    Well this is what Zack Synder is doing for his trilogy copying the structure of the The Dark Knight trilogy, The Beginning, The Fall, and This Rise. While also adding his own twist with The Birth, The Death and The Rebirth (very Jesus like) of Superman, other DC characters like Batman and Wonder Woman, and even the world they live in. Man of Steel is the beginning of Superman, starts with a birth of Clark and ends with the birth of Superman, it is birth/opening this world to Aliens and Metahumans. BVS is the fall of Superman in the public eye and in himself, features a fallen Batman from is glory days, a fallen Wonder Woman who doesn't believe in man kind (the solo film being her The Beginning film, BVS being her Fall, JL being her Rise), begins with a death of the Wayne's and end with the death of Superman. The public/media/government not trusting/fallen Superman and Metahumans (SS could also count as that). JL (mostly guessing now) will be the Rise/Rebirth of Superman from his grave, Rebirth of Batman going back to his glory days, Wonder Woman's Rebirth into trusting humanity again, Rebirth of humanity trusting in superheroes, the Rise of the Justice League, the Rebirth of protects/gods of planet Earth (as the beginning of the film will have a flash back to the old gods like Zeus, this comes from the set reports), will start with a rebirth of Batman (which is hinted at the end of BVS) and ends with the rebirth of Superman(which will allow them to both go on to their solo films like the characters that the fans/haters/moaners want them to be). Zack Synder was brought in to do a Superman trilogy that would work like the DK trilogy that I mentioned above, so you can see where he constructed it by having the origin as The Beginning, The Death of Superman storyline being The Fall and the Return of Superman being The Rise. Then the first Avengers film came out and changed everything into building a cinematic universe. So I can see the last one of his superman trilogy ending like Dark Knight Rises where they hint at a new Batman with John Blake, but instead having 4 new Supermen come along like in the comic book storyline. Hey but now they've swapped the Supermen with the Justice League, that's not bad.

    Yes, well thought. Terrio told before that Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Justice League are sort of a trilogy. And even though we watched the birth of Superman, his fall and now we will se his rebirth, they are working on a Man of Steel sequel.

    good cinematography..shitty ass storyline and no disney didn't pay off critics.rotten tomatoes were owned by warner bros.sometimes i disagree with them like with ghostbuster and man of steel ratings but why would marvel needs to payed off critics when the fans and the crowds alike already liked their movies as what it is? movies isn't just a pile of epic cinematography,but also stories.Just to be clear,the story in BvS was poorly written and felt very rushed.Why Wonder Woman was there in the first place? why Batman 'the worlds greatest detective' doesn't even reconsider if Superman was trying to save the world until he yelled his mother's name? Lex Luthor doesn't have any reasons to hate Superman and he interprets Joker rater than Lex,and they killed Superman in the second movie while there was thousands of superman issues before his death in the comics

    this is going to pissed you off because Baron Zemo character is how you make a manipulative and cunning villains that is way more twisted than Lex luthor in BvS both characters plot their plans offscreen but unlike Lex who is so obvious that even children could predict him.Zemo developed from nobody into a cunning snake that used Winter soldier as his plot device to break the avengers to fight among each other.he's really calm and took a lot of patience to find weakness and trauma from Stark and Rogers.he made Steve decides an absolute decision to save his old sidekick from the old days,and Stark completely out of his mind by showing him how the winter soldier kill his parents.And it makes a lot of sense because in the previous movies,Stark and Rogers have already experienced a lot of trauma,and Zemo was the aftermath of Ultron's disaster that Stark and Banner's made because he was one of the survivor of sokovia who lost everything because of the hero's mistakes meanwhile lex keeps talks nonsense about god devil red capes and every reference he knew.again another symbolism that failed to delivered to the audience

    Zack knows how to deliver an iconographic storytelling. He is really capable of bringing things from comicbook pages to life. The only problem I find with his vision is his tendency to deconstruct characters and make us question their very nature. Like the way Clark softly took the rose from it's bouquet and gave it to Lois(softly as if one move from his finger can't destroy a building). To how slowly and carefully he opened the small door in the court room where he was going to be judged, not the time to be concerned about a door I might add.

