M LT All those games and micro-transactions are scams. Some are merely less slimy and underhanded than others, but they all rely on gamer addiction and impatience to compel them to put a lot of cash into the game just so they can see the rest of the content by making any "free" route, if there is one, as unappealing, tedious, and impossible as they can.

I only hate ads that you can't skip. Like I don't give a crap about the game so I hated not being able to skip it. In general the only ads I sometimes like to watch on KZread are movie trailers. If I don't know about a game then it's almost guaranteed I will have no interest in it.

I think that, at least for me, the humor is derived from trying to imagine a group of game writers sitting around and coming around to decide that that line was the coolest option they had going for them. ...and also probably from the fact that unlike crap like "All your bases are belong to us," I'm not reminded of that line particularly often, so it always seems _freshly_ stupid whenever I hear it.

One of the best things about the original Alone in the Dark trilogy is, that it manages a thick and suspenseful horror atmosphere without any gore. PS not sure if it's because I've grown up with this game, but your jokes are hilarious in this one. The hiding in the closet was on point.

I think that the people bitching about people bitching about the ad did so more recently, and were more popular, due to their welcome meta-commentary on a tired subject. So they're what you're seeing now. There are probably just about as many people who bitched about the ad, but you'd have to load more comments to see them.

I don't think ProJared disapproved of the concept, it's more the fact that the game had pretty much forced gambling with real money and it was shallow as hell for a final fantasy game and was basically a cash grab. There are plenty of semi fun clicker games out there and the fact that he ascended in this one means that he actually did play it enough to know what it is. It's still kind of annoying to see that ad though.

Some of his film reviews were awesome as well, especially The Reb Brown and Highlander ones. But his stuff started to get really bitter and negative. I know he had personal problems, but it wasn't fun seeing that manifest on camera

DiamondDead And of course he plays other games. Not every game he plays or shows he watches is something he likes. He streams to keep up with the fans during his monthly absence, and videos are a lot harder to make than you realize. It can take up to working 3 hours for a whole week to release just an okay video, and putting in effort means putting in more hours. Yes, there is not benefits of health insurance or fixed incomes, but there's clearly more to making videos than just "gotta find a job I can do" unless you make videos solely for cash. Plus, a simple 8 hour job can take out a lot more time from making videos than you think. Some people don't release for months because of job issues, school, or even working in the military. There's nothing wrong with sponsors so long as you do it in the right way (short 1 minute advertisement), but you're just seeing the bad side of it. I would be pissed if Jared went full sellout, but I don't agree on fully individual, no advertisement system as I never was a man who thought leaning towards one side or the other too much is a good idea.

Jeeeeeeeeesus, people got so butthurt over the ad, it's not even funny. I mean, guys, I know that 61 second of your time is priceless, you could've cured canser in that time, espesially when watchign KZread videos, and I know that you get shot in the leg every time you skip further in the video, so you can't avoid parts of the video you don't like, and as far as not giving any ad revenue adblock doesn't cut it anymore, so... I have a very special method to avoid all ads for the rest of your life! It's a pretty simple life-hack, really, it's called nailblock. You take two nails, put them on the table, so that they line up with your eyes, and then you headbutt that shit! Ta-da! You don't have to gaze at any ad ever agin in your life!

Original "Alone in the Dark" is one of my most favorite games ever. It is really atmospheric and charming.

I find it sad that the frog at 2:23 was more scary than anything else in the game.

I think that dumb "AAH" face the frog has is super funny and kinda cute actually. Pictures of animals with their mouths wide open are so funny to me for some reason

You know, I kind of almost feel like this series could've had potential for a revitalization of sorts. Though, unlike the sort of reboot...-ish game for Xbox and Ps3, given the whole concepts of the original and this whole remake scene with games like the recent RE2 remake, there could be a chance for Alone in the Dark to return for modern gaming in the future (assuming some rights-holding nonsense isn't going on).

I think it was a mistake to leave the original games timeline. I like the idea of Edward being a 1920s detective because it gives the series flavor in comparison to modern survival horrors

Your ad made me smile. And also reminded me of the fun adverts before watching some of my favorite VHS tapes, back in the day.

