I think it's because Eren gave her only these two options.He didn't just ask how she felt about him. I think he wanted to prepare for the lie that he would tell her about her slave nature and that he hated her. Her answer was good because she indicated that there were many reasons why she wanted to protect him💕- family. Not only the one she is required to. That is why Eren said that the real Mikasa died at the moment her parents died and she obeyed his instructions. Asking her in chapter 123 he wanted to know if it was true. However, she answered differently. But to protect her - he probably had to lie to her and hurt her knowing otherwise. That's how I see it. Sorry for my English 😅

Funny how now, this ship is canon.

I guess what am I about to say could be a spoiler so... spoiler alert. This is a very subtle thing that has been happening on the show but have you noticed that whenever Mikasa calls out to him, he snaps out of his thoughts, immediately. At 2:51 when Mikasa called out to Eren, I thought that the POV scene was very interesting, usually in romance anime’s they use that POV when a character is starting to fall for another character. In the manga when Eren told Mikasa he hated her and started to beat up Armin, Mikasa told him to stop and he really did...I feel like that could be symbolizing that Mikasa is the only one who can stop Eren. That plus in the Lost Girls ova, Grisha was talking with Mikasa and he said “Perhaps you are the only one able to protect Eren from that great power” Eren said that a great power is what will kill you, that’s one of the reasons why I think Eren has a chance of living in the end

For all saying that mikasa protected eren more and eren did only hated her. Mikasa only protected eren from female titan, armoured titan etc from dying And eren also saved her many times Ex from kidnappers, when he 1st time become a titan, when he becomes titan 2nd time, in court, when building is falling, when he uses his coordinate power. So both can do anything to protect each other. So dont say only mikasa protects him.

Thanks to the manga readers who hid spoilers, as an anime watcher, I get so annoyed by everyone spoiling things. Wow there's just so much Eremika evidence! All I want is for Eren to confess to Mikasa that he's always loved her and he wishes things were different. I know she probs already knows he does even if he never says it, but I think it will be good memento for her since I'm pretty sure he'll die before she does as he's a shifter and only has so long to live, even if there wasn't a war going on. Like just a scene where he's dying in her arms and they're embracing and kissing and he's telling her he loves her, he's always loved her, and that he wants her to life a long fulfilling life and he's grateful for her love. Please, give me this at least, before this ship goes down...
