Alistair knew a punch would bring him down, so he always played defensively. What a beast strike.

It's always a countdown to "the punch" in every Overeem fight.

Alister Overem was buying time in late minute to be declared winner. In Boxing or MMA, you got to fight till last minute. Being ahead in points doesn't not grantee victory. The opposition will go desperate for last minute knock out punch , when he is behind the points. Exactly happened, here

Overeem gets right back up with 4 seconds to go and the ref calls the fight ? That is not a knock out just a knock down. Overeem could have lasted 4 seconds. All he had to do is cover up. So his lip was split open, so what !

He was not expecting Alistair to get back up and unfortunately botched the call. Happens all the time and is nothing to be ashamed of. (Ex. Lawler vs Askren)

​​@@hotdoggravyIt was Round 5 already. There is no more mid-rounds for the Doc to stop the fight. The ref was the only one able to call the fight due to a laceration at that point. However, that is not the reason the fight was called. He legit thought Reem was put to sleep which is why he stepped in. This was the wrong call, but it happens so frequently that you can't really fault him.

He got up immediately. The ref saw the lip after... Not the precise moment of the impact so he wouldn't know about that insane injury..the ref assumed KO.. Bad assumed. Knock down. Not KO. Bad decision..my opinion..