    He doesn't read comics, otherwise he would have understood superman and Batman, and not make Batman kill, and made Superman optimistic and hopeful, and a beacon of hope not a building destroying emotionless person, who thinks himself as hero, Let's be real why Batman and Superman didn't like each other in bvs, Superman don't like Batman because Batman brand kill people which is normally a death sentence in prison, And Batman don't like superman because how he fought zod which destroyed metropolis, which killed many people, Both of these people are hypocrites who don't see what they did wrong

    @@rocky3850 If you hate Batffleck for killing, then you must hate every Batman except George Clooney. If you hate the destruction of the fight in Man of Steel, than you must hate every fight Superman has ever had in comics or animation. And yes, both men are being, if not hypocritical, than judgemental. And by the end of the film they both realize it; "Bruce. I was wrong; you have to listen to me." Superman before his fight against Batman. "I failed him; in life. I won't fail him in death." Batman after Superman's funeral. Furthermore, Superman has not changed. He still saves as many people as he can. It's the world that is judging him because of his power; because that is how the modern world is. Whenever a billionaire gives money to a charity, our first instinct is to assume they have an ulterior motive, not that they are doing it to be kind. Finally, this Batman is based off the Dark Knight Returns comic, which, if you had read, you would know that Batman is a psychotic hypocrite who hears voices and justifies everyone he kills. The animated film is great, but it is not accurate to the source material.

Who is making dumb decisions? My experience in discussing this movie is that most problems people seem to have with it stem from them not remembering half of the explanatory dialogue from the movie or realizing that this is part of a bigger story and that some open questions will be solved in Justice League (something everyone accepts from Marvel by now).

    abonny I made my own edit of this movie. I cut 27 minutes out of it. It flows a lot better and nothing I cut out effects the core plot whatsoever. I may hazard a guess and say that that's the problem most people had. Too many dreams, hallucinations and shameless sequel baiting. Cut that all out, get to the core of the movie and stay there, and it's not so bad. But any movie that's 174 minutes long and you can cut out 27 minutes without losing much, is NOT a masterpiece. Try cut out 27 minutes of another 3 hour long film, like a Lord of the Rings movie, or The Godfather Part II

That movie was hollow, and guess what, even though it was shorter, most of the footage that I cut out of the Ultimate Cut was footage ALREADY IN the SHORTER Theatrical Version. If that isn't proof enough of the problems in this movie I don't know what is.

    soerism yeah but did you forget the whole beginning of the movie of where metropolis gets destroyed from Superman's battle with Zod? Batman did not trust Superman due to the sheer destruction and recklessness of it all. The quick shift in emotion (especially in the heightened stress levels) during the Batman vs Superman fight is purely for plot purposes and quite unrealistic. Superman pretty much leveled a whole city and it even had PTSD effects on Bruce. Plus they had obvious philosophy differences of how crime is dealt with. Which is why Superman went after Batman in the first place.

    It's cool if you don't like the films. But understand that it was always the plan even before BvS was released in theaters by Chris Terrio that tone would change. Tone/arc is also established in MoS speech by Jor-El. "They will race behind you" - MoS "They will stumble, they will fall" - BvS "They will join you in the Sun" - Justice League

    The character motivations are there. Lex says it. To the Senator and to Superman on the rooftop. Batman also utters his motivations to Alfred on multiple occasions. It's characters studies and how these people (and the world) are effected by Superman's appearance 18 months ago. I'm a big fan of these characters too. I love and have seen a large majority of what you have listed. Still, I think Zack & the actors truly understand these characters. Again, all I can say is it's part of the DCEU gameplan. Chris Terrio openly said before BvS even premiered, that BvS was DARK in tone. He cited just like Wrath of Khan, or Empire Strikes Back, that BvS was the darkest in the series and Justice League would be lighter and optimistic again. Which fits. In this world, like every comic or tv show we read, they reinvent. In this reinvention, Man of Steel is seen as Action Comic #1. It's the alien arrival. Then it's the reaction to it in BvS. From Batman's perspective, to Wonder Woman's, to Lex's, to the government. What better way for Superman to prove that he'd die for this world than actually doing so by the end of the movie? It starts this whole conversation of Rebirth. Rebirth because Superman INSPIRED Wonder Woman to come back out of the shadows and fight again. INSPIRED Bruce to be Batman again, not the killer and vengeful vigilante (which will be addressed in Justice League as reported by many articles online). Superman INSPIRES Batman and Wonder Woman to unite and stand together as they unite the Justice League. The Justice League isn't even a THING. Metahumans are not known to the public. Only news coverage is Superman and the Bat. But Justice League serves as a coming out party and an introduction to hope, heroes, and inspiration for the world. "They will join you in the Sun." Just look at the Justice League banner, the sun is rising. The night is darkest before the DAWN (of Justice). It's all coming together and once the Justice League is united and reveals itself to the world, I'm 100% positive that the DCEU will begin to look A LOT like the characters, comics, and TV shows we know. It's Justice League Begins. It's superheroes begins. I have faith that this is where the roads are leading.

