Buff titanium uses: sand, stone, rock, and something else that I can’t remember.

I use buff titanium for mixing dull pastel colours, so in the direction of vintage colours.

It's one of the 2 colors used to make Potters Pink and it makes really cool muted colors. Mix it with some brights and you'll see what l mean!

It's also a great mixing color and for adding splashes of texture. I'm thinking it would make a great base for adding colors to create elephants, rhinos, and hippos. I always keep a half pan of white guache around too, just in case. :)

It's also great for adding body (or slight opaqueness) to skintones or buildings.

New Gamboge and Aussie Red Gold are two of my very favorite colors!

Welcome back. Hope all is well. My Daniel Smith new gamboge is listed as PY153. Apparently they've changed it at some point for some reason. I love buff titanium in mixes. Also by itself. I also enjoy the organic vermilion. I've heard somewhere that the Mayan colors are not lightfast, but I've never used any of them or tested them myself so who knows. Thanks for the video.

Hi Jay. I was waiting to see what you would say about Transparent Pyrrol Orange (PO 71) because I have Schminke Translucent Orange (PO 71) that I am using on a sunset painting now. I was running low on it and was thinking about whether to get another tube. I don't use the Translucent Orange a lot but I have always loved its transparent nature and how it flows and moves on the paper so well. When you said that the Transparent Pyrrol Orange was your favorite I smiled of the DS oranges I smiled,, and when you said the Schminke version was your favorite I was psyched. I'll be ordering another tube soon. Thanks for your video.

Nice to see some DS watercolours being swatched out. My favourites of these Yellows and Oranges that I have are:: Hansa Yellow Light (part of the DS Essentials set). New Gamboge (also part of the DS essentials set. Pyroll Orange (a stunningly intense orange) Mayan Orange (this seems more red to me, but I do like using it. The tube I have says it is PO N/A, so I can only assume that it's an "orange pigment" of a non-classified reference/secret formula. Buff Titanium - not sure how this is categorised as a yellow or orange, for me it's more like an earth colour. Regarding your question about Cadmium Yellow, I have it in the White Nights paints. I like it's intensity for mixing greens or oranges. I don't have a problem with the toxicity of the paint as I don't usually eat it or touch it with my fingers... That Aussie Red Gold is a beautiful paint, might have to look into that one. The Quinacridone Burnt Orange is one of my recent acquisitions, it's gorgeous for mixing. You might want to check that one out.

Can't believe KZread didn't show me your new series sooner! In this brand I have Azo Yellow, Mayan Yellow, New Gamboge, Aussie Red-Gold, and Transparent Pyrrol Orange. When I started out and bought my DS, I was trying to find the most transparent colors and I was going by their ratings. The Mayan yellow is just ok, would not buy again, in fact DS's yellows do not wow me.... there's no PY 154 which is my fave transparent clean yellow. Anyway, the rest are lovely especially of course the Red-Gold, which is a mix I don't hear enough about. The Australians do seem to love it though!

My favorite orange is also Transparent Pyrrole Orange ! I have QORs. After watching this video, I now know that I mixed up two half pans I bought separately : Indian Yellow and New Gamboge. As my Indian yellow (or what I thought was Indian Yellow) is too orange. I took the wrappers off and didn’t identify it on the half pan before putting it in the palette. I will have to buy them again to figure it out properly! 🤪

Yeah, not too keen on Cadmium Hues. I prefer just the actual Cadmium. But I don't use those either b/c of the toxicity to the environment. There are plenty of others that look just as beautiful so I don't miss them.🤷‍♀️😊

I use New Gamboge almost daily. It dries lighter. However I don’t feel it mixes well.

You're welcome. The earths will be coming eventually. My goodness there's a lot of them. Will probably have to split into 2 or 3 videos 🤣

I use Mayan Yellow, like the other Mayan colors it's clay based which makes it oddly opaque-like while being totally transparent. It's nice for skintones and botanicals, and can work like any transparent yellow, but I don't think to use it much as I have other transparent yellows. The other DS colors from this selection I use are Transparent Pyrrol Orange, Organic Vermillion and Lemon Yellow which are all very useful transparent colors, and Naples Yellow (a nice neutral). I'd like to get Aussie Red Gold which looks like sunset in a bottle from my sample.

I don't buy many mixes, but sometimes companies have really nice ones that are unique to them. Aussie Red Gold is one of these... a really wonderful color, a very pleasing orange, and on cellulose paper it separates beautifully! It's got a bit of opacity from the PY3. Oh and a sunset was the first thing I ever painted with it.

I won't use any fake cadmium colors. I do love DS though. I use many of his other colors.

Welcome back and I hope you had a wonderful break. Thanks for all the content you put out, because it's really helpful. It's enjoyable seeing you swatch again. I pretty much stay with PY97, PY150, PY65, Aussie red gold, and Perm Orange. Oranges are great for making natural greens. I think Paint in hiding mentioned Mijello? Cobalt yellow as being granulating? I have not tried it out yet. I'd also like to try Schmincke's Volcano Yellow (PY159) I've yet to see a granulating yellow so I find it interesting. Oh. I didnt see Nickel Azo Yellow PY150 in your swatches. TFS. 😃

Thank you for this. I was about to order some supplies and was waffling between a few shades. Transparent Pyrrol Ornage and Lemon Yellow are what I'm looking for and I'm adding buff titanium, because I can see that being useful.

Thank you for swatching all those colors. My favorite yellows are Py154 (which DS doesn’t seem to offer) and Py151. I’m not sure, if it is due to the dot card or my be the my screen, but the Schmincke versions seems to be a lot stronger. And I substitutes the Cadmium for me quite nicely. I like many DS colors, but in the yellow department they are not to strong for my preferences. Also I don’t understand, why there is N/A for the Mayan Orange. They must know what they used to make the color. ? Or is there some reason behind it, that I don’t know. Thanks again!!!

Of course they know what they used, but if there's no pigment number it's because no pigment number has been assigned sometimes because the color has been patented by some pigment company. Mayan Orange uses MayaCrom® Orange OR2800 (www.artiscreation.com/orange.html#mayanorange). The other Mayan colors have been assigned pigment colors, not sure why this one hasn't been assigned--maybe it will be once the patent runs out. Mayan Dark Blue is PB82, Mayan Red is PR287, Mayan Violet is PV58, Mayan Yellow is PY223.
