Thanks Seth for keeping us up with current developments. QOD: I tried several different clubs in my area for a couple of months. My problem was scheduling and everybody does their own thing rather than form pace groups to be the problem.

QD: Running clubs are really popular here in Jacksonville FL. We have quite a few, and I am a member of PRS Running Club. I feel that having the organized long runs, track workouts, and social events has made me a much stronger runner. I recently ran my first sub 3 hour marathon, and I don't think I would have been able to get to that point without having my teammates to train with.

QD: After College I ran for Shore AC who are centered around Monmouth County NJ and ran for them for a number of years. I then took a job in NY and relocated and ran for Westchester RR. They had workouts on Wed Evening that were at White Plains HS which was just across the street from where I worked. They had a large group of Sub-Elite runners with a couple of Elites and we had many good but tough workouts. When they started charging for the workouts $220 for the season, I left. That was too much money at the time (at least 20 - 25 years ago) and the workout were not even individualized. I then joined Taconic RR where I have been ever since and we have a good 60's team for running NYRR Club races.

QD: I am part of my local running club (Washington running club) and my local Rugby club (Washington rugby football club) Two very different clubs and sports, with very similar teamwork and high work ethic values. It’s great to be part of a team working towards the same (or similar) goals and gives you great skills in life! Keep up the good work as always, Seth!

Thanks James!! With 34mm in the forefoot I think that’s the second highest forefoot stack of any race legal shoe behind the Alphafly.

QD: I joined my first running club 30 years ago and could not imagine running without one. Here in the UK running clubs are pretty much everywhere and many come under the auspices of UKA. As a result, the majority tend to be well run with structured training opportunities plus all the benefits that come from running with a group. I relocated twice so have belonged to three different clubs and consider them all to have contributed in some way to my love of the sport.

QD: I am part of HVRunners club, a new club here in Denmark. We train together with the coach once every week, and run individually the other runs. The club is a very strong reason I continue to run, with the social contact of the weekly training and the training plans we get every 3 weeks. The variations and the slow progress in the plans ensures that I do not push myself into injuries.

The outsole is actually made of hardened EVA (not rubber), so I do think the longevity would be negatively impacted by that.

Yeah I believe BiTR stated they noticed good amount of wear so prob would be used just for race day…the Vanish Tempo without the plate is the training partner but it’s looks the same/similar and has rubber on the outsole. Prob could use that for racing also🤔

Mind that if you don't have a wide foot, such was my case, the foot will move more in the upper. This really impacts the uppers durability. My Olympus 4 lasted 300 km before the upper broke down.

There are a few running groups/clubs here in the Seattle area. My favorite is the PNW Ladies group which has become so large that we now have sub groups. The group runs it own race series, mileage challenges, and other fun activities. Best of all, we can organize group runs and relay teams through the group. I have met some wonderful running friends through the group as well.

I thought on these the outsole is a rubberized foam instead of rubber? I thought that would cut down on the durability

I don't really participate in any organized running groups, but I do kinda have some unofficial rivalries with a few dudes on strava for a few segments (KOM's, top 10's, Local Legends). I'm solo dolo 99% of the time, but checking those certain segments for new times or new LL's is definitely good motivation for me.

Suprised by durability that you say it'll get. When I was watching reviews for the shoe coming out people were disappointed by Altra saying it's going to be around the 200 mile marker even the local running store near me was saying the 200 number too probably because Altra told them to say that. Would be curious to see if anyone has pushed it past 200 and how they look. Not sure if its worth mentioning but I'll put it out there as maybe it'll be useful but I run in the Torin 5 which people seem to have a love hate relationship with starting with the tounge and durability/qc. I was reading reviews of the shoe falling apart after a couple miles glue not keeping the outsole on etc. As well as people saying "did anyone even try these on the tounge is terrible". I agree with the tounge statement I did have to buy more mid heigh socks and didn't have to deal with the terrible tounge. The durability has been better than expected I'm around 250+ miles on it currently a mix of road and track and I'm a forefoot striker so just the front is really worn out and some of the outsole is coming off so might have to hit it with gorilla glue or something.

I have the Torin 5.0 and currently have over 800 miles on with no real sign of wear. They still feel pretty good too, not too broken down. I guess it depends on the runner, height, weight, stride etc

Has any other shoe beat the Altra for forefoot stack height? Alphafly is at 32mm and not sure that any have been much higher. Don't consider this is lower when you are coming heel height versus forefoot height. Consistent comparison is key!! I think the Metaspeed SKY might be the only shoe with the same forefoot stack.

Quite a surprise from Altra! Not sure what to think. High stack, plate, and fore/aft rockers don’t really align with a natural run experience. I suppose they needed one in their lineup.

Carbon plates require a solid heel lock, otherwise you lose the benefits from the toe off, right? So, if that isn't there, you may as well save your money, buy a non-plated shoe.

have been a fan of Agra for some time, but their shift to multiple spread widths is disappointing, as this shoe, the new “flagship” is the narrowest fit. I sent it back. No reason they couldn’t make it at least the middle fit. Every major biomechanics expert argues for ability of foot to work, not be tightly bound. Who knew New Balance would provide a better fit?!….

  • @jimjamthebananaman1

5:37 doesn’t a slope in your shoe help you to get on your heels instead of on your shoes? I mean: it adds more bulk to your heels, so it promotes a heelstrike and not a forefootstrike...

I love Altra, but man was I disappointed in this shoe… the half carbon plate doesn’t work anything like other super carbon shoes… then that sole wears so quick. In really hoping this version 2 that’s full carbon and rubber sole does better as for now Altra are moving to just training day shoes

I think Mimi will disagree with me. I post this on the shoe everyone threw while I don’t understand why ultra would take but I think it’s their greatest shoe ever they made the vanish - R. Remove this you and use the same name for this another Halle Halle cushions carpet shoe to me makes no sense. They’ve also raise the stack height and all their shoes. They every move the only other slightly lower stack through the ad, which was the Escalante racer and now I heard they’re adding a drop their shoes , so they’re no different my opinion

Using zero drop shoes might help. I’d recommend using them for walking around first. Then start for running, maybe like 4-6 mins a run and slowly increase as your foot gets stronger!

  • @jefreywith1f924

    @jefreywith1f924

    2 жыл бұрын

I don't think the 0 drop is the problem but to be fair that will have to do more with your biomechanics and comfortbility than anything else. The pain associated with plantar fasciitis is a result more from the impact load on the heel. This shoes doesn't have a rigid heel counter where you need the most support.

Hi, Zero drops will demand more from your plantars. You need to condition your foot for it i.e. proper stretches before and after your runs. Once you are set, your plantars will thank you, PF might just go forever all together. All the best.
