As somebody who lives in a city with a large presence of bikers, many use fake plates and carry real ones with them solely so they can try and get out of the ticket by using this very excuse. They do this to avoid tolls, tolls around here are 2-4 dollars a piece and you can go through 5 of them in a 10 minute drive

A lot of people swap plates at meets so people can share their pictures online without doxxing them. You can get alot of info from a license plate number with a simple background check so as someone who is an online influencer the same goes for them. You don't want some random person showing up at your house because you said something they disagree with online.

This happens all the time. It’s just that occasionally there will be a poor interaction, sometimes due to the driver, sometimes due to the officer. Those are the ones that get posted. There are over 400,000 officers in the US. Even if you gather up all the poor interactions between LEOs and the public, it would still be less than 1% of all interactions. Unfortunately, we as the public love drama. So that is what is typically given to us.

It's about safety and privacy at events like that. The bike would look better with something in the place of a plate, rather than nothing. It'd go the same way with cars too. On video games it’s just to make it harder for other players to target you, for real life events like car meets it’s so someone doesn’t get all the info from your plate and is able to track you down. It’s a simple swap, how many times have you forgotten to do something rather simple tho? Lol people make mistakes, and this is a rather minuscule one considering he has his real plate still on him nicely packed, and still didn’t make an escape attempt whilst maintaining a calm demeanor. Even if he was planning on committing a crime there’s no further evidence or apparent suspicious activity in question to suggest an allegation of criminal intent being perpetuated by the individual in question.

It's not like this would allow him to for example run over somebody without any possibility to identify him since we can assume he was also wearing a helmet. Plates exist for a reason. I agree with you that police should deal with the worse crimes and of course even emphasize those but that's what you get when you cry to defund the police. Also you decide do only go after murderers (or that category/intensity of crime) and let "smaller" crimes like theft for example go unpunished you end up with hellholes like California.

​@@DocFloppy86 He also stated he was at a meet where, presumably, people were taking pictures of the bike. Having fake plates on the bike will make pictures look nicer and prevent people from being able to obtain his private information.

Also not legal since California isn’t a stop and ID state. If I were the rider, I immediately would’ve asked for his sergeant, as well as this officers name and badge number.
