AliExpress Theremin all sounds
I plan on attempting something musical with this in the future, this is just a demo of the sounds built in. there is a splash of reverb running parallel to the recording but other than that no outboard effects or pedals were used in this demo

Well... this was the much needed proof that the amazon reviewers had no idea how to play that thing. It seem to play well enough, and some instruments sounds does cut the notes more abruptly; however it clearly has range if you play it by distance and not altitude. Thanks for the demo!

I just got one of these today. It will create some great SFX for my music tracks. I just need to harness the tones I want. It is amazing with how many tones there are. The koto is cool sounding.

I would love to hear what you come up with! I'm impressed by the sounds available, and I had a lot of fun running it into some wild reverbs, I just haven't had time to explore it lately.
Got mine a few days ago and it's great.
So far the ONLY actually affordable theremin i'd consider an actual instrument. You just really need to add better Antennas to it that are giving you a bigger resistance so you can play the actual tonal range of a theremin. These thin Mini antennas are not sufficient enough. But at least it has both a Pitch AND a volume antenna. Most cheap Theremins somehow only always come with Pitch antenna only.

I've bought a couple antennas to try and improve on this and haven't had a ton of time yet to test them out. For $50ish I strongly recommend it as a musical tool to experiment with, and I love the Asian instrument sounds programmed as well as things like "broken piano" BUT many of those sounds react like an "on/off" trigger with the left hand, rather than a gradual volume. There are tones of traditional wave form synth/theremin sounds that do respond as expected to the volume control as well. Just wanted to keep you informed!

This is not really a theremin just a proximity trigger, if you want 'actual' playability and tone to use truly musically at budget look at the Open Theremin v4

For the $50 or less price tag I'm really enjoying it. Especially with a nice reverb or delay pedal. I'm not great at controlling it yet, and there are two basic types of sounds. The continuous type, where the left hand controls the volume, or the trigger type, where the left hand triggers the beginning of the sound, if you lower your left hand to lower the volume on the trigger based sounds, it just cuts off the trigger, but again with the right reverb this is still plenty useful!

The only reason I've ever wanted one of these is because of my love for Forbidden Planet, and would love to create something vaguely similar to that. I'm not a musician though, so do I stand a chance with it?
So, it's been awhile; how are you liking Douk's dive into synthesis? Make anything interesting? How's it feel to use? Me and a mate are thinking of buying one each, so direct feedback would be nice! Also, still waiting for Behringer to drop new nooze about their joint, the Theremini, but I think theirs is supposed to be more like a traditional 'wood box' theremin. Thanks for posting the demo!

Thanks for checking this out! So, I have a lot of fun screwing around with it, but haven't made anything practical with it. I bought a separate standing antenna off of Amazon that I thought would be useful, but it has a long cord (it's meant to go on the roof of a boat or RV or something, and the entire cord counts as part of the antenna so I have to recalibrate it a lot. The bigger antenna didn't really help me with the accuracy. STILL, for under $50 I would recommend it to folks who like to fool around with electronic music gadgets. Some of the sounds are traditional thermin sounds, but some are just sampled sounds that moving your left hand triggers an on or off. And because it's a single sound, the lower notes are just the same sample played slower, which can have interesting sound results but far from perfect. I should do another video on this!
Just ordered one. Looks and sounds cool. With audacity on my pc I can layer lots of sounds to make some music. I'll post a video if I do.

Mine came in approximately 5 weeks. I had some feedback/interference when running it off of a portable charger into a mixer, sounded like radio static in the background. Worked just fine with a traditional wall plug and even on it's own with the portable one, just not portable+mixer. So if you run into any feedback don't be discouraged. I'm excited to hear what you do with it!

Hi friend! The listing I purchased it under was called "TZT theremin" but the way most of the things on AliExpress work is warehouse style, I've always purchased from whoever has the cheapest price including shipping. I've never had any issues with electronics not functioning properly, the only issue being long delivery times. I see this one on AliExpress for $35.99 right now, or on Amazon for $56.99, so it's a matter of if saving $20 is worth 4 weeks of waiting to you, for me it usually is worth the wait to save the $$$

Hola! Es cromático?
i bought a larger and thicker upright antenna, and a round AM antenna for the the volume and it works much much better but I'm still messing around with the actual settings portion to tweak it just right. if anyone has a tutorial on that I'd be extremely grateful because I don't understand half the setting and I do so I can hone this perfectly.

@@nerdebynature I got the antennas on amazon in a pack that included both for 11.99 CAD. I played around with this for hours on end as well and watched way too many videos of people playing to try to match the classic sound. so this is what I landed on. let me know if you have a better plan. factory reset, settings, pitch sensitivity> turn all the way up, and keep it on the default sound. Then back out of the settings and head to the pitch settings and turn that up to 42. recalibrate. This is the closest I can find to being what a normal classic theremin sounds like, in my opinion
Let me guess. No MIDI capability right? Can't use it with DAW or hardware synth.

This is a glorified toy. It is fun to play with, but it's barely compatible with headphones, let alone anything wise. I've had no luck improving the note accuracy, even with a much larger antenna for the right hand. But it was $50, and can make weird noisies and I can put it through pedals, so I'm satisfied!

It probably needs a larger antenna and higher voltage. Theres pluggins that allow you to translate base frequencies into midi signal so using one of those plugins this could easily be used for midi
Help me decide - should I buy this thing, or wait for the Stylophone Theramin to come out?
@nerdebynature
4 ай бұрын
If you are exclusive after the theremin sounds and effect I would go with the stylophone when it comes out. I imagine it tracks a bit better than this one. I enjoy this one for the extra sounds of the traditional Asian instruments built in, but it triggers those more like a keyboard than a theremin if that makes sense?
Can you chose what scale it plays?

There are adjustable controls, but the only one I figured out how to control is how to extend your lowest notes. The interface isn't complicated looking, but not well translated maybe? There are multiple things that say they adjust left hand controls for instance but none that say they adjust the right hand (and at least one of these does adjust the right hand)
