I know many will say, and have already said, that this is too long or that this game isn't my style. To be honest I don't want to tie myself down to one type of thing, some people get very good at being one type of youtuber and I could probably do that too but I don't want to. I want to expand my abilities of commentary and show that I'm not a yelling moron who does highly edited stuff all the time, that if given the chance I can hold your interest for an hour as well as 12 minutes. I also want variety in games to play and for the channel because just playing the Escapists or Sims 4 or whatever all day everyday like many people want would kill my enthusiasm for recording, it would stifle my creativity and would sap all that energy you guys seem to love so much. Please be open minded about this stuff. I get if you don't wanna watch it and if you ignore it that's fine, but please don't litter the comments with "this doesn't suit you" or "please play something else" because it won't change anything. I appreciate feedback but I don't always do it

When I witnessed Charlotte's death, I was instantly overwhelmed with a multitude of emotions... sadness, anger, horror, but most importantly the sense of helplessness. My mind immediately thought, "Charlotte had always been so close within the player's reach, yet we were never able to meet and save her until it was too late." This truly reminds me of the feeling of something or someone being seemingly so close to us, yet we are so powerless to intervene and help them that they are in reality so far away and unreachable from us, and that is one of the worst feelings for one to ever experience :(

What's actually the most tragic about his character is that even though he went through all that suffering to save his daughters yet they weren't even able to be saved in the first place, he didn't blame the main character of the story for his struggles and he still kept smiling as he died, he had all the excuses and reasons to blame the player for his suffering but he didn't and he even parted from the story with a final gift... fuck, Wertpool, I only know this one game from you, and I know you've long passed away, but thank you for such a unique narrative and such an amazing story...

@@an18yearoldmongolianguy I think the point is that the happy buddy wasn’t smiling in his death. He was never jolly or smiling. He was most likely severely depressed because, yknow, end of the world and his daughters are being held hostage. The sad part is that he tries so hard to keep his daughters alive, which included begging the protagonist to be happy. But when Doctor Money let them die anyway, he really had no reason to exist at all anymore, and that’s when he shows his actual feelings. The happy buddy is in a terrible situation, but he’s hopeful for the protagonist because he knows he is not infected. I don’t think the happy buddy had any reason to blame the protagonist for his problems, he has only Doctor Money to blame. But he obeys because the meaning of his life rides on it.

I just realized, with a lot of indie horror games nowadays using PS1 style graphics to enchance the horror vibe, this game basically pioneered that almost a decade ago

i started crying hard when i found out the creator of this game actually committed suicide, and it made me realize that this was probably how he felt and thats why it is so heartbreaking and emotional... Rest in peace Robert Brock

Wertpol is dead. They committed suicide some time in June of 2018. They were working on a redux of Presentable Liberty because they felt obligated, but their Kickstarter failed (twice?) and they were faced with some personal problems. Just wanted to let everyone know that a sequel won't be coming. I really liked Menagerie and the way it presented itself, and it's a shame we won't be able to see more of it. Rest in Peace.

LOL, yeah. I think the story is a mental manifestation of what is going on in a person's mind, honestly. Considering what happened to the game's creator, seems true. The whole game has that slightly surreal, dream-like atmosphere. If you accept the story as is, it really doesn't make much sense.

Fun Fact: Emergency Lights are often red because Red Light doesn't compromise your dark vision the way white lights do. So if you have to go from the lit area to a dark area your eyes will adjust quicker.

It's quite odd, that when one is lonely, one will make company of anything one is presented with. Like in portal, the companion cube is just a cube with hearts, yet many fell in love with it and were sad to let it go. Same goes for this game: though Jack is at first disgusted by the bug, his loneliness makes him treasure it's presence, as is shown when Jerry stops moving. Jack is devastated at the loss of his only visible friend. Quite odd, huh?

I feel as though the fact that your not in a real prison just adds a whole new layer to the game much like depression. This game hits so different all these years later. 6 years later and this still brongs back so many emotions. Its kind of funny seeing how this aged with there actually being a virus and us actually needing to isolate ourselves but also moments like Sean explaining what the oculus rift is.

honestly, this game is an important masterpeice, way more important than what most people think. just think about happy buddy, trying everything, selling his organs, his house, his food, everything just to keep you happy to save his daughters, but in the end his actions were futile, so he had to go down the rabbit hole, and end his life. think about Charlotte, who were right next to you the entire game, but thinking shes alone, and kills herself. we all should, or have felt these feelings before. and the fact that the creator killed himself two, adds to the importance. he might have made this game as a cry for help, or a representation of his mental state, but whatever he felt, we felt.

Well I very sadly got one of those notes (suicide note) from my best friend who committed suicide and gave me a suicide note on Christmas Day with a goodbye and a thank you for all the things I helped him through. With that note came a picture of my friend and I cuddled up together under a blanket (might I add, it’s really cute) watching movies and eating snacks with on the back of the picture written with his signature under it: “I’m sorry I never told you, but I’ve always loved you. I never had the courage to tell you because I didn’t know what you would think of me, and didn’t want to lose our friendship. Please forgive me for all the bad things I’ve done. Love- Brandon.” That was my Christmas gift of 2021. The saddest part is I loved him too but I never told him for the exact same reason he didn’t say anything and I never told him I was gay either for the same reason.

