Almost attacked in Egerton Court, Barrow Island - a hellish ghetto full of RATS!

RAT TOWN Rats live better than us in hellish ‘ghetto’ estate riddled with sewage and fungus - slum landlords have left it to rot.
Addicts overdosing on a regular basis in this rundown council estate.

The government cannot sort these poor northern areas out and restore towns like Barrow back to their former glory but can afford to put 100's of thousands of illegal migrants in hotels and countless other bonuses at a huge cost (last i heard it was 7 million a day) at the tax payers expense, its an absolute disgrace! I'm from Grimsby, a once proud world famous fishing town and now its pretty much the same as Barrow.

Hi billy. I'm a from barrow born and breed unfortunately, I was actually shocked to see u do a video down there what made u come up this way?!. Barrow was a lovely place 15-20 years ago. But has now gone to shit. The town is plagued with drug deaths and sex offenders. Egerton court has always been a rough spot that too has had a few drug deaths and suicides over the years. I remember many years ago I was struggling to find a new house and out of poor desperation arranged an interview to view one of them flats on Egerton court. I took a rain check and decided not to show up for the viewing id rather be homeless than live there luckily found somewhere else but even if u were desperate u would want to live there. It definitely does need knocking down. Apparently that's where the council house all the unsavoury characters to try and keep them all in one place. There is rougher areas than that in barrow. Ormsgill is a notoriously rough estate few people have been murdered up there over the years.

In terms of work the shipyard is growing its workforce by at least another 2,000 people (currently around 13k going to 15k) to cope with its huge order book, to say there is no work in this town is ridiculous. The closed down Debenhams in the town centre is being transformed in to a school of excellence where it will train and educate hundreds of apprentices and graduates to support BAE systems Subs. We have more than most towns going for it.

Hey Billy. I was brought up in Barrow but moved to Childwall (where my Dad was from ) when I was 14. Those flats were always a bit ropey, but I think some of the courts are worse than others. They are listed buildings and I know some of the courts have been restored and are pretty nice, but others seem to be a bit of a ‘dumping ground’ for people who are struggling unfortunately. Barrovians in general are very friendly people…… did you see Emlyn Hughes’s statue near the railway station? Great little vid mate, glad you’ve explored Barrow. Went to Barrow in 1980s to visit Egerton Court area because they looked like Glasgow tenements made of brick. Unique in England. Nobody challenged me for taking photos (still have) unlike in Birkenhead where locals seemed bemused that i would photograph the big central square which is very impressive, bit like Edinburgh.

Hi Billy, Thanks for your vid. I was really surprised to see how awful that place was!. I always assumed that Barrow would be a nice place, however I suppose there are bad parts to every place. In regards to those who challenged you, your better to just bite your lip and walk away mate!. We can't talk to people like that. We just can't get through to them. Hopefully one day they will see that there's a life out there free from addiction. So I wish them well. Anyway Billy, try to not let it get you down and ruin your day mate, it's just where there at now!. Unfortunately Billy there are some individuals that won't ever be free from that lifestyle so it's for the best that we distance ourselves from them until and unless they reach the stage where they want to change!. Anyway Billy thanks again for your vid. John. 💯🤔👍

Billy, nothing has changed since I used to work there around 25 years ago. If anything it's worse. The west coast of Cumbria has been abandoned by successive governments. The industries of mining and ship building etc were decimated in the 1980s. No transport infrastructure. Rail to whitehaven got cut off at Keswick, arguably cos the authorities didn't think it was worth the journey. To geographically isolated for meaningful investment, causing a significant outmigration of young talent. Health inequalities result in premature deaths, the figures made higher due to the suicide rates. Needs that bridge from Lancaster that's been talked about to open the area up. That'll never happen. Not worth it to the government. Very insular communities, rightly suspicious of outsiders. Money thrown at it, but ineffective because it doesn't make the necessary changes in terms of enabling investment and growing industry. The North west coastal communities, from St Anne's upwards is rotting away. Whitehaven is to me, worse than Barrow. A ghost town of decaying Georgian splendour. Like Liverpool, bank rolled by the long gone profiteers of the slave trade. And like Liverpool, the slavers fled to the home counties, or the 'colonies', leaving the town to face the wrath of Madam Karma, when she decided to pay a visit in the 1980s. Maybe you're old enough to at least recall this? 40 + years, and nowt has changed. I used to sing it driving into Barrow, but it applies all up the west coast. Soon only ghosts will be left, or those people reduced to shadows by isolation, abandonment, deprivation, and what comes with it. Keep up the good work Bill.👍 kzread.info/dash/bejne/nKWOmpZraKq5oqw.htmlsi=QQBzUVzV26tzlXoT

Theres some nice apartments believe it or not, in the centre of them flats (marine apartment). There used to be a pub on that estate that was sound. A sence of community even if you werent from there. £10 would get you 3 pints and 2 packets of crisps, still have change. Looks to have got a lot worse in past 5 years.

WTF in London these flats retaining all their original features & with ample parking would go for a fortune. All the ground floor windows are still intact and with no steel entrance doors, this indicates it is a safe neighbourhood. In London, on the rough estate, all ground floor flats are boarded up & with gangs of kids smoking weed in stairwells who would automatically attack a strange grey-haired old man filming them. What a joke these flats appear fine to me and are certainly not no-go areas for the police to patrol
