Hi, Liron here!
As requested, in today's vid I want to share with you a quick overview of all of my YELLOWS.
As a side note, if you wish to purchase any of those, here are the (affiliate) links. You pay the exact same price - I get a commission (:

4. Yellow RAW Ochre (Schmincke) - amzn.to/2CBwq04

6. New Gamboge (Daniel Smith) - amzn.to/2CuqTYn
7. Cadmium Yellow Hue (W&N Cotman) - amzn.to/2lRrclz
I chose some objects to paint for you using the yellows I use most often. The one exception is the Cadmium Yellow I show last, by Winsor & Newton Cotman. the reason I included it was that it was a yellow I used to use extensively in my first few months of watercolor painting.

Interesting yellows. For the longest time, I had 7 colors that I used to create colors. The set that I had purchased from Daniel Smith was known as Susie Short's Essential 7 watercolors. It had 7 15 ml tubes of paint, warm and cool versions of the three primary colors as well as a tube of Quinacridone Burnt Orange, which helps to neutralize French Ultramarine. When combined, you can get a wide range of neutrals and darks. Even though I have many more tubes of paint than the 7 that I started with, I still basically use those same 7 for most of my paintings. The yellows that I have are mostly from Daniel Smith: New Gamboge, Quinacridone Gold, Hansa Yellow Medium, Aureolin, Isoindoline Yellow, Joe's Yellow (American Journey brand from Cheap Joe's), Rutile Yellow, and Yellow Orange (from Schminke). When I write them out like that, it appears that I have more yellows than I thought I did. Still, the tubes that I use most often are the New Gamboge and the Hansa Yellow Medium. However, my New Gamboge is from the older formula which only had a single pigment. The newer New Gamboge has more than one pigment. Same thing happened to Quinacridone Gold.

I'm curious about the new formulas for New Gamboge and Quinacridone Gold. Do you remember when they were introduced?

Hello. One more colour from Schmincke may spark your interest in yellows - Transparent Yellow (209). I also like quinacridone gold hue (schmincke) and quinacridone gold deep (QOR) - they have more variety of the value imho =) Thank you for sharing tips in watercolours!

On the subject of Yellow... I just read in a book today that Indian Yellow was originally made from the urine of cows that were fed mango leaves. ;)

Liron, I think you'd like Daniel Smith's Isoindoline Yellow. It's a rich warm yellow, but when you sheer it out it's peach. There are lots of value choices to this color.

story time: a couple days ago i was deciding which 3 color to keep out of my palette since there's just nor enough space and accidentally ended up with what could be an interesting primary: permanent carmine (PV19), cobalt turquoise (PG50) and jaune brilliant dark (3 pigments) _except_ the yellow is too opaque, so i was thinking with replacing it with pure yellow or the new schmincke rutile yellow, but after this i'm considering chromium 🤔🤔🤔 here's a pic if anyone's interested //drive.google.com/open?id=1gB4RNtIm4aa-cAL7qEh-9lW1F6c_p8FQ

Looks like a very interesting combo. I can see it working really well for bright harbor scenes. The Chromium is excellent so I'd give it a shot (:

i was playing with my other two yellows tmblr.co/ZTmtkx2T3rykm and since my lemon yellow is about to run out, i decided to replace it with a pure transparent yellow _and_ for this trio try one of the new schmincke yellows (maybe rutile or turner's) because i'm a sucker for capitalist consumerism 👌👌 -let me know if you want to see the follow ups-

These videos were great! Do more throw backs to them by doing monochromatic painting with a certain color every time ,choose some bold ones like green or red and do a whole monochrome with it ! It will be a good challenge, what do you think? XD

This was such a fun video! :D I am so going to buy that Chromium Yellow Hue! It looks like it is already a little muted with dioxazine purple! Oh, by the way, have you ever tried Nickel Azo Yellow by Daniel Smith? It's a very bold warm yellow which just... ah, it's so amazing. It illuminates and mixes so beautiful green colors and when put on to other wet paint it pushes away all the other pigments like a firework, but it still doesn't granulate if you use it as a mixing color.

_It looks like it is already a little muted with dioxazine purple_ Except it is not. Its bright warm yellow. It's either mix of PY153 and PY155 or single pigment PY65. DS Nickel Azo Yellow is PY150 - pigment which is available in almost every brand under various names ofc.

I said it looks like it is. Not that it is. :) I haven't tried any other color with that pigment! I might look into it because sometimes I find different brands colors behave different even if it is based on the same pigment.

Hello there: I hope you see this on time! I have till tomorrow to choose a middle of the road yellow, and since where I live I dont have art stores to help me, I have to buy online! Could you help me? I prefer is from Daniel Smith cause 95 of my palette is Daniel Smith, but I do have some Holbein. Just so I can explain what I need, let me tell you that, as my cool yellow I have Holbein's Imidazolone Lemon and as my warm yellow, I have Indian yellow from Daniel Smith Please help me fix the "gap" between those two! Which yellow can I get that is like a mid yellow, between those two. Something neutral... not greenish, not orangy, just a mid yellow. Something, TRANSPARENT and no granulating. High lightfastness is not an issue, cause I paint in skechbooks, just for me, as a therapeutic aid, and I'm bedbound which makes life hard, yes, BUT, at least, I can still paint in bed and want to be happy about my colors. 😊😊😊 Please help.

The most 'middle' yellow I have is PY154 (mine is QOR 'Benzi' yellow). It does not seem to lean towards either green or orange.

Haha, it is true for some. Honestly, my color choices are very brand specific. I LOVE Schmincke's Burnt Sienna much more than Daniel Smith's, but the opposite is true for French Ultramarine (:

Liron! I love your videos, but clean your yellows. Yellows of any pigments are especially affected by darker colors, whether they are complimentaries or browns, blacks, etc. What might scarcely affect a brown, phthalocyanine blue or carbazole violet will poison any yellow. In my opinion, if any artist is going to showcase the colors they use, showcase clean colors.