    The best part about this version of batman is that they respect him enough to let him be wrong. So many takes on the character these days have him as the infallible source of internet memes and make everyone around him stupid so he can be smart. Snyder and terrio let batman be wrong so him making the right decisions has value. They let him spend the majority of the doomsday fight just barely staying alive so that his lone contribution at the end matters.

    PART 3: BATMAN AND LEX PARALLELS V SUPERMAN BVS's Lex is most superficially different from previous incarnations e.g. Hackman and Spacey's real estate Lex and Rosenbaum's suave-boy-billionaire Lex. Eisenberg is a more technocratic interpretation of the character. However, what really makes this Lex: is his perchance for wordplay and blatant contextual malapropism. On a surface level, his reasoning for a deterrent against beings like Superman is reasonable. It also parallels Bruce’s own contingency plan though both men’s viewpoints are severely flawed and it is most obvious with Bruce. With Lex, it takes a bit more time to unravel and we get that when Senator Finch visits his mansion to announce she’s declined his kryptonite importation license. Lex wants power and lots of it; he's got earthly power and now he craves godly power - thanks in part to Superman’s presence - and he doesn't care how he gets it. So when Lex asks the senator whether to call her June - mainly to reassert him - and the senator seeing through his act basically slaps him down i.e. "You can call me whatever you like. Take a bucket of piss and call it granny's peach tea, take a weapon of assassination and call it a deterrent, you won't fool a fly or me. I'm not gonna drink it, " Lex quickly latches onto that: because guess what? Lex likes to use other people's words and actions against them. In effect, the moment the senator dared come to him in person and announce that that she’s onto him (the kryptonite clearly wasn’t an innocent deterrent) and that she understood exactly what kind of man he was; was her death knell. One cannot take the court room bombing in isolation as that entire sequence is a power play on Lex's part. Lex literally and figuratively played God; like some malevolent trickster deity. The sequence also highlights the importance of naming things correctly or calling things as they are. Lex doesn't like calling things what they are. He’d rather obfuscate, belittle or use highfalutin puns to mask his true intentions. This is a man in search of power and godly power at that; to execute his will and he achieves that by blowing up the senate. This is a call-back to the grandiose painting in his father's study. Lex knows the painting is the wrong way round but Lex looks at the world the wrong way round so he leaves it as is. Heck he says it himself: "(...) that (painting) should be upside down." This blatant misrepresentation is something Lex does a lot of and each time the music and the entire mise-en-scene captures that. The wonky reworking of Superman's theme further shows that Lex sees the world through a fractured glass plane and he makes no attempt to redeem himself. He even goes as far as to completely misrepresent Superman on that fabulous helipad scene, then creates Doomsday by desecrating Zod’s body and of course, with batman whom he considered his knight - how wrong - though it is easy to see why: 1.) They are both orphans 2.) They are both from rich families 3.) They run both legacy companies 4.) They both engage in philanthropy e.g. Lex’s library donations and Bruce’s charities 5.) They both experience existential terror after the Zod/Superman battle Yet how Bruce and Lex deal with this world changing event really boils down the fundamental differences between them, and it comes down to their level of interpersonal/emotional attachments.

    Exactly, while Bruce deals with his PTSD through rage filled vengeance, lex' existential crisis is more of a self indulgence he plays with a blue ball calling it the blue planet because he wants power and until Superman dies he won't be the "man of tomorrow" The problem with the movie is it expects people to understand everything and considering people thought Batman left supes because their mother have the same name sigh it can't be helped lol

    Quite a few were missed from this video. Luthor’s painting of Milton’s Paradise Lost. The story of which perfectly mirrors the story of Lex Luthor himself. When Batman holds the spear to Superman’s chest. A reference to the painting of St. Michael vanquishing Satan by Raphael. At this point, Bruce has deluded himself into believing that he is in fact killing an entity of pure evil, making him the saviour of the world. What about the frame of Lex Luthor on top of the tower looking at the sunset as a reference to the painting ‘The Conqueror’ of Napoleon. The death of Superman mirroring 2 distinct paintings of the death of Christ. Young Bruce ascending into the sea of bats mirroring ‘Paradise’ from Dante’s Paradiso.