Honestly, I don't give a shit about the ad but I do find it hilarious that advertisers think that this would make me want to play their game, at all and not make me just resent them forever. Shit like this makes me guarantee that I will never, ever play your game. So I gotta thank ProJared for that. In actuality, he's looking out for you.

Everything attributed to this game started in Sweet Home. This game only introduced fixed camera angles and pre-rendered backgrounds. Also, Edward is there for a piano, not the suicide.

This was the first video game I ever played. Yeah... my parents didn't make the best parental decisions.

Unless the sponsor pays significantly more to put the ad at the beginning of the video or pays by retention time at the ad, I'd suggest putting it at the end. This results in less bitching about the ad in the comments.

Alone in the Dark faithful reimagining announced!!! I came back here the moment it got announced!

This game is one of the reason I got into PC gaming. The soundtrack and sound effects were amazing back then.

Why are so many people complaining about the advertisements?It doesn't take out any time from the video and it's pretty informative.

No problem with you advertising Jared but as a subscriber, I would prefer to see you only endorse things you sincerely like & would genuinely suggest to others. Who knows, maybe you really do like that smartphone game....but I doubt it. Stephen O'Brien The problem with that is how sponsorships work. The sponsor contacts the medium, not the other way around. This means that ProJared can't just say "Hey, Squeenix, can you pay me to do a Chrono Trigger ad for you? Yeah? Cool!" That's just not how that works. When selecting an advertisement, you can only get paid for what companies have offered you to advertise. With ProJared's more minor popularity on KZread, I have a feeling this was one of the only sponsors available.

Dude this game scared the s**t out of my little sister and I all the way back in 92-93. So scary. I remember having a blast playing this game.

Tim Wielgot I'm just saying that because KZreadrs are sponsored by Lootcrate ALL THE DAMN TIME EVERY OTHER VIDEO, and usually they talk about how *great* the Lootcrates are when they're opening them in their 2 minute long paid pandering, when they're usually subjectively filled with worthless *shit* in the eyes of most people. As a result, its more bearable to see a sponsor that's not so over used on the internet...

GameGrumps is often sponsored by Lootcrate, and they make great ads. I don't think you can make that great of an ad about some mobile game, so I would find it sadder if the same ad was about Lootcrate, because there isn't much potential you can out into an ad about a game where you mindlessly tap the screen.

Such gentleman having to awkwardly jump platforms wearing elegant clothes and bow tie to fight the gatekeeper of hell... I miss the 90's

With Adpocalypse I can understand the ad in the vid. Plus it won't kill you to skip it manually if you absolutely must. If youtube won't give us ads then we can just make our own.

Considering that this game is 26 years old, these computer graphics were pretty advanced. The pre-rendered backgrounds still look pretty good.

Buttobi fine 6 and 9 maybe 12 at best but their are people who ripped 10,7,8 apart but earthbound is the list or mother 3

I came to watch this AFTER I watched Jared's playthrough on the other channel - I giggled at several points remembering how much trouble some of the monsters and puzzles gave him! Glad you're back, Jared!

I remember thinking this was the pinnacle of video game graphics/gaming when it came out. Me and my 386 PC with a 3.5 disk drive (which was cutting edge compared to 5.25" disks).

Fantastic video as always, Jared! The only thing I want to say is that while Alone in the Dark is definitely a grandaddy of survival horror, Sweet Home for the NES should probably take the title of "game that inspired the survival horror series."

My ancient computer only had the demo of this game which took place in the attic and even though I was just a kid, it really did scare me a lot too! Looking back, it was a fun atmospheric romp through a Lovecraftian circumstance. Thanks for uploading!

It wasn't just released on the PC it was also on the 3DO because I owned that version. It truly did spawn the survival horror genre and I was in 1st grade around the time this game was released.

the pirate in the game you fight is the physical ghoul form of the game's villain Ezechiel Pregzt. you fight his spirit at the end of which was infused with a tree
