Wow, didnt see that parallel. When Kratos was telling that story, it's pretty dreadful to think he was the one who killed hephastus, essentially, Kratos understands now or rather is almost sounding remorseful for it and is owning up to it kinda. Another essential take to his arc as a character in these games. Amazing writing and fanfair.

@@giagarex yes, he did respect Athena until The Evils of Pandora's Box corrupted her with Greed and she tricked him so she could be The Sole Ruler of Greece. Which was why in some ways Kratos mentioned to Freya and Mimir that War Deities shouldn't be highly praised because of him being used by Ares and then Athena when they were talking about Tyr.

Finally Deimos got a huge name drop and exposition. I feel like he is a big part of Kratos story and never gets the spotlight because GoS was a spin off game, for the PSP, but he got quite a well deserved exposure here

He was a selectable skin on GoW3 but you'd need to have owned GoS (IIRC). Was really fun to clear all of the game as Deimos and especially when Zeus told (to Gaia) that she should've chosen the "other one" lol

Yeah. I also think why he's talking about his past is because at this point in time, almost every god in norse mythology knows of Kratos too for most part. Although, I do think that he's being more open to relate to Freya, Atreus, and Mimir. Fascinating stuff really, how he mentions to Freya about how he was tricked into killing his family, let alone became the embodiment of their ashes. Also how he talks about how he used to have a brother too. Pretty cool stuff ngl

Literally one of the best dialogue callbacks to previous GOW games. On top of that, just imagine in Kratos' whole arsenal, if he kept the Bow of Apollo specifically so he gives it to Atreus. He'd be too op with it or seeing Kratos continue to use the Wings of Icarus, the game will be a lot shorter if he still had those

He left his God Slaying Sword that was last holding his power on top of Mount Olympus. I wonder if their will ever be a game that involves getting it back. Pretty sure it’d bring Kratos back to GOW3 levels of power if he ever got it back and it would be neat to see what’s happening with Athena and the God’s he let live are doing

@@LETHALHAMBURGER well, after killing Clotho Kratos had control of not only his thread of life, but also everyone else's. He could've killed everyone in his path and even see his own future. Also, one of the reasons I believe he cannot be killed is because Atropos is dead, thus there's no one to cut his thread of life.

Oh my! Does that mean Greek Gods are more powerful after all? They do have haxs like fate and time manipulation. Magic so powerful Nordics can't help but to feel jealous of.

4:10 I kind of adore the subtlety of this statement. Freya swore pure and utter revenge against Kratos for killing her son, promising every agony possible. In this moment, not only does she realize that Kratos understands that exact emotion but that it is the very thing that made him unfathomably infamous. Freya just realized that Kratos DID exact his revenge on those that killed his daughter. He destroyed ALL OF OLYMPUS and DEALT EVERY AGONY IMAGINABLE on them. Freya made furious threats that Kratos had already followed through on and regrets to this day. He has wisdom beyond her that she HAS to respect.

There is another Greek reference in this game, while hearing the story of how Frayer while being a guest to the Aesiers almost got him burned by them, Kratos gets surprised/offended after hearing that story because in greek tradition treating your guest horribly can bring bad omen to you.

Xenia (hospitality) was one of the virtues Greek respected the most. Sure Vikings can kill the offending host but xenia for Greeks were more than that. If a stranger shows up, before they even ask him where one is from. The host would give them food and a shower before conversating with the stranger.

There is also another one where Kratos found a harp from Greece. Mimir asks if Kratos can play it, he says yes. Then he asks if he will play it, he says no.

At least we learned why Kratos didn’t keep the powers he had. When Greece was destroyed most of the magic of it died too. So Kratos only retained his strength and endurance and his blades retain their magic likely because it was infused into it.

Well we don't really know much about the Blades of Chaos only that Ares forged them so its possible he used primoridial fire from the Norse lands. It would explain how Surtur used their magic and why it was still around ever after Greece was destroyed, and since their origins were told in the first game its possible they may have just retconned them. I mean the first game was meant to be the only one since Kratos was watching over all mankinds war includeing the modern World Wars.

