Oss, Sensei Jason I had a question. Which kata is needed for green belt? I'm in orange belt rn but I got double promotion and it's only been a few months since I joined karate. I also wanted to know how many katas are needed for blackbelt. I'm in junior high school and was wondering if I could get black belt until I start university.

Green belts will be learning Heian Yondan, at least in the dojo I trained with. Some different dojos and organizations do the belt progression differently. Congrats on being advanced to green! I've rarely heard of someone skipping an entire belt. They must see you working very hard. Don't get too focused on belt progression though. I would argue it can actually make you worse as a martial artist. Focus on honing your connection to the art and discipline within your body. It's possible you'll get black belt by then, but a lot is required to achieve that at a legitimate dojo. A black belt is a serious representation of mastery and commitment. At mine you'd have to learn to say/understand all the core movements in Japanese, spar effectively, memorize the colored belt katas (at least 9 in number), as well as a few other things. Once you get to brown belt a lot of this more serious training will come into play. There are three levels of brown belt (full belts) before black. A black belt is a sign of true dedication. You don't get there by searching for it, or trying to move quickly. You get there by focusing on the day to day practice. Learn Heian Yondan. Engage in class and practice outside of class. And above all, have fun! Focus on the journey, not the destination. Karate is a great way to get to know your body, nurture self discipline, gain confidence in yourself and your power.

Honestly it depends on the division you are competing in. Bassai Dai, Enpi, Jion, Kanku Dai are always strong kata for competition.

Can you make a video tutorial about kihon kumite? I think it very necsessary for training everyday.

In all martial arts we have this kind of work, they are fighting against a virtual enemy, and it's so helpful for mastering movements and improving Mind-Muscule connection. And if your thinking "self defense? So if someone approching you and trying to fight you yoy do this?" no dummy that kata has something for self defense there is a application for that kata u can use two three one moves of the kata but u dont have to do all of that if you really see or focus on what hes doing you can see there is a move for defense too we have kata bc you can use it for self defenses and HE IS DEFINITELY OK
