All about cotton (carpet warp/rug warp)

In episode 3, I am presenting my favorite yarn! Like all things, it has distinctive pros & cons. But if you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it! Enjoy!

Found some carpet warp in a box of random yarn I bought at a fundraising event. Now I know how to use it.

I am learning so much. I bought a loom with some boxes of yarns. Now I can look at them and hopefully figure out what I have. Thank you!

Thank you! Here carpet warp is 12/6 and now I have to look at episode 2 to learn about yarn and numbers, I asked my mum and she did not know, only that for crochet she used 12/4 or 12/3 I have been looking at yarn online (there is no store selling weaving yarn where I live) since I want to weave towels after the warp that is on the loom is used up in my "getting to know" the loom weaving. My great worry is color bleeding - I have experience with that so I never knit red cotton, or black and shy away from other dark colors. Good to know that bleeding is better these days, still I have my guard up as my red and black bleeding experience back in 1989 is strong. Mercerized cotton for towels look great, but does not work well as mercerizing "closes" the yarn so drying something with those towels only make the water move around, I have knitted several towels and wash cloths and I started with mercerized and was so disappointed with the result - they look great but do not work as intended, on the positive side I have not experienced bleeding in mercerized cotton.

Hi Ann! I can definitely appreciate your apprehension with red and black! I highly recommend using a Shout Color Catcher to help pick up the extra dye. They're sort of magical! And thank you for sharing your experience with the mercerized cotton! When looking for something with great absorbancy, I can see how the treated fiber might miss the mark. Thanks so much!!

@@ActonCreative I hope we have something similar to Shout Color Catcher here, otherwise I will have to resort to the old trick with vinegar, maybe that will work - soak them in a bucket with maybe a 1/4 cup vinegar in before washing and it is said that excess color should not bleed.

I found Maysville cotton warp online, and I love the colors and the price... does anyone know if I can use it for knitting a blanket?

@@ActonCreative Thank you! I just wasn’t sure if it was scratchy or something, since the website mentioned it was best for rugs/more sturdy projects

@@valeriesollenberger2631 I've found that if you weave it tightly, it'll wash up stiff. So, just give it room and it'll be softer!