@@digitaladventurer2142 Except two things to contradict it. One Brok called them reeking of foreign magic. Two Freya said no magic in all of the Nine Realm could cause a blaze in Helheim. So maybe Primordial forces are similar between Pantheons. So while Kratos’ blades aren’t of the Nine Realms the fire magic in them is similar to the same primordial fire magic in Muspellheim.

Atleast they gave an explanation as to why kratos can't use magic anymore. In the old Greek novels kratos was capable of using magic and spells in the actual lore for gow. I remember in the gow comic based on after kratos became the god of war, he cast a spell that summoned the heat of the sun and used it to vaporize an island sized titan. Atleast they explain why he only has super strength and no other powers. I always thought kratos could learn Freya's magic or Odin's magic but now they explained he literally can't cast spells because of Olympus being destroyed

No only the powers he gained from Greece. He can’t use the power he gained over his years in Greece. As Freya said Magic is bound to the earth. So when Greece and it’s gods destroyed their power vanished. And Kratos likely wouldn’t want to learn Vanir magic as Atreus and Freya already know it. And I would see him having the discipline but not the patience to want to sit down and learn it.

15:53 is genius. Because it's a commentary on both the way that Greek plays were told in a single time in a single place, but also the game itself, which also takes place in one long take.

3:20 Freya had no idea what kratos had done with her previous family. Especially calliope. Not only did he kill her, but pushed her away when they were in paradise to stop persephone. Forever forsaking her to the point she doesn't even play the flute he made for her anymore. That was one of the hardest things I saw kratos do. Because his actions did save Olympus and the gods, and also paradise so that her soul would be safe, and yet it was for nought because they betrayed him. Honestly kratos didn't deserve such pain. Unlike Freya, kratos knows more of the pain of losing your loved ones then she did.

You know it's a dumb idea but it be nice if Artemis showed up, she must have survived the fall of Greece and if there was a god who could find Kratos it would be the god of the hunt.

Theirs a lot of minor Gods Kratos didn’t kill, even Aphrodite and Athena are still alive but theirs a bunch of minor gods he never encountered. I wonder how they’re all holding up, if they managed to bring Greece back or if not how their managing with its wreckage. He left his God Killing Sword on Mount Olympus that was holding his power, so their is reason to go back if they ever want to take it. Edit: I said the wrong goddess

We have green bar for health Red for Spartan rage Would really love to see Kratos somehow bring back magic attacks from previous games especially, exile Spartan magic attack, rage of Poseidon and Zeus's thunder bolts, then we would have a blue bar underneath the Spartan rage bar, would be so cool man

Kratos actually had far more magic than just that if you read the novel. He was stripped of it by Zeus when Zeus attacked him in his spirit form and kratos stabbed himself with blade of Olympus imbuing the remaining power he had in it and shooting it into the sky leaving him with only his super strength and durability.

Hearing Kratos stories about his past right from him is what I wanted from the beggining of the 2018...it feels more personal when you realised, your were part of his past

I love the environmental storytelling when Odin confronts Kratos after the spear is made Kratos can be seen openly holding the spear. His intent clear and open while Odin stand in front of and between two spears. Showing that he speaks but hides his intent. That intent always bringing ruin to those in his way. Then, when he speaks about Loki/Atreus he picks up a set of tongs and talks like he's proud of what he's had Loki/Atreus achieve, as if he is a tool to be used. Then he throws the tongs to the side, showing that he has no regard for the things he uses. All the while lying through his teeth. And lying to himself

Bro I love these references so much especially when Kratos mentioned Deimos...all these references are bringing up so much nostalgia and memories from my childhood of playing these games man...

Yep he calls him brother or mirmir now and he only calls atreus boy I think once in the entire game

We watched him grow from a savage beast to a man who shares his years worth of wisdom to those who need it. I'm diggin the growth of Kratos, they really added a whole new dimension to this character.

That scene where Odin poked at Kratos's godhood is ironic. All of Sparta prayed to him for victory, and for salvation when Zeus attacked them. He cared about his people, the Spartans, for his family, both old and new, and his friends. And after he was tricked into killing his wife and daughter he rarely killed without reason. Most of his kills were because they obstructed his quest for revenge.

