Yup. Just like in Chicago, and the innocent, honest suffer. It happened in my city 3/15/23. And the impact it's had on us. Vets, people with out a vehicle. It was one short bus ride and now it's very difficult to get to another Walmart. Especially if you're in a wheelchair or use a walker. Thanks 😢

This is an opportunity for the good people of Portland to reflect on their policies. Maybe letting other people steal from other people’s businesses wasn’t the best idea after all. Who would of thought?

The closing at 7pm to 11pm is they have to restock the shelves. The less people they can afford; the earlier they have to close to do the same job of stocking shelves.

This could have been predicted by a third grader but not the residents of the area. Did any community leader speak out about the theft and caution that this could happen? Heck no. Oh well. Bye bye jobs. Bye bye tax revenue. Good job people!

There's another Walmart less than 10 min down the road that's not closing. I actually worked at this walmart years ago and we were all ahocked they would open one so close. Also that winco mentioned is litterally a short walk, everyone is going to be fine. Anyone saying shoplifting isn't a factor is nuts. These Walmarts are really close to where large numbers of homeless people camp. I work across the street from the one in this video and we find demolished security tags in our parking lot at night from shoplifters parking and ripping them off the stuff they stole. Homeless shoplifting is so bad in this neighborhood that it caused a 7-11 to shut down down the road. They would congregate in front at all hours that normal shoppers stopped going. And yes it is the liberals fault. Years ago they stopped police from preventing people from camping out in the city. Made the argument that it was so dehumanizing. Well here we are. Doesn't matter because all those people that wanted to let them camp don't shop at Walmart anyway. Once they start shutting down the whole foods is when they'll realize they made a mistake.

Well we have too many Walmarts in a small area anyway usually there's one or two Walmarts per town there are plenty of Walmarts around too many leads to what's happening now closed just like Kmart less is more you see Costco's aren't all over . In the South there's usually one Walmart every 50 miles or so

These policies create an area for severely impoverished folks to congregate. If you have a large concentration of criminals basically in one place then you will have a lot of crime in that area. Happened in the high rise projects in Chicago. It’s like a cancer that just keeps spreading in that area. I know Portland wants to help everyone so they can get these fat federal checks to help the homeless. But, it’s too much in one area. Needs to spread that shit out brah.

Working as a 3rd party sales rep in the Tacoma area Walmarts, I can say this, the same issues are happening up here and it's so bad that Washington state troopers patrol the aisles of Walmart. This is soothing. I love it. I have been followed by security, accused of stealing, and I spend $300 a week on goods for my cleaning and condo rental businesses from them and I personally switched to Target a few weeks ago and I am so happy. Starbucks at the front of the store when I walk in, security is fair and non intrusive (if you suspect something then step punk, accuse me of it don't follow me around like a stalker creep and stare at me then act like you are just casually minding your own business, call the cops and arrest me if you think I did something a hole) and finally Target is nice because they actually have the good products in stock. Everything remotely good at Wal Mart has been stolen or bought up and they refuse to buy more because it just gets stolen again because it is a high ticket item. Put the damn stuff in a plexiglass case near the front with a special checkout person like in the electronics section of it is stolen that much. Don't just stop ordering it. Damn. I see that none of the high price office equipment is ever out of stock. But the high priced black peoples hair care product is always GONE and the other stuff black people love is gone. But the really expensive $17 dollar beef jerky I love is always fully stocked. The working equipment is never touched either. Haha You won't see them stealing tools or work boots. No zebra pens or anything like that. The things white people who work tend to value. But there are certain items that just won't stick around and others that do. Hair care for me, the 20 dollar hair waxes and gela and shampoos are all in stock, for white people. The stuff for black people is all gone and they refuse to restock it. Bahahhahaha I love me some Crew Mens hair products. But the beeswax and palmaide and whatever else they use is all gone in the store, just an empty shelf where it once was and it ceases to exit and nwver will again. I am glad they are shutting down. Not only did I become a slightly racist person due to this whole controversial topic but I respect Wal Mart a little more for doing the right thing and standing up for themselves and not sugarcoating the problem. I am glad they are hitting the 🎯 and getting these people where it hurts. Y'alls greed made your grandma and grandpa not have anywhere to go ship every Saturday and now they get to drive 50 minutes to shop and best believe this is a two part process with a whole team of new security guards and loss prevention about to be hired for the stores that will not be closing and off duty and on duty cops with the ability to tackle and arrest at the front doors of these places where they need to be because the drug problem often starts here on many days. This is where much of the people get the money to afford their habit. I can't tell you how much stuff I have seen stolen in the past when hanging at a drug den a few times and seeing whole rooms full of nothing but power tools and laundry detergents and beer and soda and wines and gas generators and compressors and DeWalt, Milwaukee, Ryobi, and Rigid brushless everything top of the line stuff stacked to the cieling and the people at the house don't know how to hit a nail in with a hammer let alone run a $750 dollar airless paint sprayer made by Graco. Haha What is that fentanyl dealer doing with 14 electric brushless DeWalt drills? Not working is the answer.

Now the thieves has to shop/steal somewhere.

Most low-income people live honestly and don't commit theft. However, when the communities have just enough criminals who commit acts of theft and violence, the stores and businesses are not going to remain in the area. If they want food deserts to stop, then tell your leaders to stop defunding and demoralizing the police departments and let them do their job of law enforcement and public safety. Tell them to stop enacting laws that disincentivize businesses from running in the downtown areas and adjacent districts. Tell them to stop taxing workers and businesses to death. Tell them to stop all the other nonsense that creates an untenable situation and uninhabitable environment. At this point, I'm convinced that this destruction of major cities (especially on the coasts) is by design, by intent and for the benefit of eventually allowing big businesses to scoop up property at poverty-level dirt cheap prices when they've been devalued, and re-gentrify everything into one obscenely unaffordable mess.

Put bars on the windows and doors. Open the stores on a appointment/reservation system only. Make people have to go online and schedule a visit to the store. No more than 100 people in the store at any time. Security at the entrance and exit checking reservation numbers.

Walmart prices have risen with everything else. They are not any cheaper than some other stores. I've already cut back a great deal even shopping at the Walmart in my area.

Moved to Portland in 1987 for school, and stayed until 1997. Nothing but fond memories. Fantastic place to live. When I arrived in Portland in 1987, I believe the population was around 425K. When I was transferred out of state in 1997, it might've been around 500k, and was getting a bit crowded. I haven't been back to Portland for a long time, but my wife went back for a wedding in 2018. She was shocked by the change. Population density was overwhelming, coupled with a complete lack of civic pride. I believe city leadership let out the wrong signal that almost anything goes in Portland, and part of the result is what we see here.