    Haron Takes Five The problem with the film is that the comics aren't always dark, especially not the Superman comics. There is always a lighthearted tint to the drama before or after, minus some moments that warrant extreme seriousness, to help keep the tone accesible. This movie is dark for the sake of being dark. It didn't earn the right to do the things it did, unlike the comics.

  • @LilBitDistributist

    @LilBitDistributist

    7 жыл бұрын

    Alex Hill this movie isn't dark for the sake of it, there's a point to all of it. it's been known for a while that bvs was intended to be the darkest chapter in order for justice league to have more weight and to bring the light/hope to the forefront. it was intentionally designed to get the dark stuff out of the way. even batman killing had a purpose, the purpose was to have superman inspire him, become Batman again, and form the league. Chris Terrio said before bvs was released that MoS, BvS:UE, and JL is one big superman story. it also parallels with Christ. MoS representing the birth, BvS with death (hence why it's darker), and JL being his resurrection. basically the contrast for JL to be more hopeful and inspiring was why BvS was so dark.

  • @Balty_Burnip

    @Balty_Burnip

    7 жыл бұрын

    My main problem with that is that the film didn't earn the right to do the things it did. Even if it is a Christ allegory, it isn't a good excuse to copy the Death of Superman story in the second film. Superman never really was a strong Christ allegory in the comics anyway, with the two only strongly sharing a signal of hope.

    Critics and audiences didn’t see the pure cinematic quality in this film. Most took it as just another comic-book film competing with Marvel but Snyder clearly included so many layers that the film demands to be dissected over and over again. Once the Marvel reign has passed through I believe people will truly begin to appreciate (the director’s cut) of this film. It’s truly ahead of its time and I’m not afraid to say it’s one of my favorite films of all time.

Something about the images and the experience of how the film moves lingered with me. It was tone-driven. Characters didn't just explain what they were doing to you and why. You were sort of left to form your own interpretations. A rare cinematic experience in a sea of predictable superhero checkbox movies made for children.

For example, when he is walking towards the Wayne Mausoleum, or when he is walking towards Wayne Manor. He is walking forward, but with no resolute path - he is truly lost. But after Superman's death inspired him, and he finally realizes what he has to do to redeem himself from the loss that he suffered and tragedy, he finds a path - while walking away from the funeral.

    "Zack Snyder only makes mindless action movies. Zack Snyder is unnecessarily grim." Zack Snyder is building a more hopeful Justice League through Arthurian and Christian symbolism. If BvS were happy, it would mean that the right direction for the heroes' early stories would be toward negativity. That would mirror Marvel. Instead, he started in the dark and set them on a path toward the light - a distinction lost on many viewers, and unfortunately one that Snyder will undoubtedly earn no credit for, as people will say the more hopeful aspects of the upcoming films were forced into them by the studio execs. We all know, however, that studio interference in the editing process is what is dooming the DCEU right now. Hopefully Patti Jenkins (a director who is historically not afraid to leave production on a film she doesn't feel proud enough of) will have enough leeway to do what needs to be done with Wonder Woman. P.S. And hopefully Zack Snyder will learn from BvS that he should stand up for the original cuts of his films and not let execs whittle them down

    Jimmy Klimt After seeing the Ultimate Edition and the scene where they burn the bodies to make it look like heat vision killed them I realized the editing was forced. That was a key moment that wasn't shown originally

    Bullet holes are not necessarily an uncommon thing in that area of the world, unfortunately. And as far as casings and actual bullets - these are Black Ops mercenaries, they could easily count their shots and pick up all the evidence. In fact, they did, and only one bullet made it past them because it was lodged in Lois' journal.

    MovieFan123 Sounds very opinionated mate. The character development was great in this movie. There are so many great themes in this film and great symbolism. Lex was a great villian, who got exactly what he wanted to achieve. A broken world with no more Superman. I have seen many many many films, lf all genres, and Batman v Superman is a great film.
