    Rhubarb is a heavy feeder. Once you've harvested a few stalks (that's not a very big plant) leave several stalks and throw some of that free cow manure on top.

    Hello again. I hope youre keeping well. Its really nice to see the progress on your plot, can see its much tidier now and lots of green is coming through. All looks lovely so far and the effort is definitely paying off, the pond and poly tunnel especially. I totally get seeing other spaces can lead us to draw comparisons, but you have a great attitude towards that as you say/know it will take time to make it as you imagined. That took me a long while to get, the patience, which you understand already so you're ahead of many in that sense. Im sure lots of ideas come though which can be helpful, then again theres what you want and have plans for which is what matters most. I think the future strawberry crop is a wise and grand plan which should bring a lot of food (and jam) for your family. I tried only a few plants last year and didnt get as many strawbs as I hoped for, so I thank you for this idea . Cant wait to see what you get up to next time. Always, wish the best.

    Ollie, thank you for your wonderful comment. I couldn't stop smiling reading it through. I'm glad you can see some progress. I think I'm trying to power through it really quickly, but I definitely don't have the energy right now. Thank you for coming back and watching my videos. I hope you have a good strawberry yield this year. Have a wonderful day, friend. ♡

    One way to help determine what goes where is the sun. It is shaded early or late on some areas, dappled in others, and full sun on the area you want to grow things that do need a lot of sun, like pumpkins, peppers, tomatoes. Second criteria is access to water, how long away some parts are. Each garden started with ONE plant, a few seeds. Rhubarb does need water.

    I'm going to harvest that rhubarb this week and make some crumble! But yes, those are great points. We have water access on both sides of the plot, and it's all open, so a lot of sunlight (I think!) ♡

    I think you should leave the rhubarb this year (as in don't harvest any) and let it get established. And it's a heavy feeder, so fertilize it with manure or a good compost tea or comfrey tea... When you do go to harvest it, pull the stalk out at the base, don't cut it.

  • @YorkshireSerenity

    @YorkshireSerenity

    I'll definitely consider that although they're looking a little flat at the moment. Should I just give them more water and add compost? ♡

    I think it would be wise to start digging out the nettle roots around and above those mounds. If there is compost underneath you could spread it about that area. Before long those nettles will be nearly as tall as you and setting seed everywhere if you don't get stuck in with the job of clearing them. Leave a patch of nettles somewhere on the plot for beneficial insects and to use to make nettle tea fertiliser. Cover and smother the weeds as much as you can, otherwise dig them out. Small steps, one bed at a time, and get something planted growing in them one at a time.

    That nettle mound gives me so much anxiety, haha, but thank you for the tips! I literally stare at it every time I'm up and think, 'How do I tackle that?' I bet it becomes quite a big space when it's all cleared out! Thanks for your comment, Caroline ♡

    You seem quite overwhelmed. Just focus on the polytunnel and maybe 1 raised bed for this year and clear one area at a time. Put some cardboard down and mulch once you’ve dig the weeds out. And please don’t compare yourself, you’re pregnant and have a toddler, you’re doing great! It will be great when the raspberries come out for your daughter to pick.

    That tree inside looks like a maple tree it definitely is not a raspberry. Raspberrys spread from underground riszones you will need to keep them under control or they will take over. Your space is looking good ❤

    Oh gosh! Okay, so we will take out the trees at the back of the polytunnel and then try to take down some of the raspberries. I didn't realise they were super spreaders!! Thank you for the help! ♡

  • @Ragt0p

    @Ragt0p

    Ай бұрын

    Oh, the joy of trying to figure out what plants you’ve inherited is 💕 I’d say to just watch the raspberries this season. You can see earlier canes dried out among the live canes. Cut those dead canes out to give space to new growth. Raspberries are not super-spreaders within a season, in my experience. But they like to «walk», so pruning those that walk too far, and prune dead canes makes sense.

  • @YorkshireSerenity

    @YorkshireSerenity

    Great advice. I can definitely trim back the dead runners. I'm so excited to see what I can harvest this year, even though all I've planted are strawberries, ha! ♡

  • @RuCreated
    @RuCreatedАй бұрын

    Could be grape vines they start small and then grow up and as there is one each side seems like theyve been planted to grow up and around the inside door of your poly tunnel ie a perfect place for grapes and they need more warmth so later in the season so leave them in and wait and see but my bets would be grape vines.

    All those plants are raspberries, inside the poly tunnel and outside. Raspberries grow by suckers that can come up anywhere, which is how they are growing in the poly tunnel. Personally I would take them out as they have the potential to get out of control.
