This is one of the best acceptance speeches of all time in any field. He thanked not only his friends, family, mentors, and idols, he thanked his enemies, his competitors, his betrayers, and his critics for making him stronger-and he named names and told tales while doing it. Deep, thoughtful, and simply amazing.

I lived in Philly in 2001 and it is impossible to overstate how important he was to us. If I were to ever meet him, I would shake his hand and thank him for the most exciting summer of my life. I can't adequately explain just how exciting that year was. Philly is the underdog city. The movie Rocky is about Philadelphia, it's uncrushable spirit and dogged resilience. AI embodied that perfectly. Small, flawed and outgunned, he persevered and prevailed solely on heart. Like in 1776, when some scrappy colonists took on the greatest empire the world had ever seen by declaring independence in Philadelphia.... It's about heart and determination. We didn't love Allen because he was dominant, or the greatest but because he fought with a ferocity that gave every underdog hope.

I or no one could’ve said, what you just said, any better. I was in Philadelphia at the same time. I moved from Africa to the city of brotherly love for grad school. It Was the most exciting summer and 7 years of my existence, watching basketball or any sport. the guy was just unrelenting on the court and authentic, in life. For better or worse. I miss him in the game. I don’t watch nba much anymore and now I live in London. (So the time difference with the schedule of the games, makes it almost impossible) No player like him, since him. Pound for pound, inch for inch. And he was not 6 feet tall. He was shorter. Which makes him even more remarkable. Wow

The answer (pun intended) is because some people just suck and got their heads so far up their own asses that they can't realize genuine compassion and realness. They're looking for what's only good for them, not anybody else, and their own ignorance doesn't allow them to see true greatness or the ability to see past the surface of another human being. The media shines the light on news that would otherwise be kept in the dark, but can also drag the truth away at the same time if a different angle looks more appealing or worthy of bigger coverage. . .AI is the Answer for realness and he played the game of basketball the way it should be played; tough on both ends of the court and with determination to accompany his extraordinary skill.
