I’m dying laughing at your description of the freezer scene in beach read “why is she up so high- how can he reach her?” 😂😂 tbh i’d be confused too but sometimes these smut scenes tend to defy gravity.

The only reason I knew what she was talking about in the book was because people where I live freeze their excess meat from hunting in those out in the garage. That's all I could think of the entire scene though, so is that any better?

I got to the Emily Henry part and I am honestly laughing out loud to the freezer part. My entire life I've only had these low horizontal freezers so that's what I imagined while reading the book :D AND, while everyone might say that Beach Read is her best book, I will proudly say I think Book Lovers is the far superior Emily Henry book out of all the books she published!

I had to read The Hour of the Star in High School, more than 15 years ago (God, I'm old 👵🏻) and because of you now I want to reread it. One fun fact about Clarice Lispector that I love (besides the fact that she grown up in my hometown) is that she did the Brazilian translation of Interview with the Vampire and it's the translation that we use to this day. 💜
YAY!! So glad to see brazilian authors reaching the world! Super excited and warm hearted to see it!
I absolutely love seeing Brazilian authors getting more recognition abroad! Clarice's short stories are also awesome
Totally agree with you about Emily Henry books - Book Lovers is my absolute fave, followed by Funny Story. She’s great for a reading slump 💕💕

As a type of a mood girl, when I hear someone saying - I picked up and put down - I want to say, girl, it's okay, it's not like you have to finish it if you picked it up, each book has its' moment. And as a person who is an avid reader of online novels, I must say dnf-ing or putting down novels in this field is even a necessary practice)))

Omg thank you for mentioning the double pants situation in Funny Story! Some of the hook up scenes didn’t make sense and I was like maybe I don’t understand English anymore 😂
If you haven’t already you should read Deathless by Catherynne Valente - it uses major elements from Russian folklore and it’s kind of a love story, kind of a coming of age if a young woman, but also just kind of devastating. One of my favorite books
The fridge bit was funny haha. The long/horizontal freezer is called, as I know it from growing up, a deep freezer. We had one in our garage (since there was 5 people in our household).

I’m reading an ARC of Buried Deep and Other Storied and am loving it! In such a short time she builds worlds that draw you in. Plus there’s a Scholomance short story!
RomComs: Abby Jimenez’s recent trilogy starting with Part of Your World, hands down! Otherwise I recommend checking out Elyse Meyers’s recent reading wrap ups, she gives incredible my thorough but quick wrap ups that could really help you pick
I also read Beautyland in June and I it hit for me, even though I got a little unsure in the middle too. I reserved it after a super brief perusal of the description and wasn’t not prepared for the gut punches. “When someone dies, where does the way they eat egg rolls go?” That got me.

Remember Me - Sophie Kinsella. Super fun with a unexpected twist towards the end.

I'm not sure if you have already read them, but if not- "Yours Truly" and "The Happy Ever After Playlist" by Abby Jimenez (they are part of two different series, but can be read as stanalones ). It should make a perfect summer/plane read. I love the way Abby Jimenez writes the first part of of her romance books- the way they meet, flirt, write to each other ect, it makes me see that they actually have chemistry/feelings for each other, which then makes me root for them. Overall really fun reads. Love from Poland❤

Cari since you enjoyed The Maniac I would HIGHLY recommend When We Cease To Understand the World by the same author, Benjamin Labatut…It’s a collection of short stories that are fictionalized accounts of great scientific discoveries, it’s definitely one of a kind and merges literature, history, and science into one unique collection!
One of my favorite rom coms is The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella ❤ I was laughing through the entire book! Loved to side characters too. ❤❤❤
not a romcom but a coming of age story about friendship (and a small romantic subplot). foolish hearts by emma mills is such a sweet wholesome story and claudia (the mc) is so funny and it did make me shed some tears. highly recommend

Adding The Invocations to my list immediately! I've just finished A Botanist's Guide to Flowers and Fatality by Kate Khavari. It follows a young female researcher in the 1920's London, trying to get taken seriously by men in an academic setting... there's multiple murders, the flower language, jazz clubs, greenhouses, a solid easy read overall.
