Taylor McNee really did a phenomenal job this volume. When she did Penny's emotional scenes, I really felt something. She says she's gonna start auditioning for bigger projects, and if that's so, then I have no doubt that Taylor's gonna knock em all dead.

The physics of Rubys' semblance bothers me a little because she is basically converting baryons to fermions. Without being any more technical that means that Ruby would have to be moving at the speed of light

Penny was so pure. Shes the first character I've ever cried over in a show. Such an innocent and kind soul :(

As painful as the ending is, I can't help but feel this isn't the last we've seen of Penny. It would be an absolute *waste* to spend all of that time developing her as a character, create an even deeper relationship with the *main protagonist* , and have the rest of the characters go through such lengths to save her. From a narrative stand point, it would not make sense to end her story here, so I don't think we're done. ...But, if I am wrong and Penny really *is* gone for good this time, I can only express how absolutely terrible the whole situation is

Gone but not fully gone I think If the island in v9 is the afterlife, we could see her there to give a goodbye to Ruby We could see a remnant of her bleeding through into Winter, kinda like the merge with Oscar and Ozpin. I'd die if she said "Salutations" Or maybe Pietro could make a new Penny. She wouldn't have the memories and would be more like her little sister but it'd be so adorable

There is one chance. The Spirit of Creation (whatever his name is) is very eager to meet whoever created Penny. He could meet Pietro and, as a show of respect for a fellow creator, he could help to recreate Penny.

Higley doubtful. While i would very much love to have penny back, It would be prolly (regardless of how they do it) be cheap as hell. She's already come back once (being one of the few characters that could to begin with), doing it again would lessen: -Her becoming the winter maiden. -Her becoming an actual flesh and bone human. -Jaune's absolute horror of a mental state after what he did (which was the right thing given the circumstances, i ain't blaming him) -The friction that will inevitably happen once Rwbi and the rest of jnpr figure out what jaune did. -All of a sudden death matters less, people can just come back. Also the sheer amount of "This is not Monty's vision" that would follow would be legendary. Not saying i'd be good, but i would get some popcorn for it.

Now this does put a smile on my face (until the end 😭)

There maybe a chance. Ambrosius, the Spirit of Creation, said he would love to meet whoever created Penny, clearly admiring her with his passion for creation. Maybe he could meet Pietro and help him recreate her.

@@DamontheDemon7 I think he could him create...somebody, but it wouldn't be exactly Penny. Her core was destroyed and her memories with it. We could get another robo girl, though she'd be more like Penny's sister and may look/act differently

Too late unfortunately Ruby doesn’t know yet until volume 10 from what I heard and Neo got away after having tortured Ruby and Ascends, thus likely becomes a blank slate that isn’t Neo. That made me mad that Ruby got mentally tortured They really wanted Ruby to get messed up in the head since Beacon Fell to the point even after volume 9, Ruby now throws herself into danger without regard for her own life in the Justice League crossover

Both my Ruby shisuta imouto-san/my main waifu, & my penny shisuta imouto-san are really beautiful.

With penny having lost her robot body shes as dead as any other person now. The spirits cant bring back the dead so the only real hope would be bringing back the gods. After all they brought ospin back with ease so its the only real way.

yes and no. They brought his soul back but were very much against bringing his body back as it'd destroy the balance of life and death. I don't think they'd make an exception for Penny or else that'd raise the question, what about Pyrrha, Summer, and anyone else who dies before the story ends

What if the Gods brought back her soul and Pietro built a new robot body for Penny that the soul could be planted in?

