Allen Edmonds Restoration | Repair with Dainite Rubber Soles

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, we take a pair of Allen Edmonds First Avenue boots, which originally had leather/rubber soles, and we switch them out for Dainite rubber soles and top lifts. Dainite soles & top lifts are an option for Allen Edmonds shoes and boots, and they're always a favorite among those shoe aficionados out there.

I learn something new from a customers prospective in each video. The information sharing really distinguishes Trenton & Heath from other fantastic shoe repair channels. The informative content that the channel provides educates viewers so they may be more inclined to use their local cobbler thereby supporting a local business in their community. I'm sure Trenton & Heath's level of transparency and quality have put you on many viewers short list! Great job guys! Side Note: The AE 1st Ave is a great boot and should never have been discontinued.

I like this craftsman. He explains what he is doing and tells us why he is doing it. Just a heads up to the Allen Edmonds experience. There are many shoes that are more expensive than A.E. None of which compare to the quality workmanship that goes into the A.E. Shoe. In addition if you call the factory and request having your shoes recrafted, they will mail you a postage free bag. Place your A.E. shoes in the bag and mail them with your name, address, phone number. Explaining what you would like done. They will send you back your shoes and they will look close to new. Excellent company, great service.

I did the Allen Edmonds recraft once. But what I found to be a better idea was to start a relationship with a local cobbler who you can personally talk to about the process. (I use Vinny from A1 Shoe Repair in Sonoma, CA) I have had a much better experience and with higher quality for a slightly less cost with a local guy.

Hi Trenton & Heath. Always fun & interesting to watch you work on & restore boots & shoes. I loved the end result on this particular job. The boots really look great. Ok ne thing I wanted to mention - I think you guys should both wear gloves while using dyes, cremes, polishes, chemicals such as acetone, or any other type. (May over time be harsh on the skin...never know.) And I think you should both wear boots while working...instead of sandals, just to be on safe side.

It’s very very hard to strip off all of an original stain color. Unfortunately, shoe creams/waxes won’t lighten a shoe enough to go from dark/medium brown to light brown.

  • @TrentonHeath

    @TrentonHeath

M Sato Hi! Thank you for subscribing! Any rubber sole will be more waterproof than leather soles. It doesn’t necessarily make the shoe/boot more waterproof, but the soles will be. As far as the Renomat, I would recommend using a saddle soap to clean off the shoe after using it. If you don’t have a saddle soap leather soap, at least wipe them down with a damp cloth. I hope this helps.

Hi Trenton and Heath, I absolutely loved the video. just amazing to see the whole process. Came over from The Kavalier, and wanted to know would the saphir Reno Mat remove the top coat from a Cole Haan or a Jonston and Murphy shoe ?

Farhan Ahmad We’re glad to have you! In regards to the Reno Mat, it can. I tell folks that you have to be very careful when using the Reno Mat, or any other stripping product, as it can definitely remove the finish on certain leathers. It’s usually best to only use this product on smooth, higher quality, open pored leathers. We work on A LOT of Cole Haans and Johnston & Murphy’s, and I would not recommend this product on most shoes from these brands. I would probably just stick with a basic saddle soap if you’re just wanting to clean them. I hope this helps.

Renomat destroyed a pair of my $ 900 Santoni shoes, it absolutely stripped ALL the colour off in a matter of seconds. Risky stuff..

Nick De Bruin Yep, we totally agree. It’s a great product for removing old built up waxes, but it’s definitely not for every shoe. I believe a lot of Santoni’s have hand burnished finishes on them, and it’ll strip all of that right off. We’ll do a video on this product soon.

Trenton & Heath, I was just gifted a new pair of Cole Haan loafers, and the shoe cream comparison video I saw that you guys said that Cole Haan shoes have a top coat on them, which can prevent the cream from soaking in the leather. I just wanted to remove the top coat to apply the Saphir cream on them. Thank you for the response!

You soak the leather soles with solvent to loosen the glue, but what do you do with rubber soles? I don't supposed the solvent penetrates rubber very well.

Hi, nice video! But how do you know you really are using the same holes in the welt? You sew the sole turned upside down.. Thanks!

I would like to know what shoe brands is best for the money? I have several pairs of Allen Edmonds they last for ever. Cole Haan's are good shoes if they are on sale, I don't think their leather is anywhere never that of Allen Edmonds. Alden looks really nice bit I have never bought any of those.

Do you replace inside & outside of lower foot and restrech shoe leather on machine? How much would you charge for this service? I'm thinking of buying a used pair & have this restored as requested above.

You said you were going to use the cork sheet. The after shot appeared to be the smeared on hot cork. Am I wrong?

Why did you not put on a leather mid sole between the cork and the rubber? Just wondering they are boots after all.
