YOU CAN'T BEAT A STORM! ALLOTMENT VLOG FOR BEGINNERS.

I have only managed to get down to the plot twice this week, but the arch is finally up! I will be sure to share in my next video.
The temp greenhouse is finally packed away and I actually have space to more, even a big enough space for a seated area.....time to look out for some freebie outdoor table and chairs.
THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HAVE SUBCRIBED, IT MEANS ALOT.
If you are new here, welcome to my channel.
my 10 meter x 14 meter plot is based in Buckinghamshire zone 7

Hi Lucia. I think it's really nice you helped your plot neighbour. You got a great reward with that raspberry. I planted my raspberries in the ground not realising they will spread everywhere. Their roots travel and new plants pop up in odd places lol. The flowers look good in the pallet planter. The plot's looking good. X

The plan of planting them on the edge of my plot was on hope if they spread, please spread the other way from my plot 🤣. I was warmed by another few plot holders that others may pick them, but I’d rather that than a raspberry covered plot.

I love my (very small) garden, but I love watching you allotment gardeners over there! We don’t have that in Australia. We do have shared community garden plots, but not spaces like you guys have. I love the idea of going out to your very own garden and being a part of a community at the same time. Wishing you joy in your allotmenting journey! 🙂

I know have a garden of my own, so feel super lucky to have got my allotment. I think community gardens are great and there should be more where I am. Have you read up on container growing and growing in small places? Great for small gardens. 🥰

Absolutely! I grow in storage totes and buckets. It’s about 80 square metres on a hill. I grow fruit trees in ground and have put levels of boardwalk step downs around them to create level spaces (there was no flat space before and sitting on a chair made you feel like you were about to roll down the hill. lol). I have buckets and totes along all the boardwalk paths.

Your garden sounds amazing with what you have done. What do you find grows best in containers for you?

Just about anything, dependent on choosing an appropriate size tub and your ability to keep water and nutrients up to it. It gets hot and dry where we live, so watering strategies are really important. This summer I’m going to try a solar timed water pump from a water butt. It’s winter here now though, so cooler and more manageable. I’m currently growing spinach varieties, peas, broad beans, carrot, lettuce, beetroot, onions, garlic, potatoes, a number of brassicas…all the usual suspects really. lol. I also grow cane berries, strawberries, blueberries and currants in large tubs. Last summer I even managed a small crop of corn.

I like the designs you use for your plot. One small thing I noticed was not in the plot but the technical issue with volume. Your voice is much lower in volume than the music. I'm no expert or even know how to set these for the site. Reusing things is always good. The lemon balm was looking poor, but given it's in the mint family, cutting it back (new one) will make it stronger. I have it everywhere here, usually pull it out, dry it.

I think I need a posh camera with a microphone. I’m still so new to this whole video thing.

What veggie are you most excited about growing? I have a few, I'll say leeks and potatoes

It’s my very first time growing leeks and parsnips, so I’m really excited about them. More so parsnips as so many other plot holders told me I’d be lucky if they even germinate…..and they did! And are growing.
