Alter Roles!

Somehow, I forgot to talk about fragments TWICE, even during the second recording session to talk about things I forgot.
I think I might be making a separate video about them anyways, so once that happens, here it will be:

    Really great and informative video! But I have a small question: is the host always an ANP and an introject always an EP? I'm the host of our system and I'm a fictive, so does that mean I've deviated and aren't strictly an introject anymore, or is that possible? We have a relatively small system of 8, if that helps. Thanks again for the great video!

  • @TheRingsSystem

    @TheRingsSystem

    5 жыл бұрын

    Step 1 is that I honestly probably wouldn't worry about it too much, haha. ANP/EP designation is quite formal and specifically refers to structural dissociation models. Quick information blast: -The role of host is a very fluid one, and can be held by both EPs and ANP's (though as I mention, it's usually ANPs due to the fact that ANP's are set up to deal with daily life). -Because Fictive/Factive is more of an alter type than role [in that it's less fluid], they're usually EP's - but, bc DID can have multiple ANP's, it's also possible that fictives can develop as ANP's because the brain recognizes that character as someone who would be able to get through similar trauma by dealing with daily life, and thus becomes an intoject. -Introjects can gravitate away from the person they intojected from, but I wouldn't intrinsically tie this in with role change. (one of our alters started as a fictive, but no longer identifies as one - and hasn't changed roles). I'm obviously not in your head, so I can't tell you what's going on! Therapists are the best at that. But it's totally possibly for you to hold both roles as an introject and a host. Your ANP/EP designation will come from thinking about why you first split, and the situations around that [as an alter, did you split to hold/process/in reaction to trauma, or to live/deal with daily life without the impacts of what happened?]. Good luck on your journey! 💜

    We just found out about an alter that is a war veteran. She clearly struggles with ptsd and has flashbacks to the war she fought in. She has pledged herself to protect a girl she saved on the field and calls her her "sister." She is a very interesting and unique part of our system that we just learned about. She doesn't quite fit any of the boxes and she is still coming to terms with being a part of a system but we love and care for her already.

She also vividly remembers her dead so that’s...always nice. She talked about it with someone but I know that it was very...harsh.

    I'm a bit late, but we have an alter that's very similar. He has pseudomemories/trauma of WWII and used to be a sort of "locked" alter (or hidden away from the rest of the system at first), found him a few years ago. He also doesn't fit into any specific role, he's still trying to wrap the thought of being in a system around his head. We think the memories might be a very abstract interpretation of some of our trauma, but we're not quite sure. He's still as valid as anyone else :)

    Yes, that's a pretty normal trauma response. I can't give in-depth advice, bc I'm not a therapist, but the best rule of thumb is give him love. i've been wondering if i have osdd-1b for months now, and this video made me feel a bit better. the only alter i'm 100% sure of existing is a fictional introject of my all time favorite character / comfort character. he definitely seems to serve as an ep and has developed more of his own identity over time, but still seems to identify as an introject due to that being his source. he's 19 (despite the character in canon being 20, and the body being 17) which i find interesting. i still have a lot of doubts about all this, but it was nice to feel a little bit more valid and a little bit less like i'm just faking everything.

    Well I either am not a system (I'm in the research phase here) or my brain is dumb because from what I know I've got: - me, who's out 9999% of the time dispite being made entirely out of anxiety - A caretaker who rarely comes out and can also be really dogmatic. - An EP trauma holder - A persecutor - A dormant protector who did absolutely 0 protecting (the last time he came out was on holiday and he literally just came out because I was wearing his coat.) No littles (though I age regress) no gatekeeper, no ANPs that we know of. I'm very new so perhaps I don't know all of them but. I keep going round in circles, like I spent a whole year not thinking about systems/ my weird brain, but lo! They keep coming back! Idk perhaps it's something else.

    Is it possible for alter types to be all different ages? For example, could a protector be a little, or a persecutor be a middle? Or do some alters always just default to the body's age or even adult alters?

  • @TheRingsSystem

    @TheRingsSystem

    Alter types can be all sorts of ages! Some types generally gravitate towards certain ages, such as protectors/caretakers generally being older due to the brain seeing older individuals as being able to protect/care for the system. But there's not hard and fast rule here :)

He protects us, both mentally and physically, is fronting often - whenever we talk to friends (his trauma is associated with betrayal, so he protects from bad people and friends. He can see through people very well. We really appreciate him, and he does a lot to help us. - Host- Arya/Phoenix

    As current host looking back to when we were more stable, we decided on roles for each other, rather than it being a formal system. We figured that Butch's personality, for example, would fit very well with being a protector, and so she decided to accept that role. Mamabear felt very calm and relaxing, and had a calming effect on anybody in the front, so she decided to take on the role of caretaker. It was less a formal designation based on characteristics and more a job that you chose. The only exception to this was host, which was just a label for whoever tended to front more than 30-40% of the time.

