It "drips" 8 perfect copies of itself every 9 days, with every duplicate being the same size and shape of the original, however only the original Draupnir will ever replicate itself. In the game, Brok and Sindri took back the ring from Odin and use it to craft Kratos' spear which takes the magical effects of Draupnir and the power of wind to allow him to create a spear and remotely detonate them on a whim. Kratos' can uses the ring to create infinite copies of the spears and summon a weapon to his hand instantaneously so long as he wears the ring.

Ok i gotta give kudos to the developers here. Kratos has had some crazy weapons but their functions were all somewhat established in the mythos. That someone on the team found an obscure bit of norse lore (Draupnir) and thought lets make this into a weapon is amazing.
The spear is important for Kratos as a character, it is literally the first significant weapon Kratos has received that is solely his own… The blades were forced onto him as a sign of his slavery to Ares, the axe was given to him by his wife. But this spear, is just..his…no one else’s…it’s not a heirloom, nor a binding token, it’s just his own weapon, and is a reflection of who he was before becoming a god, and who he is now as a reformed god.

its also because it can duplicate, heimdall is not only dealing with a weapon that he doesnt fully understand, but its also one that demands he split his focus on, which is straight up a hard counter to him, given he reads minds, so he has too many things to pay attention too and it allows kratos to land the hits needed to fully throw him off.
@charliecomer6001

That and kratos is still holding back, combined with just how much heimdall relied on his power. Kratos has dealt with arguably faster opponents than heimdall, so there is the possibility that he's DELIBERATELY going slow to test heimdalls reaction speed. Notice how during phase 1, kratos moves a little faster each time heimdall is stunned, up to the point where he actually had to BLOCK, meaning kratos had the ability to strike him.

I think I've figured out how the spear was supposed to help kill Heimdall. Since Heimdall can read minds, he could dodge any attack that came his way, unless Kratos somehow got lucky with a hit. But Draupnir's enchantment meant that he had too much to focus on and couldn't read Kratos' mind properly during his fight.

@@potatochicko I think it's because Kratos doesn't "think" of exploding the spear, instead he "feels" it. Since the Draupnir spear is bound to him by blood, he can command it at will. @@Pattabazza I can’t ignore the coincidences. According to the Wiki: Odin (/ˈoʊdɪn/;[1] from Old Norse: Óðinn, IPA: [ˈoːðenː]) is a widely revered god in Germanic paganism. Norse mythology, the source of most surviving information about him, associates him with wisdom, healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, war, battle, victory, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet, and depicts him as the husband of the goddess Frigg. A lot of what gets associated in Odin can be reinterpreted as something Kratos has acquired in ways coincidentally like Odin did in mythology. -Speaks to the Head of Mimir (who is his adviser) and was directly responsible for bringing Mimir back to life -Is implied to be marrying Freya at the end of Ragnarok, meaning he is ALSO “marrying Frigg” -carries a spear whose functions are suspiciously similar to Gungnir’s legendary effects -also carries Draupnir ring -he collects poetry -he leads the Vanir and Aesir to true coexistence Among many other deeds. I would argue that Kratos CAN be Odin. Or is, by historical or mythological misinterpretation. A common theme throughout both games is that what is remembered by history is often a distortion of the true story of the events, warped by time and retellings both benign and malicious. The irl Norse Lore as well has many missing pieces of its Prose Edda and Poetic Eda due to Time and other misinterpretations clouding the details. So saying, Kratos could fit right in to the mythos and assume the best parts of Odin’s lore while being mistaken for Odin if the writers choose to have him there. As for the matter of Farbauti, the giants named him that as well as naming Atreus “Loki,” as you said. This does not stop Farbauti from being Kratos (or vice versa), or Atreus from being Loki (or vice versa). Nor would it stop the two from being named other things, or assuming other titles. As a matter of fact, a mere three names is NOTHING compared to IRL Odin. Odin in mythology famously has a ridiculously long list of names attributed to him (seriously, check out the wiki and type “List of Odin’s Names,” and see how long it takes to scroll down), all attributed to deeds he did, nicknames he acquired, or identities he assumed as a traveler. Kratos can likewise have more than one title or name, as well as multiple roles in this story. And I will argue one of those roles IS Odin. Inheriting his role as All-Father, leader of Aesir and Vanir, uniter of worlds and new commander of the Einherjar, Valkyries, and the new world, Kratos has everything lined up to step into the role as the new Odin.

