Alleyway in Venice: Step by Step Gouache Painting
#watercolortutorial #watercolor #watercolorpainting
Hi guys! Here's another painting based on my travels. This one is an alleyway that I accidentally passed on a rainy day! I love the colour, lines and composition of the alleyway and decided to attempt painting it with gouache. This took me a total of around 6 hours to paint, but I think it was worth it, because it made me more comfortable with gouache as a medium :)) Enjoy!

I am so impressed by your ability add all of the fine detail to this very intricate piece. You stayed true to the picture so well. I just finished a similar project in watercolor, which was difficult, also having to change proportions as you did, not an easy task. Want to see more of your work, please. ❤

Thank youu!! Yes, sometimes you have to cut things or reposition them in order to fit the frame of the paper :( though I feel that the original proportions are much nicer, I'm still happy that I managed to fit what I wanted to include in the painting. Feel free to check out my other videos on my channel if you're interested in seeing more :))
Well done Nia this turned out really well and I feel you captured the original composition so well. I love the shine on the pathway from the wetness of the canal. I love how you inform us that you were unhappy with the watercolour and then you turned to gouache it let’s us beginners see that even professional artists can feel when things aren’t right. Thankyou so much for this inspiring tutorial I learned so much from you with this one. Xx🥰🏴

Nia!!! PHE. NOME. NAL!!! Wow girl!! Did you paint this all in one sitting?? I love this!! What I love so much about this tutorial, is how it’s just so simple yet complex, at the same time!! PS I giggled when you casually mention that you were walking the streets of Venice! Hahaha! Cause, ya know, who doesn’t just casually stroll along the streets of Venice!!🤭🤭🤭

Oh my nia there is so much to love in this picture. I live in Greece and it captures that beauty of the Mediterranean alleyway. I love the colours (we dont have those gorgeous terracotta bricks hre because of earthquakes) I was sad to lose that perfect shadow under the window when you painted the foliage...im honoured to know that it is there🧡

Haha yea! Sometimes you lose details that you like because of other elements, but I'm not mad about the tree either because it's a change of texture to the composition :p I would love to visit Greece one day. Looks beautiful and so full of history ♥️

@@Nianianiwe had an Italian watercolour painting in my childhood home and I loved it so much...I would spend hours gazing at it. You pictures have the same effect on me. I can step into the delightful scene and look around the corner or into the canal...and I'll glance up at that shadow 😊
beautiful! the stairs on the left look like a gate in original picture

Its an arched staircase, like many in Venice 🤣 I was also confused when I looked at the photo 😅
I love your painting! As usual! But looking at the orange stairs on the red building. I'm not clear on where those stairs lead to? They are in front of the green door but go up to the middle of the green door. So when you get to the top stair where to you step on from there?
