The tree stump story arc, though unintended it was brilliantly funny. Im glad Mr Serenity wasnt in trouble. You have great ideas for the plot and lots of determination. It does take a while to settle in and more time to see what works for what you want to do. I found breaking up a space into three or more areas, even just a bed for two can help keep it manageable in stages. For large areas if you want to clear them, ive found a strong black plastic sheet as a cover can help prepare a bed to plant for the next season with a bit less effort in weeding. Also, If you like tomatoes, and only you, please get a plant or two for yourself. I think being a mum is being always mindful and selfless as you are, its only right you have something to look forward to when Summer begins. Thanks for making these great videos, youre a natural at this.

Oh wow, what a lovely comment. Thank you, Ollie! I love the idea of sectioning it off into sections. I think little and often is going to be key at this. There are a tonne of weeds. I'm so glad you enjoyed the tree stump saga. It will be a great memory to look back on. Yes, I'll plant a couple of tomato plants for myself as a treat! Thanks again for your comment! ♡

A good solution to fencing could be to build a pallet fence if you have access to regular free pallets or dismantle them and use the boards to build your fence panels. It is time-consuming but cost-effective and does look neat if done correctly.

One of my neighbours has pallet fencing, and I think it looks fine. I'm definitely up for a cheaper fencing alternative for the first couple of years! ♡

I’ve just realised you’re not too far away as you’re visiting twin locks. I got my pallets for the fencing from an industrial site near Skipton, it’s just opposite The Range and McDonald’s on the way back towards Bingley. It’s called Euro xxxxxx they were really kind and let us take it free of charge. It’s made a fabulous fence and I’ve even painted it to look nicer. Hopefully will keep out the pesky rabbits too. Deb

Lidl have some really good deals on plants - Aldi probably do the same so definitely shop around - and yes a bench is a fab investment I don't have an allotment but buying a bench made life much easier when my grandson Noah is here I look after him every Saturday 💙 he's always giving me stones and leaves (he calls them feathers 🤷) and twigs when we go to the shop 🤷

Sad what people chuck in ponds 😢😢, but at least you😅 didn’t fall in 😅. Great update and I hope the weather clears up soon, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

Congratulations on getting your lovely allotment. Chestnut pale fencing would be a great option for this space. You an get 10 meter rolls delivered for less than £ 90 a roll. Pallets are often free to collect but they are very heavy to lug around and transport. Think about the cost of the time and effort, either way, you will need posts whacked into the ground to secure them to. Treat yourselves to a few areas to grow in this year and smother the rest of the weeds. Strim them down and leave to rot on the ground, put a thick layer of free cardboard down and top with weed membrane. Just a little word of caution, if you rotovate the perennial weed roots in, all the little pieces of root will re root and grow. It might look good to start with but you will be creating a much bigger problem. Happy allotment gardening!!!

Wow, Caroline, what a thoughtful post with some helpful advice. I think we are going to have to focus on fencing off the pond as a solo venture first, then we will fence the rest with it is all tidy and we have active beds. Good to know about Chestnut pale fencing! Thank you for your comment! ♡

My little one is OBSESSED with ducks, and I'm a chicken person, but I've had chickens before, and they're really messy and dig up a lot of plants and such. Whereas ducks are a little less invasive, and the eggs are supposed to be tastier (never tried them!). They're also super efficient at eating slugs, so that's a bonus. Overall, I want my little one to have ducks as pets, and I'm interested to see how they are to keep! ♡

New subscriber and looking forward to following along on your journey with your precious little pickle, soon to arrive precious pickle, and lovely plot adventures. You could make a bench using pallets (great vids on youtube) where your little family could chill out. Maybe a mini raised bed with kiddie garden tools, mini watering can etc where little pickle could grow her own sunflowers, strawberries etc and could include a mini fairy house watching over the plants for pickle. Anyways, all the very best to you and your family from across tge water in Dublin. P.s. my brother and family live in Huddersfield, not too far from you.

Two videos to wait until you realized it was an upturned pot 😂😂😂. Not sure what you’re cutting with the shears pond side but if you are trying to remove them, you should pull them out completely. Of course you’re there and know what you’re looking at and I’m on another continent watching you with a cup of coffee so easy for me to say, right? I know you’re set on filling the poly tunnel the strawberries but even the entire back half would be plenty. It’s certainly not too late to plant a few other things in there like salad tomatoes or cucumbers etc. If the garden centres are still selling starts it’s not too late. I realize the outside still needs a lot of work but I think you’d find it more satisfying if you grew a bit more of a variety in the tunnel. Just an opinion. Eager to watch your journey as I’ve just gotten a few plots at a community garden but over in North America, we don’t get large allotments like you’re blessed with, just small 100sq foot plots but I was lucky to get 3! Looking forward to what you’ll get up to.

Hello Valerie, wow, I can't believe you're based on the other side of the pond! That's so fantastic. I hope you're having great weather. Somebody said it was yellow death nettle (I think?!) So I thought maybe cutting it back was going to be a good idea but I think you're right, it's going to need digging. I'm not sure what else to grow in the polytunnel to be honest. Do you have any suggestions for something relatively easy for my first growing season? Enjoy your cuppa! ♡

@@YorkshireSerenity yes! A sun gold cherry tomato or similar variety for yourself! They are so super sweet that I’m sure your “pickle” will love them too. Every gardener needs something growing to just provide snacks while working. I know Huw Richards grows sun golds so I hope you’d be able to find it at a local nursery. One plant will do you, for snacking while there or bringing home a handful for a salad. Maybe even another plant or two of different things as it’s easy to get burned out and discouraged when there’s “nothing” to show for your hard work. A few successful things will go a long way to keeping spirits and motivation up. I would also suggest having your little plant a few beans maybe at the side of the poly because it can be exciting for children to watch things they plant grow and they grow pretty fast. Plus provide a healthy snack for them! She can even give her plant a name lol

@@YorkshireSerenityyellow dead nettle! The young parts and flowers are edible. Long used for foraging along with the other dead nettles. Pollinators love them too. They can take over easily though. Might be good to keep some in a container rather than get rid of them completely. They won't harm your little or your doggo. I second sun gold toms too, super sweet. Also another you can try that's a similar grower to tomatoes are cape gooseberries. Growing and planting are identical to tomatoes. Nice sweet fruit, sweeter than the sweetest tomato.