Intill the end of god of war 2 where he was finally pushed over the edge when Athena got killed, to then have him commit some awful deeds without any good reason. Biggest example being posidens wife.

Kratos: "The blacksmith died trying to protect his daughter..." Atreus: "Who killed him?" Kratos: "Me."

@@wisekong6371 he was afraid that kratos would try and kill his daughter Pandora, so he tried to kill him. Unfortunately, hephaestus gave kratos a weapon right before that could absorb the electricity he was zapping kratos with.

I wish they'd release the OG games on steam. I'd love to burn olympus to the ground before I finish up 2018 and eventually Ragnarok when it too will eventually hit steam in a few years. I'm not buying a console for 1 game but again... I'd love to experience the rest of the series myself.

You know I’m actually surprised no one ever mentioned or asked about one of the times he did die in the previous games.

"It is greek tradition for a story to unfold in a single time and place, uninterrupted". I love this detail, because _the games follow this rule too._ Both Norse GoW games are one continuous cut, as we learn is greek tradition; never switching cameras or fading to black as other games are prone to.

Wow Nice I am so glad There are references of Kratos telling his greek story His Brother Deimos His Daughter Calliope He was tricked by Ares into killing his wife and daughter

Gosh, I love all these callbacks to games all across the God of War series. It's so heartwarming and nostalgic.

for those who haven't gottent he dialogue about his favorite poem at the end - he says its the Odyssey and the tale of Odeseus' journey home

One of the best parts of this masterpiece is how Kratos has matured so much to the point that he not only remembers the names of and every encounter with all of his companions and enemies he met in Norway, but also shares his most dreaded parts of his life with them.

So, apparently, it is canon that Kratos fought against Shovel Knight (an indie game character from a game of the same name) inbetween GOW 3 and 4. Would've been nice to see if Kratos recalled that memory.

Glad to know that Kratos' storytelling skills have improved

It’s occurred to me when listening to this that whilst everyone knows Kratos killed the Greek Pantheon, but nobody really knows why he did it

I have yet come across a conversation about him facing the Shovel Knight and according to the makers of God Of War that fight is canon lol

In case anyone is wondering the tale of the Theban king is the tale of Oedipus which is about….uh….look it up and you can cuss me out later if you want to

I love how everyone walks on egg shells around kratos except those that call him they're friends they're just used to his undercover brutality doesn't even surprise them lol

The callbacks to the previous games are so great. Shows how much Kratos has grown from his past, and the insurmountable chellenges he had to overcome.

i like how now he talks of hephaestus with utter respect, he always understood his point of view although in his rage he didnt care, even more so now that he understands why hephaestus fought him. he regrets many of those kills, deeming them unnecessary even.

Your dedication on spreading information about the game is absolutely treasurable. Thank you for your work and may your hard work blooms even more

In the playstation version of shovel knight kratos makes an appearance Gow Director Cory barlog confirmed this as being canon in the Gow universe and yacht club games confirmed this as canon in the shovel knight universe

It’s funny when oden and kratos speaks, Odin mentions a key to peace. Kratos experienced a little someone who was also a key 👀👀. Also when Odin asks if they ever have metaphors in his homeland. It was funny cuz Metaphors is a word that originated from Greece.🤣

Given his knowledge, Odin could have been actually referencing the Laconian region where Sparta was as the Spartans were traditionally more focused on war than philosophy or debate.

They were talking about kratos actual magic. Did you forget that kratos could actually cast spells when he was younger ? Read the novel. The mf knew a shit ton of magic but he lost it all in gow 3. The creators of gow 3 didn't allow him to use all of his magic because the player would be too op so they just didn't add it but in the lore he still had alot of spells he could use until they were stripped from him at the end of gow 3 by the spirit of Zeus. He gained a more powerful magical power after which was the power of hope but kratos ended up giving that up as well

Dialogs like these make following the character in their entirety alot more interesting, I loved the mortal kombat reference

I played god of war when I was 9 years old and watching the journey of kratos from psp to ps5 been crazy and him opening up about his past and the ending made me shed a tear. A truly beautiful story
