There it is again, so there IS a 4 hour cut that is even more horrific, I hope that someday it will pop up

One of a handful for sure. The Thing is right up there too.

I was there at the Egyptian opening night. Walking by the jockey. Walking through mother. Memories. So sad those set pieces burned down

Me too, they are both amazing, except that The Thing was not successful when it came out however it became a cult classic years later.

@flashladderacrobat oh dude, I saw The Thing in 82, was only 12 and it blew me away! My 3rd favourite is the 1986 The Fly. Am old school :)

It's a shame that after this film and Aliens, the Alien franchise will never have such a reaction again, due to the current state of affairs in Hollyweird.

Stop being boring. Hollywood has been criticised since bqck in the 1910's for being out of step, too promiscuous, too pro civil rights, too liberal, etc etc etc. It really is a boring trope.

They made sequels? I seen Aliens in the theater when I was a kid, I had no idea about others? Are they any good?

@@fixedguitar47 Sequels and Prequels, actually. In 1992, there was Alien 3, which almost destroyed the franchise, and then came Alien: Resurrection. They were not that good. In 2012 and 2017, Ridley Scott made Prometheus and Alien: Covenant which were "prequels" to the 1979 film. And coming up in August, a new film Alien: Romulus, which takes place between the events of Alien and Aliens.

It wild to think the time period between now and when this documentary came out (2024 vs 2003) is almost as long as the time from when the original film came out (2003 vs 1979).

That's always been one of my biggest gripes about the theater experience: you never know whether they have the sound equipment adjusted or maintained correctly. Or the projector levels, or the focus, or the matting, etc. etc. When I saw Scott's "American Gangster" the matting was so wrong in the theater that the top half of characters' heads were cut off! It must have been an odd matting with that film because I've also heard the opposite and that lots of people saw boom mics.

Yeah, I saw it in a 900 seat theater at its first showing. It was 35mm so it was kind of washed out on such a large screen. Plus, naturally, they were doing some work in the projection booth or something. I mean, honestly? I saw it the second time in a 250-seat theater and the projection was SO much sharper! I am glad that I got to do that.

Absolutely wonderful film. I sneaked my 10 year old daughter in to see the Directors cut- but she bolted screaming at the 'Chest burst' moment. I had to let her go!

The title "Alien" is clever. It refers to the lethal, slimy xenomorph killing machine. It also refers to the "alien planetoid". The derelict space ship feels like a "haunted house".

Alien 1 was an absolute masterpiece, Alien 2 was Great, the rest of the Alien movies were all a total disaster. Hopefully the newest 2024 Alien movie doesn’t suck.