    I may be a system and I've been showing signs since before I knew about dissociative disorders. I have alters but I just call them alter egos out of anxiety that I may some how accidentally be faking. I recall at some points during childhood entire moments would be erased. One second I'm inside having a conversation with my brother and next second I'm in the car confused as hell because he's telling my mom we had an argument and I was being really rude. There's several moments similar where I've hit people or stood up and shouted and I have absolutely no recollection. There was once I was in the middle of an extremely triggering situation. (Two people had just fought on the bus and one of the guys had left but the one that was still there was punching the bus and yelling super fucking loudly) The only thought in my mind was "Shut yo bitch ass mouth up", "Shut the fuck up", and "No no no" And all of a sudden my vision blanks and I feel myself stand up. I hear the words "SHUT YOUR FUCKING BITCH ASS MOUTH UP!" escape my lips in a really raspy yell and I hear myself yelling at him for making my sister cry. I was clenching my fists and shaking my friend had to get between us and I didn't know what to do cause the guy was threatening to fight me so I just quietly sat back down. I think I shed one tear and my only focus was keeping my sister safe. I felt different like as if I was a different flavor on my own tongue almost the entire event.

    What to do if the person doesn’t acknowledge what they’re dealing with and doesn’t want help?

  • @TheRingsSystem

    @TheRingsSystem

    4 жыл бұрын

    If you're internal and one alter isn't acknowledging: Try your best to be patient and understanding. The host is probably really scared of the rest of the system and in denial, and doesn't know what to do so is trying to forget about it. Be persistent and caring, and know that it's not about you guys - it's something the host is working through for themself. If you can, I'd leave some resources open on computers/phones for them :) If you are an external (bodily separate) person, I honestly might stay out of it a bit more. At the end of the day, you're not a therapist and can't diagnose someone - only gently support them and suggest they see a therapist. Talk openly and honestly about mental health around them, and assure them that if they sought help it wouldn't be a sign of weakness.

But when I feel like someone else takes over I'm on the passenger seat and their steering, I feel like I have a say on what to do but not one what I am doing, sometimes I can take control but I have to ask. I'm not even sure but the protector is Jay, they shut down my body when either I'm in trouble or when there's conflict going on around me. There's another one but idk there name, it's like there a little kid just running around and always wanting to play there very cooperative with me when I need to handle certain things but sometimes when I say no they throw a fit which leads me to cry for a bit and just stay in my bed. They won't tell their name either it's like a game..

I'm pretty sure I'm a system since the symptoms and experiences from other sytems line up with how I have felt, but I haven't gotten to the point where my alters communicate with me clearly and I can notice front switches/when someone's co-fronting. great video and lots of good information :) where do you have the information that interjects is only EPs?

  • @TheRingsSystem

    @TheRingsSystem

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hello! There's no 100% evidence that introjects are only EP's, but they tend to heavily gravitate towards being EPs. This is due to why introjects form - the brain recognizes a character/person that could help them live through abuse/would protect them/would be a better mom/relates to specifically because of the abuse they're going through, ect, and thus an introject forms. All these processes directly stem from abuse, protection from/care during abuse, and reactions to abuse, and thus are classified as EPs. As I stated in another comment, "Because [introjects] are more of an alter type than role [in that it's less fluid], they're usually EP's - but, bc DID can have multiple ANP's, it's also possible that introjects can develop as ANP's because the brain recognizes that character as someone who would be able to get through similar trauma by dealing with daily life, and thus becomes an intoject." I'm currently using sources such as did-research.org/ and traumadissociation.com , as well as scattered knowledge I've picked up through the years of research but don't remember where it come from XD Hope that helps! -Silver

    definitely. Essentially DID is separations of self, due to trauma making it hard for them to integrate (to block out trauma). Before the ages of 7-9, this is how a child brain is, DID is where these EPs and different parts (formed in early childhood) don't fuse into one identity. Where as not having DID, all of these alters and such, are fused as one, so 100% your self can take on many roles within the one identity :) And people with C-PTSD (but no DID/OSDD) can have fragments (EPs) that are triggered by certain memories of trauma (PTSD is too, primary structural dissociation). I have C-PTSD (and potentially OSDD) but find that viewing my fragments/EPs that are triggered by trauma memory subconsciously, as individuals in a system, helps me have compassion for these parts of myself (that as an older child I grew to feel shame for.. but am now learning to validate them and understand them, and therefore try to help them process trauma so they can integrate). We all have an inner voice, that can be encouraging or negative or persecutory.. for DID this is more separated as a separate alter, where as more integrated people can still have these facets within their identity, I feel. I think talk to your persecutory self inwardly, and tell them the way they're talking to you sometimes isn't fair and you understand they want to help (persecutors are misguided protectors).

