Brace height and checking that every time is so so soooo important. I can see a difference on my grouping if its just 3 mm off. And when you tune do you like tightening or losening the string from the small og big loop in the string?

Good day Henry Bodnik, recently purchased slick stick bow, love it... The recommended brace height is between 7 and 7 1/2, is this what you recommend, my draw length this shorter at 26 1/2, does draw length matter? My bow is 45#. Thank you for your outstanding work. ps, was thinking on getting the quick stick or slick stick recurve next, I have smaller grip size, what would you prefer?

Thanks Henry, that was very clearly explained. My first Slickstick (45#) was great at the recommended brace height. My second (40#) was noisy. After much experimentation, at higher brace heights, I tried going lower. At 6 & 1/2 inches it was perfect, with both speed and target penetration increased. The second bow also performed better at 6 & 1/2 inches, with target penetration significantly increased. The 40# is slim and fast, the 45# (with high FOC arrows (200 - 250 gr piles)) punches way above its weight and would really do for light hunting, should the need arise. I am currently waiting for a Segye from Alibow, but plan to buy a Horseman as soon as you release an ambidextrous model. Unless I find a cheap left hand model for thumb release. Any chance of stainless half out inserts for Easton / Penthalon shafts?

Thanks for your very detailed comment and feedback. Great to reed you successful process setting up the brace hight. Of course lower brace hight is incresing energy transport to the arrow. As long limbs will get stable soon after the release lower brace hight is okay. Already thinking about a traditional horsebow model. But not in process right now. Just check our Partizan carbon arrows. Thinner diameter and a 100 gr. brass insert! A great combination. Check for HB Partizan Extreme carbon shafts

When you measure brace height, do you go to the middle of the string? I purchased your Mohawk longbow a couple years ago, and it is one sweet shooter..

I have your Mohawk Hybrid Longbow... with the 17" riser. Can you tell me what the proper brace height is suppose to be? Mine is the Smoke Wood riser, and natural color limbs. Very nice. I only use the 35lb. limbs... and I only shoot paper. Thank you for your videos !

Brand new stings( especially Dacron strings) can stretch after only 20-30 shots. Always a good idea to mesure this every once in a wile. A bow square is cheap and is convenient and quick to put to the bow inbetween shot volleys.

Just received my Quick Stick today from 3Rivers. Recommend brace hight is 7 1/4, when I strung the bow, the brace was 5”, is this normal? I put it to the recommended 7 1/4, is this common or is it possible that the string was miss marked just seams weird that it would need that much adjustment.

When I bought my Bodnik longbow the documentation said the brace hight was 7inches is this a different model or have you refined the brace hight from when they first came out . I absoulyly love shooting my bow and enjoy the videos and I would be most interested in your reply

gary watling 7 inches are fine. Prefer 1/8 less but most people can’t follow 6 7/8”

You know I bought a super shrew 2 without giving it a second thought just because it was built with rosewood. I been dreaming of building a horn bow made with rosewood under the impression that... like a bullet... an arrow could benefit from harmonics. I'm a noob to the archery world and I haven't shot since my childhood but I got so many questions for the builder of my bow (presuming the owner of this channel) the first being "did you choose rosewood specifically for it's potential for harmonics?" And if not do you you think there is potential for harmonics to affect archery in a positive or negative way (outside of potentially alerting game)?

Where are the Penthalon bows made can't find out anywhere? Just ordered a Creed.

I'm brand new to traditional archery, can anyone tell me if you have to twist the string every time you unstring/string the bow or will it stay in place?

Hello Dave, not all the time. String will stretch during the first 100 - 200 shoots. Depends on the material and craftmanship of the string. But will stay finaly stabil in length. But if you will take string down completely, of course you have to set up right brace hight of the bow every time.

Hello although the question is not about this bow .I have purchased the Bearpaw Mohecan recurve and brace height says 8" but the shop set to 7 1/2" saying this is where it should be as done many of these bows . Does it have to be 8" or could they be right is there a high and low measurement . Thankyou John

There is always a tolerance possible But my clear recommendation is 8” A lot of dealers don’t know about details

Latonro Archery using for my longbow spruce arrows

I just got a 50# quick stick it seems to like a 7.5” brace height. 3 rivers says the recommended brave height is 7 1/4 for it however

Thanks going with a Bodnik Bow. Brace hight of 7 1/4" normally working pretty fine. With a brace hight of 7 1/2 you will loose a bit energy because distance of speeding up the arrow will get shorter. But fine for the bow. Greetings from Germany

Think English is just fine. Difficult for us to provide every vid in spanish

Had to send back two Black Hunter longbows sold by Glurak on Amazon due to the brace height being 8.25" on one and 8.5" on the other. Factory spec is 7-7.8 inches. Then someone comment to twist the string, LOL, not knowing that would only compound the problem. Of course I could have bought a longer string but wasn't willing to do that since it was not sold as advertised.

Why do the brace hight change? When are the brace hight changing more? When are the brace hight changing less? ;)

Brace hight changing when using a new string. Basically it’s possible that length of the string is differing also after the first 100-300 shoots because of temperature and if the bow is stored strung.

A simple thing to do if you know how and why to do, all part of making your bow be the best that it can be for you. It is hard to be good with a bow that is not set up correctly.

No min gpp for all Bodnik Bows reccomended.

You showed the brace height for a bow with a cutout "pistol grip" which, pardon me, is NOT a "traditional" bow. A TRADITIONAL bow is one WITHOUT either a grip or arrow shelf cutout, i.e. an English longbow, Asian horse bow, or other type intended to be shot "off the knuckle". The way old-time archers determined the brace height of their bows was by use of "fistmele"; make a fist, stick the thumb out(like hitchhiking), and place the bottom of the fist on the belly of the bow about where the arrow will be placed. The correct brace height should have the string sitting on top of the thumb, or slightly above it

you're not using that measuring tool correctly. hold it up to a ruler you'll find the part you are using is not the "zero" line. your measurements are off by 1/8 inch.

Understand your feedback. But nearly all archers, bowyers and manufacturers of traditional bows using the tool this way. So in my opinion making senators go this way.
