ALLOTMENT VLOG - I PLANTED 50 STRAWBERRY ROOTS 🍓

Hi friends,
You read that right. I finally set the bin on fire, and it didn't quite go to plan. We've also started planting our strawberries, and I'm so happy with how the allotment is going.
Thank you for joining me on my allotment journey. I hope you enjoy this video ♡

A great start. 👏👏👏 I think there are raspberries. Just a tip. Don’t have your fire near your poly tunnel as little embers may drift over and melt holes in it. And don’t have it under a low hanging tree in winter as the tree may catch. See you next time.

Yes, I definitely need some fire safety training! 🫣 I'm glad I didn't do it on my own as I would have majorly panicked. I'm going to move the bin somewhere more open next time. Thank you for watching! ♡

Not sure why you burned that wood? You could have made a super wildlife pile, or the bottom of a compost pile. Hey ho, I can see you're still learning - the inside and out plants are raspberry canes. They'll be giving you delicious berries between midsummer and December, if you're lucky - I have autumn raspberries which often keep fruiting well into the winter season.

  • @YorkshireSerenity

Don't worry, friend, I have endless piles of sticks left over that are to one side that I plan to use as canes and compost. I just don't know where to start. I honestly didn't think about using it for wildlife, so that's a fantastic idea. The reason I burnt some of it was because I have piles and piles of it, and I'm slowly trying to clear out each corner of the plot. I'm very excited about the raspberries, what a lovely surprise. I also think I found some blackberry bushes at the top of the plot today, but I'm not sure. There will be a video tomorrow of me going through it all. I didn't get a chance to have a good look today. Thank you for your comment! ♡

Ohmy, you are going to be swimming in Strawberries! That's so many plants! When they grow bigger they eventually are going to send out 'runners' which takes energy away from growing fruit, so make sure to cut those off when they start growing those. It will become a regular chore as they send out A LOT of runners.

🎉🎉 excellent keep the numbers growing along with the veg 😊. My Mr doesn’t either and I can totally understand the Pickle protection. Are they muscari? Smoke will follow you 😂😂 it does me 🤦🏼‍♀️. You may need to move the pit and stabilize it better you don’t want holes in the poly. They looks like brambles, if they have thorns and aren’t producing I’d dig them up. Great job on the plot have a super week, Ali 🥶🌞🇨🇦

Hi Ali, I am so grateful for your comment. I definitely think we need to move the bin. It started leaning towards the polytunnel, and I was like,'Oh lordy, how do I fix this problem before it gets unfixable?!' But thankfully, it stayed upright.. this time. I'm going to see if it flowers or produces anything over summer, and if not, I'll dig it out. I hope one of my summer videos is just hundreds of strawberries!! All the best to you, dear. ♡

For future reference, dont have a fire near tree roots. Root fires smoulder underground aling the roits of trees and the like. They are rare but you dont want to risk it as you might not know about the fire until the following day, they are slow burning until they reach the surface again. Mught want to get a slab to place under it for the future and place it on the least root congested area on the plot.

I do love a good fire but I’d be very tempted to move the fire pit to a safer place and maybe put it on a paving slab for stability. Also you might want to get the Picture This plant identifier, I’ve got this and it’s fabulous for when you’re unsure what’s what. It’s free if you press cancel when asked about subscription but it still allows you to use the identification camera. I think it’s great for newbie gardeners like us. I thought I had a load of blackcurrants and they turned out to be redcurrants when I identified them so I had to buy a blackcurrant! Deb

I just love fires - if I hadnt been a librarian I'd have been an arsonist!😂 I was under the impression strawberries are only shallow rooting. I grow them in troughs. With deep soil in a polytunnel you could literally grow anything - melons, tomatoes, grapes even. However I know Yorkshire weather so in Sheffield the most exciting crop for me is sweet potatoes if we get a summer!😂

We will definitely look at growing something more exciting in the polytunnel next year, but this year, we really wanted to keep it to tidying up and easy fruit as it's going to be a mega busy summer for us with a baby due. Warm and sunny again today and 74 f so had to get the pump out and water everything, good job I have plenty water this year, not as much as England though, but enough. Why sit in the car, is it that cold and I've been watering with my shirt of getting a tan ready for the summer heat. Not too alarm you but the weather in the U.K. is not going too improve over the coming years will slowly get worse as the climate gets warmer so the extremes will be more extreme. I f I were you I'd pack the family up and move out, head south.Plenty room here and lots of very cheap houses and land, way way cheaper than where you are. I did it as prices of land went way beyond my budget But bought for cash here 4.5 acres and a 4 story house with 650 squ, meters for less than a 2 bed semi in Leeds.,