  • @fbxn

    @fbxn

    Жыл бұрын

    Are they a little/ a middle? I think our littles are like that emotionally. Happy, angry, or desperate(meltdown). I have been frustrated by them fronting and provoking all this drama, until I found out about did. Now I am slowly learning to love and protect them (I am a teen persecutor), consider that as normal for the emotional development of a little, and recognize that my emotional development is also immature (happy/angry, no meltdowns). The body is 40 years old, we do have a protector of that age, she is kind but we surely need her fronting more those days. She says she gives me time to front and to process trauma, but it s hard for me to cook, clean the house, take care of our dog etc and process trauma at the same time. I am not that efficient in adult responsibilities and I am also overwhelmed by all the did and realizing being an alter stuff. This started as a response to a yt comment, me not knowing who I am, and developped into becoming practically a note to the rest of the system that a teen alter needs their help and support. So I think I can leave it here, maybe new systems could relate🙊 Good luck to you all💓

    Questioning OSDD-1b system here- can't get diagnosed because we got trust issues and even if we hadn't our main protector wouldn't let us. We also are most likely endogenic or weak af since we haven't gone through trauma (only a short shtty period of our life + abt a year or so of depression), we are... 9 alters? I think we're 9- and got acknowledged pretty recently. At first the person that was here splitted into 2 (a little and me, im the "mature" part and the little is the immature part), then alters started appearing pretty fast. (Change of alter writing cuz we are 2 fronting atm, the only 2 interested in learning abt this.) Caretaker here, and we appeared cuz the "mature" host wouldn't stop asking for stuff, like a caretaker (me) or an alien (which got to be a persecutor too, here you got the karma). We consider the two alters that splitted (little and the other) are the hosts since we don't really know which arrived first- and I am about 14 "physically" in the headspace but im still more mature than that (idek my exact mental age). Most of us aren't human either, the only human ones are the main protector and the other caretaker (emotional caretaker, and she takes care of people outside the system too), the rest of us are demons ("mature" host, secondary protector w/ anger issues and me), a... cat? (little host), an alien, a shadow and a- uh- water creature little(?). This is a real mess 😅 We don't have introjects (yet) cuz we find them no use in this system (they might be useful for other systems tho). Anyways we are rambling, thanks for the videos even though they were made a bunch of years ago 👋 (We were cofronting while writing this so thats why its kinda messy- hehe sry 😅)

    I mean, you can and we will answer, because we can't stop you from writing and if we can't stop you we're gonna at least try to help improve your writing. However, we highly encourage LOTS AND LOTS of research before you try to start writing a character with DID, if you even attempt it - because if you don't have DID yourself, it's very hard to write accurately and safely. This is a very complex and sensitive issue, and we are a community that faces massive stigma and violence, so you need to make sure you're doing this correctly and not adding to that stigma. So, you can ask us questions, but if through the questions it's clear you don't understand what DID is on a basic level, we're going to send you resources or encourage you to write a character without DID. (and let me be clear: my channel or other DID channels are not good enough when it comes to doing reading and research about DID) (and sorry if this comes off harshly, we've had a lot of bad experiences with people writing DID characters and don't want to repeat them.)

    In our system there isnt someone that is fronting the most at this moment because the host isnt mentally stable enough. Right now he cant do anything done (a new trauma happened recently while he was fronting) and now we are doing it like this: a few weeks/days the main fronter will be someone and then we change. The thing is that i dont think that Ren (our current host) was always the host. I have theory: In the past, before the trauma that started it all i remember that our first host was super sweet, childish and was helping everyone. That continues till this year in January. She has noticed that she was special and stuff but then something happened and Ren started to front out of nowhere and our first host didnt even realised it. Ren started to use the body more and more and more. But here is a thing, we have a little in our system named Candy and she says that she is 8. She fits perfectly in how i remember our first host to be before february. Is this even possible? Ty for listening