Poor Penny. She was too wrapped up in her own guilt to listen to reason. Or to listen in general. Even to people who had her best interest at heart. And when all else failed, she took drastic and reckless measures to clean up her mess and make a choice of her own. Even if it meant sacrificing herself to do it. Penny didn't need to become human to BE human. She was already human. All of her worries were proof of it. A real robot would care less about everything and be driven by logic. And only a person with a soul can take the Maiden powers. If anything turning her into a full human only made her more vulnerable. If only she knew that if she didn't take the Maiden powers in the first place, Cinder would've killed her AND Winter, then the Maiden, take her powers, open the Vault, claim the Relic and Atlas would've fallen before everyone knew it. That action saved thousands of innocent lives. Sure, Winter still got hurt but at least she's alive. Better hurt than dead. And sure, the kingdom still came under siege. Better that than complete annihilation. Besides a kingdom is nothing without its people. A kingdom can be rebuilt but the lives of the people who live in it are finite. Something Robyn Hill believed in. No one was blaming her. But, besides Ironwood and the Ace-Ops gaslighting and guilt tripping her, the one person who was truly blaming Penny for all of this was herself. All of this was beyond her control. And her blaming herself hurt more than it helped. She may be the Protector of Mantle and now the Winter Maiden but she's not Supergirl. All of her friends tried to talk to her and kept telling her it wasn't her fault. But she pushed them away. She began to think that everyone, including her friends and father, was holding her back from making her own choices and fix her mistakes. This is stemmed from her insecurities as a robot being forced to obey without questioning. She failed to understand that her loved ones were only trying to reign her in from doing anything drastic and help her on the right path. They know what she's going through and want her to make her own decisions. But they don't want her to achieve it in ways that involved basically killing herself. Besides sacrifice is only a noble act when the implications are fully understood and when its purpose is just. Making decisions in a haste or in isolation can lead to devastating results. She even failed to understand that none of her loved ones gave a damn whose fault it was, even if it was hers. All they wanted to do was help her fix it. It wasn't a burden for her to bare alone. This mess was kinda their fault, too. They were all on the same boat. What happened to Nora wasn't her fault, either. She did what she had to save Penny and the rest. If she didn't, the Ace-Ops would've arrested them all and probably use them as hostages to force Penny to open the Vault. During the climax of the final battle, she disobeyed her friend's order to go through the portal to Vacuo to protect the Relic. She started suffering from the guilt again after seeing Cinder and rushed on in. She jeopardized the mission because her guilt, doubts, insecurities, failures clouded her judgment. She forgot to that both her powers AND the Relic were what Cinder was after. Staying behind and help her friends is exactly what Cinder wanted Penny to do. She fell right into her trap. She could've thrown the Relic into the portal when no one was looking and THEN stay to help out, but nope. She didn't listen because she was done listening. She wanted to make a choice whether they liked it or not. She didn't even consider the consequences of making Jaune unnecessarily do the unthinkable. Even if it was to prevent Cinder from getting the power and even if there was no time to heal her, it's still irrational. In short, she tried too hard to fix the problems she may or may not have caused that she lost sight of what was really important. More was at stake here. Sacrifice wasn't the only solution. She was being selfish, desperate and impatient. Dying isn't cool. Think about how it would affect people's hearts. Especially your loved ones. She didn't put any thought into her choices before she did them. All because of her clouded judgment. All in all, I'm not trying to make it sound like I'm slandering Penny. Don't get me wrong, I know Penny meant well. But her "sacrifice" was still bad no matter how you slice it. She kept trying to sacrifice herself to fix everything until she finally got her wish. But it came at a heavy cost: She lost her life, she lost the Relic, Pietro lost his daughter, Winter and Ruby lost a very good friend, Jaune will carry this tragedy and the part he played in for the rest of his life and now Salem is just two steps ahead of her goal. I'm not mad at Penny, I'm mad at what she did and what she didn't try to do, instead. And my negative opinion about her death remains unchanged. Edit: I'm appalled that the Ace-Ops blatantly lied to Penny's face about Winter being in a critical condition just to goad her into surrendering. Their partially responsible for her death, too.

Let's see, originally Monty did said he wanted team rwby to have a sister relationship thus discarding the chances for romance in the team. Supposedly the pairings that would have been were🤔: White Knight. Perhaps, perhaps not. Black Sun. Monty DID set it up. Nuts and Dolts. A good friendship is the foundation of a good relationship. Yang with no one. Her ego knows no bounds.

They kinda did Ironwood dirty, Ospin kept him in the dark on some information, and he was doing what he thought was best to protect people, and they turned him into a monster in the end

@@Justking Ozpin should've been up front from the beginning that Salem is his unkillable omnicidal ex, and that the only realistically achievable goal is to maintain status quo and stymie her attempts at infiltration and agitating the populace/Grimm until they find a long-term method of dealing with Salem or the Grimm. He'd probably still be inclined toward some big vainglorious battle, but I think he could've gradually realized that Ozpin is largely correct in the matter. Ozpin didn't really clarify that the threat can't be stopped by military means
