This was my first R-rated movie. I was 13 at the time. This movie had the best trailer of all time. It gave almost nothing away. All we got was that glowing egg, bizarro shriek, about 20 seconds of lightning fast flashes and a fade to the tag line. We had no idea what to expect and when that thing popped out of Kane’s chest, we crapped our drawers! Genius! I never had an experience like this again.

Each video you do gives me a great sense of nostalgia. We obviously loved the same things as kids. Lost in Space, Ark II, Planet of the Apes, Land of the Giants, Starlog magazine, etc. Here is a question for you... Any idea what happened to Hector the robot from Saturn 3? Alien and Jaws were ground breaking suspense/horror movies, and I loved them both. But I agree with you about not over exposing the creature. That's why those movies were just so scary to me. Dude, are you kidding?!? THE preeminent horror movie of all time! Back in '79, most theaters had just one screen, and they were HUGE - 70mm, SurroundSound, bass throws, etc. ALIEN was at a particular theater like that for 8 months! Every showing had at least one Denver Paramedic van waiting outside for those who fainted at Kane's chest-bursting scene. I saw this icon 23 times (at $2.50 a pop), with sisters, brothers, friends, my now-wife (who asked me if we could leave after the egg opened to attack Kane.) My only gripe with "Aliens" was that the xenomorphs were being killed off like flies - this after Ash, in the original, told Ripley that they couldn't be killed - PHOOEY, I say! I do have the original toy still, with it's "squeeze head/ jaw eject" mechanism. There will NEVER be another like it, although "Prometheus" is close. Thanks for the close look, buddy - fantastic!! -- Steve

I was at the first secret test screening at the Highland Park Village theater in Dallas before it was released and we had no idea what was going to happen. People actually ran out of the theater when the chestburster popped.

I would imagine they need oxygen specifically and maybe water and food but once life support system shut down on the ship and when the oxygen got used up, and the whole ship is filled with carbon dioxide, the aliens died.

Before the movie was released I found a comic in drugstore that depicted the major scenes in the movie. I later saw the movie with my wife. Before the John Hurt ‘chest’ scene, I turned and carefully took the popcorn container from her so it wouldn’t go flying. I think that freaked her out more than the scene.😂

oh it freakd out the cast too! Veronica Cratwright and Yaphette Koto had ZERO idea what was going to happen until they shot that scene- Veronica Cartwright's reaction is 1000% genuine!

This came out while I was in high school. I had already seen it but talked my mom into going to see it with me again. She sat in that chair with her knees to her chin through almost the entire movie. Great memory of just the 2 of us.

The tag line "In Space, no one Can Hear you Scream," that kept me from watching this film!!!! Awesome scary, along with "When Hell Is Full, the Dead will Walk the Earth."

I've always thought the tail of "Big Chap" reminded me of a fossilized tail of a T-Rex. H.R. Giger is my favorite "mad scientist." I loved the cast - great characters who I felt terribly when they were killed one-by-one. Thanks, Dan Monroe.

Kind of weird to see that it has a human skull inside the top of the head. I don't think we ever saw that in the movie. To me the forehead just looked glossy black.

Edit again. Back then, in England I was 15, and so I couldn't go to my local cinema to see it. It was an X rated film (18 or over). Because I couldn't see it I bought all the books I could so I could see the film in my mind. All of those original books have been lost to time, and I have replaced them with reissues.......except the A4 photostory and the poster magazine. I kept them in great condition. My American wife and I went to see the movie on the big screen for its 45th Anniversary two weeks ago tonight, at the AMC Veterans 24 here in Tampa. First time on the big screen for both of us.