One of the best games of this era. Sad it never took off like fnaf or Undertale did. It’s getting a remake soon in memoriam of its creator who passed away. There’s going to be new endings, new content, new lore, and some new characters while still being the same story as the developer envisioned it to be.

Nobody Jack doesn't bother me at all I feel nothing from this game even when the whole died, Charlotte killed herself, happy buddy lost hope and lied about even being your friend in the beginning n how he died donating his organs if anything it brought me joy to have seen it .

In the end, the one thing this game shows is actually how easy it is to control someone's mind. If you were placed in that prison cell and everything was fake, someone completely made up and sent those letters to you and in the end you would wind up feeling so strongly about people that don't even exist. What if the person who made it all up had someone they wanted dead? They would just put their name everywhere we see Dr. Money's name and I'm pretty sure a lot of people would end up at least inflicting some kind of serious pain if they ever saw that person, only because they had been led to believe something that didn't exist. Because in the end bone of it was real. It was just a game. And yet those emotions it creates within every player/viewer are very real. And it's kind of scary, if you think about it, how easy it truly is to manipulate the mind. To make it feel something so real, from something so fake.

This game is proof that you don't need fancy graphics or the best machanics, all you need is a good story

I remember when I first watched this video when I was like 11, it has stuck itself into my mind and keeps coming up in my head six years later. Just one of my favorite videos bc of the nostalgia(yes ik it is dark, but I did really realize that when I was 11, I just enjoyed Jack's energy lol)

Me too. I remember the first time I watched this and it has always been one of my favourite play throughs on KZread. I too, do believe that it is nostalgia that makes me miss the older times, when things were easier, but I also love the calm, relaxing feel that this video weirdly has, however dark and eerie it is

It's kind of insane how you can have a deep connection with someone you've never even seen for a whole hour.

I love how sometimes at the end he always has kinda a dad chat with his audience like a great dad

as a person who has tried many time to commit suicide, it isn't worth it, yes you think it will be but its not its very traumatising and ruins so many families to the loss of you it leaves a depressive quietness and its awful, iv lost many to suicide and its like a gap that will never be filled again cuz you're rly important to so many and you will eventually get through this to anyone who is struggling mentally rn its good to reach out don't keep going alone, help is one of the most hardest things u can ask for but its better u ask for help instead of ending your life. there was many times I have tried and currently am thinking of it again it isn't worth it people it stresses so many to know that you want to end ur life instead of reaching out but anyone who reads this I'm so proud of you and you will get through this it will be a huge struggle, as i say these thoughts are like storms but the storm eventually leaves so these thoughts will to, you got this! so many people need and love you this is being written by a 14 year old who has tried many times its not worth it trust me

I remember watching this let's play a long time ago and it changed my life for the better. Made me appreciate life more and help others. I just found out the developer of this game committed suicide and I'm heartbroken. The Last sentence of this game in Charlotte's letter hit me so hard because that was the developer talking I feel. He had a talent for making great story telling games about real life issues! May he rest in paradise. ❤️🕊️ Remember everyone you're not alone. There is help out there and people who care and are willing to listen. Don't ever give up.

Seeing this in 2023 and looking back in the past few years really makes me think. Jack said a lot of things that somewhat came true and the fact that this game had predicted so many things like a huge virus breaking out snd killing millions of people and the big companies that tried to make cures that failed. It just makes me so much more thankful that I and many other people made it through the pandemic and are making it through as life goes on. If you ever feel like taking your life just think about everything you have and everything you can do to get help. Thats the end of my long rant. Bless you all.

Near the end of the video, jack says that the video would probably get a lot of dislikes and there isn't a single one that is coming up on my computer. That was one of the most emotional games I have ever watched and it is such a powerful story that has made me think very hard about my life and look at all the amazing things that I have. Friends that care about me, a family that will take care of me, and a community that will lift me up when I fall down. I want to thank jack so much for playing this game and reminding me of what a great, amazing, and blessed life I have. Even though I might go through dark times, I will always have someone to help me along the way.

This is so nostalgic.. when this vid was uploaded I watched it within the hour and I was in middle school. All I cared about was working out and playing games. Now I’m going into EMT school at 20 years old and I’m thinking about starting a family, getting a dog, how I’m going to manage my money, how my career will turn out, all of this adult shit.. Just came back after 6 years to rewatch this masterpiece

I was a young teen when I first watched this, and it resonated me a lot bc I dealt w/ then unknown mental health problems at that time. Now that I’m an adult, it still resonates but a little more maturely and openly this time. I still suffer with my mental health, I think we as a world are going through a big mental health crisis. The only thing I think most important, especially now, is to be kind. Always be kind. Through death and tragedy, be there for you when nobody else can. And you, whoever reads, Keep moving forward. I don't always cry. It took 1 hour for me to feel attached to people, I was happy to see Jerry I was upset he may have died I felt joy when Sal was going to break the generator so you could escape to Charlotte I felt horrible seeing Charlotte's final goodbyes i was crying when the final letter was read my happiness resurfaced when we found Jerry alive One hour, and my life was changed my heart broken and healed. Thank you for this wonderful video
