The connaiseurs all know that this athlete was at her best in 2010 when she debuted in the senior level, she practically killed the 2010 worlds at the age of 16!!! and it was expected from her to be ,, The One" in London. Unfortunately, she injured in 2011 at the Europeans and she couldn't reach her amazing potential from that point, never after. Mustafina at her peak was untouchable, she would've been a great thread to Biles. More, with a champion mindset (unlike the other Russian wonder-kid, Komova), she managed to get a gold UB, two bronzes AA&FX individual medals in 2012 Olympics. That great she was. Moreover, she continued to compete every single year winning medals in both Worlds and Europeans( unlike other self-sufficient gymnasts who peaked for the Olympics and then had retired). What is great in Mustafina is her capacity to continue, to believe in her potential, knowing she'll never be again like in 2010 . Many people should ask themselves, how would the Worlds, Olympics and medal tables would've been with a healthy and injured-free Mustafina?! In Rio, she delivered once again and nobody was surprised. Why? Because her mind overpassed her body. And this is what legends are made of. The end.

There is definite truth to that statement. She had the mindset of a warrior, one who refused to back down even when it wasn’t going her way. She actually didn’t compete in 2015 worlds but that was only because she was healing some injuries (back, leg and ankle I believe). This allowed her to be in best form for Rio. I really liked Komova’s style In gymnastics, but you are correct in saying Aliya had a stronger mental fortitude- and her gold medals spoke for it.

Now, in all honesty, I will say Mustafina is great. She also really benefited from the 2 PC rule that got rid of Jordyn in London and Gabby from Rio. Gabby would have most likely easily taken bronze/silver. Gabby, like mustafina, wasnt able to restore an amanar by rio (though was in london).

@@saragrant9749 First off, it's a falsehood that Aliya "hit" her routines. On beam she missed every acro series. The routine she performed that day literally had no acro series, meaning she missed an entire 0.5 D-score compositional requirement. But even if she had done the acro series, her total D-score in the all around was less than Chunsong's so I think Chunsong's low-difficulty vault is really a moot point. Her D-scores were incredibly high on the other three apparatuses, more than enough to offset the weak vault. I think the way Chunsong was judged all the way through those Olympics was fundamentally unfair. For example during the AA on beam she wasn't credited for a connection when all of her connections were in my (and even the commentator's) opinion absolutely unquestionable.

@@jgsh8062 Mustafina did have a messy beam routine (I’d forgotten that one aspect). HOWEVER, She had a 0.8 advantage on vault in start value- and STUCK it. Shang not only gave her that edge but then had a really poor vault herself. The issues on beam were overcome by the difference in vault strength. On floor Aliya had the advantage in ARTISTRY. Shang grossly lacked in that area- a fact you seem determined to ignore. She also had a couple of low landings on floor that cost her. On beam she was very clean- and very unartistic which was a fairly sizable issue. Aliya also had the edge on bars. You can feel however you want to, the judges- people certified at the highest level of the sport and with decades of experience- knew far more than the laymen out there whining like children. If you’re so convinced you’re the foremost expert on gymnastics judging, please feel free to get off your duff and become one!!

The execution was spot-on on pretty much every element of this routine, but there was no life to the choreography. The few moments of actual dance were spectacular, but the constant stopping and prepping and positioning for the spins killed the flow and rhythm. I fully understand that Mustafina was relying on these spins to have any chance at decent score, but I wish she could have integrated them more elegantly into the dance.

I’ll remind you that one of the things that cost Russia a gold in 2012, and what kept them from having anyone in the floor final in 2016 was a lack of control on many dance elements (along with some issues with tumbling). Each nation brings their own unique styles to the sport. Let’s appreciate that rather than having to feel the need to degrade one for another. That is the act of a child, not an adult.

Stupid judges ! Aliya was underscored on beam, but she was very underscored on floor and deserved more than 14.200. Yes Chunsong was very underscored and deserved better scores, but she was underscored on her execution, unlikely Aliya who was underscored on her difficulty. For me : Why Aliya was underscored ? - on beam : she fell on her unique acro series, her D score was basically 5.6 but the judges gave it to her just 5.3 (she had 5.3+8.533=13.833), so for me her real score is 5.6+8.533=14.133. - on floor : except the full twisting front layout after the 1.5 twist (in her 2nd pass) and the Gomez not finished, the routine was exactly the same as she did in qualifications. She had the same trouble on her Mustafina during the qualifications, but here the Mustafina was credited as a Memmel so the real Memmel+turn combo wasn't credited. This is absolutly stupid and she should have 5.7+8.633=14.333 and not 5.3+8.633=13.933. Why Chunsong was underscored ? - on beam : for me her D score was correct because her layout his always a little bit piked, but the judges always give it to her a low execution score. - on vault : yes her FTY wasn't high and a little bit piked, but she deserved 14.033 and not 13.833 because she stuck (which is quite rare on the WAG). - on uneven bars : unfortunately I didn't see her routine, but I know that she is always underscored (whether in qualifications, in team final and in event final).

Some corrections to your presumptive and clearly biased comments. First, Shang was performing a FTY- in the AA. THAT WILL NEVER WIN YOU A MEDAL! She did the same thing in 2015 and clearly didn’t learn and subsequently upgrade. She also had some form errors on her vault which lowered that score even more. She got hit for lack of artistry on both beam and floor- which were justified. Her floor was very static, incorporating tumbling with a few dance moves but also a lot of just walking to the corner for the next tumble. The gymnasts who won AA medals incorporated much more dance in, moving fluidly into tumbles and out again. That’s the difference there. In Aliya’s floor and beam she WAS fairly scored. She received more than a point higher than qualifying- where she had a fall. She did have some checks and at least one broken connection which cost on difficulty and execution. On floor she got hit for several dance elements which were not executed cleanly. She was actually lucky to receive the floor score she did- it could have gone to either her or Shang in the end. For everyone who complains about the judging, I have a suggestion. Go become one yourself. If you are so convinced you can do it better, PROVE IT. It’s easy to preach, much more difficult to practice. Hypocrisy is easy.

quals had a 5.7, this was a 5.3 with higher execution (which i dont see how that could happen since the messy spins is what got her downgraded in the first place). Disappointing the judges rewarded such an anti climatic fx. On another note, if NBC wasn't monopolizing the global broadcast then we would have more views on these videos and they would've been up sooner.
