When Beauden Barrett hangs up the All Blacks boots he will have cemented his place as a true All Blacks great. Amazing overall skills. Speed, Try scoring, passes, off loads, kicks for outside backs. He does it all.

Idk why Dagg isn’t really talked about today maybe because he just retired a few years ago but he was literally as good as prime Cullen. The try where he cuts through the line, gets to the outside and twists mid fall to get the offload off to Nonu while about 3 inches off the ground with perfect accuracy was quite literally one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen on a rugby field.

If the first one is the one I'm thinking - the try was actually scored by Dagg. Nonu was brilliant in that passage though: broke a tackle, lost a boot, and still made a perfectly weighted pass for Dagg to score. Rather soured John Smit's centurion test on that occasion :)

I think people forget about Inga the winger - he was before Lomu and whilst he didn't become the global superstar, he was maybe one of our earlier - you can have a giant colossus with speed on the wing and use them to smash up the middle as well as scare these little, fast, nippy wingers etc. Then we lost him to league... And Cullen, best of all time? I'd say so.

The mighty All Blacks have scored so many incredible tries, really tough to rate the best, but I reckon that "set piece" try in Wellington against the Wallabies (when John Eales broke our hearts in extra time) was the most beautiful that I have ever seen. Wayne Smith take a bow. Those Christian Cullen tries against Scotland and the Wallabies were mind-blowing! I'm an Australian and despite the All Blacks' continuing dominance over The Wallabies, I gotta admit that the All Blacks at their best are as good as Rugby gets. Australia during the eighties and nineties had some of the best backlines ever but over all the Kiwis get the prize. Kirwan was fantastic and though he stood Campese up numerous times, he would swap them all to have stopped the brilliant subtle move Campo put on him in the 1991 World Cup semi-final!

Yeah that 1980 Wallaby backline is one of the best I have ever seen. Everyone goes on about Gregan and Larkham backline but they would not even come close to that 1980 backline - Cox, Ella, Hawker, O'Connor, Moon, Martin and Gould! These guys were to slick!

@@thefobbie0034 Yes, the Ellas completely innovated in backline play, and that backline cut the opposition apart in the Grand Slam tour. But I reckon the backline of Nick Farr-Jones, Lynagh, Little, Horan, Campo and whoever else came close to the best of all time.

@@stuartleslie5421 - Yes I am aware of the 91-94 Wallaby backline however they got destroyed by the All Black backline on the AB 92 tour to Australia! Frank Bunce single-handedly destroyed that Horan-Little combination with his tackling! Little completely lost his confidence during that tour - was not the same player! For me the 1980 backline is probably the best backline ever but there are others to contend with: a) 71 Bok backline b) 69-73 Welsh backline c) 74-75 All Black backline d) 1980-84 Wallaby backline e) 1984-1990 French backline f) 1987-1990 All Black backline g) 1984-86 Bok backline h) 1991-93 Wallaby backline i) 1995-97 All Black backline Sorry but I am a big fan of that 1980 Wallaby backline - and that was the secondary school backline that had Wally Lewis as the back-up to Mark Ella!

  • @stuartleslie5421

    @stuartleslie5421

@@thefobbie0034 Fair enough. Bunce was like getting hit by a lump of concrete. The Ella brothers were plucked out of Randwick's 4th grade to play against the unbeaten Sydney Uni, and Randwick smashed them. Mark Ella said nobody knew how to play backline before they came along. Wrap-arounds, loops, full backs and inside backs coming round to hit the line from different angles and creating extra men --- that didn't really exist before the Ellas. Video of the Grand Slam tour is still classic. The Northern Hemisphere sides had no idea what was going on. Changed the game. And Hawker, O'Connor and Gould were all brilliant in their roles.

His ability to direct his team around the park is why that All Black team was undefeated from May 1987 to July 1990 - NO other All Black team has done that! The only reason why they lost was because the arrogance and politics that harmed that team from within - they should have won the 1991 World Cup! Fox knew when to go for territory and when to run it and he was always spot on with his tactics! This present AB team could learn a lesson from Fox because running the ball to score tries from inside your own half let alone you own 22 is causing us to lose games!

Early tries great to see again. Later tries a little boring. Inter teams like S.A & Aust are so weak. You can reply saying things like "Ireland or S,A won in 2017 or whatever. But, the next test the AB's win by 54-12.

Would be more apt to call it Best since the late 80s. Not all time. The title makes it sound like earlier tries were average.

Yeah there is a lot of better tries missing prior to 1999: Mourie's try vs Wales 1980 Hika Reid's try vs Wallabies 1980 Kirkpatrick try vs Lions 1971 Joe Morgan vs Boks 1976 Hewson try vs Boks 1981 There are plenty more!

NZ hasn't just done it on other people's talent, we've done it on being innovative and competitive. You could have lots of those Samoan players in a team together and get flogged every week if they're not coached well or aren't happy with management (as has been the case with the Samoan team most of the last few years)

During the 60s, 70s and 80s there was a massive migration of pacific islanders to NZ to find a better life! All these pacific island players are from choices made by their parents or grand-parents especially in their hard work to educate their kids! These players were able to thrive in a NZ rugby system that developed their talent - NOT in the islands!

Strange. I saw most of these games on TV and I don't remember the picture quality being so bloody awful. Too bad the archives these moments were taken from don't go back a little further, or we might have seen tries like Ian Kirkpatrick's at Lancaster Park in 1971, or Hika Reid's at Ballymore in 1980. Just sayin'...

That Hika Reid try 2nd test 1980 at Ballymore SHOULD be on this list - that was a outstanding try! Better than a lot of tries on this video! The 1971 Kirkpatrick try from the lineout on the halfway shows of Kirkpatrick's athleticism!

What's with the lying thumbnail of the Lions leading 9-6 in the 80th minute? Lmao. It was 14-0 early in the 2nd half when that try happened

a good selection of fullbacks, for sure. However i had to note the disdain you openly expressed for the personal views of Folau. Your obvious support of gays pushed into our faces has no more merit than the opposite views from Folau - it was hypocrisy at best and has no place in such a show as this!