"I do not know, you were not there to ask" Shows that kratos only relied on Atreus when it comes to norse legends. That and he is so introverted.
1:06 I like how there's a hint of smugness in Kratos' voice when saying "a spear" to Freya
i'm sure for a spartan spear and shield are like a bicycle. you'll never forget how to use it.
I like to think that Draupnir spear as Kratos's true weapon in the norse era of God of War. While Kratos will always cherish the Leviathan Axe (as it was the weapon of his beloved wife) and has begrungingly accepted the Blades of Chaos as a part of himself (as well as not being able to get rid of them), the Draupnir spear is the weapon that is the most fitting for Kratos himself. As a spear it serves a symbol of his spartan heritage, as it the weapon all spartans learn to use, and resembles the Arms of Sparta, another spear that symbolizes Kratos's homeland. Additonally, the Draupnir Spear, compliments his Gaurdian Shield, given it's resemblance to an aspis shield, a greek sheild that was often paired with a spear.
I was shocked when the abilities were revealed with it- I was 1000% expecting it to be a spear that could extend and retract magically and infinitely, a la Jingu Ban in line with allusions to other gods, relics and pantheons. The multiplication and exploding was such a shock, but Draupnir immediately became one of the top fictional weapons I would want.
"Off your back!" Man, reminds me of when Kratos told Deimos that "Spartans do not let their back hit the ground."
I like how they gave him the ability to summon that spear to give him an excuse to throw infinite spears like in God of War 1.
When we first got it, I thought this would be like the old god of war games, where we get a new weapon and then immediately go back to the blades because we've dunped so many upgeade points in them that they're really the only way to stay current with the enemies. But the spear becomes... really useful. Especially against single enemy combat.

5:26 “Oh wait. You expected the sti-💥”
"I am no one's champion but his" holy shit dad of the century.
4:12 “a spartan warrior never lets his back hit the ground”
Everybody else: Woah cool spear with wind powers! Heimdall: Hmmmm... *STICK*
SPARTANS! WHAT ARE YOUR PROFESSION?!
THE Draupnir Spear
the minute i get this im never using another weapon
The only Ring of Power I care to watch
3:56 I love the sass Kratos gives Atreus
Heimdall: *catches spear* Nice stick lmao Kratos: Wanna see a magic trick?
if you throw draupnir a bunch while fighting in the realm between realms when atreus gets back, he also remarks "How many of those things do you have?"
The Draupnir spear is dripping
Kratos was damn excited 0:40
the nature of Draupnir replication leads to multiple probabilities which Heimdall might not be able to foresee like one can be thrown , one can be stabbed , one can explode , one can slash etc...
It is so good especially in the dlc because you can get some op ass upgrades on it
Brok’s masterpiece was key to breaking prophesy. Screw the fish lady. Brok is the best.
Mimirs worry was warranted tho. You can't deny it.
At 1:49 "To protect Atreus, I'm nobodies champion except his" ........Kratos he's a giant
The popping back to the hands so he can double hand stab Again is beautiful brutality 4:38
Brok: "Just like old times then!" Mimir: "Couldn't have put it more _forebodingly_ myself." 💀
Freyas reaction differs whether you use the spear during the fight before
4:11 A Spartan never lets his back hit the ground. Right, Brother?
the sound design for this weapon is fucking MONEY
I like the idea that his new spear is, unlike his past cursed weapons or those he takes from others, was forged explicitly for him.

@@edberaga no it's wind brok literally put wind on his magical bag when they're making their way to the lady
The Blades of Chaos represent his past and rage. The Leviathan Axe represents his love and devotion. The Drapunir Spear represents his honor and future.
Tbh before i knew where that spear came from i thought it was a spartan spear that somehow managed to end up there
I see everyone talking about how Draupnir is the first weapon that's really his... but more than that, symbolically, it's the fusion of his old life and new. A spear, the Spartan's weapon, the blood of an Olympian. Draupnir, the Norse ring of bounty, the blessings of Brok. Together, combined into something unique, a middle road, the perfect blend of who he was and the people who have changed him.
My favourite scene from this game is crafting the spear.
Bring back old spear arm sparta
