Alison's Halo were (are?) a married couple named Adam and Cate who were part of that whole 'Beautiful Noise Festival' & Independent Project Records scene in Tempe, AZ back in the 90s. I met Adam back in the day. That scene was groups like HodgePodgeLodge, lovesliescrushing, Alison's Halo and my personal favorite Halfstring. The drummer from Halfstring owned the best record store to buy shoegaze, indie, punk and whatnot in that area; it was called Stinkweeds.

I'm in shoegaze/dreampop Heaven. The guitar/drum breakdown gets me every time.

everyone kind of is.. the majority who would say they don't like this, would be dude's who don't like music with a sweet aesthetic. u know, pounding metal because that's what hardcore people do

+PrimeM92 I dunno, I think this is more dreampop than shoegaze - which is not a problem. WIth that said, Alison's Halo is good, but not even close to Slowdive or MBV, IMO. I have the impression, though, that the problem here is more about the production than the quality of the musicians.

Danilo Luís Faria The terms Dream Pop and Shoegaze have often been used interchangeably. One could argue that Slowdive, Pale Saints & Lush (and songs like this one) were more ethereal and less heavy/noisy than Ride, MBV, Curve, Swervedriver or Catherine Wheel. On that basis they could be classed as more 'dreampoppy'. However, I think there was always a very strong overlap as plenty of heavier bands were still strongly influenced by The Smiths, The House of Love, The Jesus & Mary Chain etc. and so still had a strong 'noise/indie pop' influence. The way I see it - some shoegaze is heavy, noisy and intense while other songs are more gentle and ethereal. What they all have in common is the extensive use of atmospheric effects units in creating an overall hypnotic and psychedelic sound.

+PrimeM92 I usually see the two terms being used together, shoegaze/dreampop, sometimes with the adition of noisy rock. Thank you for the clarification. I mean it. I will have to agree with you on all that. I've been listening to other shoegaze bands the past weeks, before that I knew only Slowdive, MVB, Ride, and what came before, like Echo and The Bunnyman, Jesus & Maru Chain, Siouxsie, Smiths, etc.

I discovered this song on the shoegaze box set I downloaded from HDTracks a few months ago. If you love the genre, find yourself a legit undistorted (ironic term, given the genre) version of this song. I just listened to it repeatedly in the car for hours. I think I'm addicted to it.

+bobscomix I know!! that is the way I 1st heard it on our local St. Loui independent station KDHX 88.1.. and they played shoegaze with female singers, and I was like "what was that"? immediately caught my ear as something emotional, dreamy, nostalgic..

This is the first time i'm listening to shoegaze and imo it sounds almost like chillwave .
