All Useful Stealable Items and How Stealing Works - Steal Guide - Final Fantasy V

Ойындар

This is my video on stealing in FF5. A while back I made a video about stealing in FF7 and I've been meaning to make this video for a while and it is finally completed. I look at what goes into stealing and then move on to useful and/or unique steals in the game. For the item list I've not included the additional dungeon and gear from the GBA version.
If you're interested in my FF7 steal video you can find it here • All Useful Stealable I...
I've collected the data and from the Final Fantasy Wiki (finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/...) and the algorithm and stats guide on gamefaqs by instructrtrepe (J.L. Tseng) (gamefaqs.gamespot.com/snes/58...)
Feel free to comment if I've got something wrong or missed some useful stealable item.

    you've mathematically explained why I found the steal mechanic in FF games generally annoying, and I enjoy the game more just not dealing with it. Not really fun to try 33 times to get a 50% chance to get a rare item. And you have to use a guide to figure out where to steal.

  • @Slerran

    @Slerran

    I can understand your frustration. Stealing, as you say, almost requires that you have a guide. Rare steals are quite something to try to get in this game. It takes a lot of patience

  • @RoninCatholic

    Steal having a base 40% chance is pretty terrible, no wonder the ability is so underrated. I'm used to it having a "bypass accuracy check" level of default accuracy, having only the enemy's steal rate matter.

    Stealing Mythril Swords and then selling them is a good (if tedious) method of getting money in the first world, especially in a low level game or other restricted runs where you have access to stealing.

    The Harvester around Crescent Island have Death Sickles. They're pretty strong and have a chance of casting Death. I used it religiously before obtaining the Twin Lance. It should also be mentioned you can find flame Rings through the Alchimia's Toad. Just use a Maiden's Kiss on it and it'll become a Red Dragon.

    It's worth noting that the Fire Powered Ship is only inaccessible during the first world during the brief period between completing the Library of the Ancients and acquiring the airship, it's right next to the airship when you land it at the Catapult, though in most scenarios you probably don't need hi potions enough for going back there to be worth it

I gotta say the Titan, Gaia hammer steal, is one of the most frustrating steals to get and it makes me REALLY happy they added the autosave feature. @@Slerran Audio is the worst, I usually have the worst audio with streams but just take some time to mess with your audio settings, and make sure your mic is facing the correct way (if you have an external), I had mine for years and didn't realize I had it facing wrong. As for the steal, it's a good one, I got it once on a Ps1 file and Faris went berserker all of W2 up until Exdeath's castle, I wish there were more steals that gave weapons that weren't accessible until at least 2 towns further so you'd be more incentivized to use thief.

    Agreed! I did not have an external mic when I was recording this, but do now and I think my audio has improved at least a little. It is hard to find the correct settings still and I do have the unfortunate habit om mumbling a bit :P Nice one! Yeah stealing is OK in the game but it could most certainly have more epic steals. One of my favourite steals is the Flame Ring you can steal from the Red Dragon in the "Monster"-in-a-Box"-chest in the Barrier Tower. It can be repeated even without "Return" since the chest closes when you run from the dragon.

    Yeah the Brave Blade has it's uses but the knife is more versatile and deals a little more damage. The problem with the knife is that you do need to run a lot in order to make it great. And as you say, with certain limitations or playstyles the blade will certainly be the stronger of the 2.

    @@Slerran one hitch would be a persons strategy for stealing multiple items from an enemy that only appears once like sekmet. Pretty good steal guide for people who would rather watch a video instead of looking up a list online. Your opinions about what steals are worthwhile is a nice addition as well. You did miss some good common steals though, you mention a lot of rare steals from enemies but don't mention the commons which are often more useful depending on your party: World 1 boss Manticore: common steal dragon fang Final Void area Crystal Dragons: common steal elixir World 2 boss Castle Exdeath: common steal elixir World 3 boss Leviathan: common steal elixir Void boss Azulmagia: common steal elixir Void boss Catastrophe: common steal elixir Void boss Necrophobia: common steal elixir This group of mostly bosses is a way for the thief to easily contribute something during boss fights, since the job typically isn't much of a fighter. Maybe you don't think Chemist mix items are good? Void enemy Orucat: common steal dark matter. There are a couple bosses with common steal dark matters, but the Orucats do almost nothing and can come in packs of 4 so they're the easiest to take advantage of. Dark Matter is in a bunch of Chemist mixes, the most useful being the Death Potion mix with phoenix downs which inflicts death status on enemies and never misses as long as the enemy is vulnerable to death status. While this is late in the game and there are dark matters in the pyramid, those are fights you might want to skip and there are still enemies in the void you might want to kill with Death Potion mixes like form 2 of TwinTania and Necrophobia's barriers or even Iron Giants if you want exp (not needed with Chemist, other than to show dominance). W2 enemy Blue Dragon: common steal dragon fang Void enemy Great Dragon: common steal dragon fang Bahamut and Shinryu also have common steal dragon fangs, the latter is actually better to steal from because you can steal and flee before it can act and gather a bunch of fangs if you want. Dragon fangs are in many useful chemist mixes, e.g. dragon fang + potion = +20 levels on a character. If you have a Chemist, these common steal fangs are much more useful than Shinryu's rare Dragon Whisker steal.

    Good points and I could've made som honorable mentions I suppose. I did mention the Elixir from Crystal Dragon but not as the main steal from it. The other Elixirs could've been mentioned I suppose though I chose the repeatable enemies for that item rather than bosses :) I am well aware of how broken mixing is :D I do however usually find it easier to farm for those through drops as they are usually dropped at a 100 % drop rate from the right enemies which is why I didn't include them. But again you do have a good point that I could've mentioned where you could steal them as well even though I usually don't get them that way, at least from the enemies which have tham as common steals.
