In these All Along The Watchtower guitar lesson videos you will learn how to play one of Jimi Hendrix's most beloved songs note-for-note!
It was released on The Jimi Experience's final album of new material Electric Ladyland in September 1968.
This song has it all from cool chord lead style rhythm guitar parts to half a dozen solos. There is something in this song for every player to learn from.
In the All Along The Watchtower guitar lesson videos you will slowly be taken through all of the sections that make up this classic rock masterpiece. There are five videos in all including the full performance video.
So take your shot at learning one of Jimi Hendrix's finest moments then go to the full performance video and play along. The entire performance and note-for-note lessons are done in standard tuning as opposed to Hendrix's original half step down tuning. That way, everyone can learn the song without having to re-tune their guitars. A real life saver for any player with a Floyd Rose.
This one is an all-time classic. I hope you have as much fun playing it as I did. Cheers!! :D

don't just tell yourself your going to practice 1-3 hours a day, if you really want to learn this song I promise you will be motivated to nail it, learning shouldn't be looked at like work or a burden because you could be doing something else, and even if your a beginner anything is possible with enough practice! A quick tip: If you are using an acoustic and the barre chords on higher frets are becoming an issue, just use the voicings; like we know how to play A major in standard, play the same but this time, index finger spanning over the 2nd fret and so on.

Yes, Dylan wrote it. But he specifically gave it to Jimi to play as he saw fit, because he just knew what a fantastic job Jimi would do with this piece. And Dylan sure got that exactly right.

I think that should always be covered in a lesson especially if you are going to go into enough depth that the guitar is tuned down a step, you should touch on what pedals or amp adjustments could be used to get close to the sound of the song. No it does not have to be exact but something would be nice. Great lesson though, you are one of the best on KZread as far as I am concerned.

AndréA Klass The truth is practice makes perfect. Hendrix took his guitar everywhere with him, And always had it in hand. It's the same reason why bruce Lee was so good at martial arts. Bruce Lee would practice/train non stop. Even while watching t.v he would shadow box, Or do push ups. I feel like it's insulting to say they are just talented. Because majority of people who knew or lived with Hendrix (like ronnie wood) Say he practically slept with his guitar. So in other words.... Practice, Practice, Practice.

I believe the first set of 5 bends on the 14th fret, second string should be a set of 4 bends (and maybe a pause?) instead. Listen to the original song and let me know what you think. I apologise if my terminology is false as I am a total noobie. Great tutorial btw. It's very useful that you played the whole thing slowly in the end.

+Necratos Yea my acoustic is the same, you just have to be very precise with finger placement, it is harder but doable!

Actually it is 5, if you count the "pre bend" note... think that's what got him a bit confused during the lesson (the guy's a great player and I'm sure it would be spot on in performances)

I wonder why you couldn't just play a half step down, are there open strings involved?

Except for the funky melody, you can play this on an acoustic. So happy, but does anyone have suggestions for a good electric guitar? Thanks.

+The Lone Hunt depends on what you like and what fits you. For a hendrix sound and a small price the stratocasters from squier are a really good deal. but i'd recommend you testing several in a local shop to find out if they fit you.

You think you can learn it about like 2 weeks if you practice maybe 1-3 hours a day? Because im going to play for some teachers at a Highs School of Music, I'm Swedish, and I really need to learn this song so I can get in, because if this song doesn't impress the teachers, nothing does! So do you think I can learn it? I've played guitar before, but then I quited and now I started again, I'm like a beginner, I know shredding and tapping very well, but do you think a "beginner" can learn it?
