Alison Goes to Kentucky, Makes a Cobb Salad | Home Movies with Alison Roman
Fermentation is hot! Home Movies hits the road this week and visits the Maker’s Mark distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. We learn a lot: a barrel of whiskey weighs 550 lbs and I can’t move 550 lbs, bottling is … stressful, Maker’s Mark is a small operation with a big heart (it’s a B corp!), and I like whiskey. When we get home, we make Cobb Salad which, according to David, I can’t stop talking about. This Cobb is at its core a really well seasoned salad thanks to a lemon, shallot, mustard vinaigrette. It’s elegant! And it’s also accessorized (enter chicken, avocado, tomato, bacon - of course, egg, and blue cheese). I enjoy mine with a brown derby, a bittersweet bourbon (did I mention I like whiskey?) cocktail that is duality personified.
Thank you Maker’s Mark for sponsoring this episode and being the greatest host! We’d love to visit you again (I promise I won’t try to bottle this time).

Late to the party but still need to say, this is the single best sponsored video I I’ve ever watched anywhere in terms of its content and sponsorship fit. Loved your Kentucky energy. You converted this viewer so congrats Makers Mark on ad spend well spent. Trevor and the elegant bottling ladies all deserve a raise. We need to see more end-to-end American manufactured products promoted. Anyway we can keep great quality products in business and good jobs for such great people without involving politics for once.
More road trips and more salad Yes please! Loved this!

Those copper stills are beautiful! When Alison releases new tutorials I always learn a thing or two about baking. I can safely say I’m more informed about the whole bourbon making process and how incredibly interesting it is

I also live in Kentucky and I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. I also just made two different Cobb Salads last week at my job. In the summer I like to add fresh corn. Perfect for a "Cobb" Salad.
That was great fun, as usual. I'll make a Cobb tonight. Thanks very much Alison!

Thanks for including the boiling eggs and peeling tidbits - it's the littlest things that are overthunk.
Having made a couple of trips to Loretto to Maker's Mark I really appreciated you showing the place as well. Loved your Cobb Salad as well. I haven't had one in some time, but I will fix that this week. Thanks
This was such a fun and educational video! Would love to see more of this combination between the field and cooking

here for ALL of the salad content!! this is so satisfying to watch for all of the sounds and colours of the fresh veg and meats 🤤🤤🤤🤤
I LOVE Cobb Salad, starting in the late 1970’s, when Julia Child featured it in her series on PBS at the time called “Julia and Company”. Later, in the early 1980’s, I got into Salade Niçoise - because I was taking French lesson in college and mainly because canned tuna required no cooking unlike poached chicken breasts and fried bacon strips.
I’ve loved your channel since I watched you fix a Thanksgiving feast in your small NY apt. I rewatch it every year ! Brush up & Refresh. NOW YOU’RE IN KY where I live !! Welcome !! Loved this Home Video. Also loved your Passover and you talking to your Dad.
Sweetness and skill personified! Great episode.
Love this travel vlog vibe. New fav Home Movies episode for sure. More like this, please!
I worked for B Lab (certifying nonprofit for B Corps) and I LOVE this shoutout. Also, I didn’t realize how cool Maker’s Mark is. Thanks, Alison!
Cobb Salad is MY go-to salad like forever. The recipe was born much like the Caesar -- thrown together with whatever was handy at the time and voila! -- massive success! So, good on ya, Bob Cobb! The Commissary at 20th Century Fox Studios used to be famous for their Cobb Salad, but I haven't been there for about 30 years, so who knows?
We literally just made the Fizzy Brown Derby!! Super delish!! Love watching your Home Movies. Big fans from Cleveland.❤❤ Anthony & Brad
This is beautiful work. Thank you so much. Love from Santiago de Chile
I have been to Loretto often but I loved seeing your adventure. I am a Maker's Mark Ambassador and refuse to drink any other bourbon much to the annoyance of friends and family. Thank you for the fun! And Maker's thank you for sponsoring Alison's show.
What a great episode!. I'm down for more on the road segments like this.

Nice to see all the work and efforts
The chicken looked fantastic cooked in bacon fat. (I always save my bacon fat, I also buy the thick cut, and I freeze it - it thaws enough to scoop some in minutes.) I’ll have to try Maker’s Mark after seeing this tour! I generally prefer rye whiskey but this looks enticing…
This episode is hysterically funny!
Freaking love the guides. They're so engaging and nice
What an amazing video! How this doesnt have a million views yet is beyond me!🎉
That was such a fun episode!
What a fun visit to the Maker's Mark distillery! Thank you... Kind of sad tho that the birth place of an iconic dish has closed 😥
Looks so good, much better than a chopped salad. 😊
These are one of the best bottles I have seen
Highly recommend the bourbon trail. Castle and Key distillery is the prettiest imo but I've had many great tours.
I loved this ep haha more travel!
9:42 Allison as Lucy in the candy production line! 😅 adorbs~~

Obsessed with the blouse in the Cobb salad scene 12:10
I know this is just a long-form ad-but it worked on me. My next bottle will be Maker's Mark.
I appreciate your efforts, a lot really
Alison is a true Maestra of the kitchen, blue cheese and bacon on a salad - want some. I drink Bourbon the same way as Single malt Whiskey, neat no ice. I've now watched Oppenheimer twice, I'm going to watch it again.

@@davidcho0828 Nolan is a genius, he uses an Orson Welles plot device from Citizen Kane. It's critical to the ending of the film. I was stumped I had to research it.

I had my first and only one ever in Polite Pig in Disney Springs in 2019 and I've thought about it ever since, it was my favourite salad ever. I subbed bacon and chicken for a maple glazed salmon fillet because I'm pescetarian. It was so great, what a salad
