I don't agree that its "petty". Moin Akhtar shb rightly said that art doesn't have boundaries but artists do. Inclusivity is good untill it starts overshadowing, already Pakistani cultural representation is done as Indian culture, with certain color combinations, attire, music etc. If PC is an "Indian" actor and she proclaims it herself then Sharmeen is a "Pakistani". If you can't recognize that then don't mention it. No artist from Pakistan claimed Natu Natu as a South Asian song and jump its bandwagon. Kindly, start recognizing it!!

Bhai agar toh intentionally karti ye to overshadow Pakistan's achievements, i wud understand this hullabaloo around an innocuous post that celebrates women of colour. But she didn't obv. Iss baat ka kaun batangar banata h nd who'll view a post celebrating south asian women as an attempt to overshadow pakistani culture. Mannn, it just boggles me how the division has seeped so deep inside us. When I heard about sharmeena, I was obv happy abt the fact that she was Pakistan's first but my first instinct was also to rejoice the fact that a south Asian woman would direct a star wars movie. That's the shared identity we share so obv that's anybody's first reaction from the subcontinent. Why do we celebrate south asian achievements like malala or rasta or bibi mohapatra? Because we feel a sense of achievement and pride through it since that's the identity we share. When RRR won didn't Pakistani's also feel a l'il bit of a sense of pride or achievement? Toh woh toh natural instinct h. When Kumail Nanijiani was cast, I felt super happy. Same w ahad and humayun saeed. Also, when in a foreign land, we generally grasp for similarities. We are "desis" abroad or south asians or browns. We generally try to bond with people in whom we can identify some bit of our culture/past. Most importantly, Priyanka has talked about more representation of brown people in Hollywood before. When asked what would she like to change in Hollywood, she said I would like to see more brown representation as it's highly underrepresented here. Uss time toh usne Indian representation nahi bola? That's because it's natural to identify ourselves as south asians in the west. I can't believe people can make such an issue of a good thing instead of celebrating the win. Through Priyanka's story, more ppl in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh would know about sharmeena. Bajay ki hum isko celebrate kare, lage pade h faltu cheezon mein jo intention tha bhi nahi.

@@ziajami i think what's happening is one incident is being used to colour another. That was a diff incident. I agree her response wasn't the best one. Her tweets came from a patriotic perspective (however misplaced because it can be deemed as war mongering and given she's a UN ambassador, she could have done better) but she misjudged how it could be perceived at a time when tension was brewing between two nuclear armed nations. But to use that as the basis of her not celebrating Pakistan in the post is very far-fetched. We all have moments where we havent behaved appropriately but iska matlab ye thodi h ki iske piche agenda h. She def shouldn't have dismissed ayesha like that, it was a mistake. However, using that to say she's deliberately trying to overshadow Pakistan's achievements is an exaggeration.

No Amna, sorry it is not ok! We as Pakistanis have to face discrimination overseas quite often. Indians present their nation in all forms and platforms where they can flaunt it which is absolutely right but at the same time they don’t loose the opportunity from brushing away Pakistani people when credit is due so please it’s not about being petty but presenting it well and correct. So yes, Sharmeen is Pakistani first and should be called that by whatever chopra.

I also think that PC made a dumb mistake by specifying Sharmeen's achivement because even if she would've wrote first 'Pakistani woman' still people would've haunted her saying 'not just a Pakistani but first South Asian to be doing so' :-) cause people from both nations are simply intolerant to positivity. I wish rather than focusing on boundaries and division one day people can appreciate the unity artist's like Sharmeen bring.

Adnan Siddiqui is our International actor who has given his opinion. He acted in ‘ MOM’. I do think he was correct ,we name the country first . Not sub continent . If Nadal or Federer won a grand slam , we did not say from Europe . It is correct to say the name of country first . Constructive criticism should and is welcomed by most stars across the globe as long as it is communicated on the basis of dialogue and discussion, logical, useful, calm and in sane manner. But, right now, most of the pakistani reviewers/entertainment sites/wannabe celebrities are in a destruction mode against Tere Bin by mocking the leads on their choice of scripts, clothing even going below the belt to describe some scenes. This kind of destructive criticism is unnecessary, toxic and should be condemned by all as it can be emotionally damaging to Yumna and Wahaj's mental health. Instead of ridiculing these two talented stars, be happy that a drama from your nation is a world wide success. Unnecessary criticism is a toxic habit that can destroy the self esteem and cause mental health issues. Choose your words carefully. I am not directing this at SH team. It is for all the people from entertainment fraternity in the past few weeks who have gone on rampage with their attacks against the leads. This is coming from a concerned mental health advocate.

Amna and Hassan I respectfully disagree with you about the Sharmeen comment. I think she should be recognized as a Pakistani woman because this is an accomplishment. Indians are not shy to mention their nationality and heritage. They are working leaps and bounds to get their presence be known to the world (for eg: nmacc and dior) We don’t have many reasons to celebrate. Let’s take what we get.

From PC’s perspective that tweet couldn’t have used any other adjectives for Sharmeen.I think the issue in this case is that if an International publication/news agencies which are either not well informed or don’t want to give appropriate recognition captures and makes news out of PC’s words then it fails to give the rightful recognition to the country of origin. Like I won’t be happy to to read headlines which say “Canadian South Asian filmmaker to direct Star Wars”. Even though its true🧐

Point is aamna even when I was younger I used to think that all the romance that is shown on tv and flims is the Real Deal but as you grow older and mature you realise that most of it is toxic and stupidity that you won't want to have in your real life. You grow out of tropes like TB and just dissect them to find what wasn't funny.

When it comes to comedy it's not 70s 80s 90s. So colour shaming body shaming etc is not right. I love the comedians who write their work who make fun of their own experiences and lifes NOT of others. Yes some comedians make fun of audience members asking questions that to a degree is ok...but to a degree.

Noori brothers, though very talented, have always been eccentric/weird . I remember back in mid 2000s, they exploded on the scene and had a lot of concerts everywhere. I was in lums at the time and they had some seriously gross rumors doing the rounds back then which including sleeping with the same girl.🤮🤮🤮. Being perpetually high. The younger bro was my senior and he was under the elders shadow. During a concert series, one fine day he disappeared and switched off his phone. Emerged a month later from a different town…

Adnan Siddiqui has always been like this about India and its issues like he really watches them closely and with a different frame of mind. He notices everything. Previously he was like Indian bigg Boss has copied Pakistani bigg Boss by sending Salman Khan in the house for the weekend elimination which happened a lot of times before . He maybe forgot that Pakistani bigg Boss copied the whole concept. He has some negative sort of point of view.

Thing is, everyone has their political views and they often express it too.. I’m talking about celebrities of both sides. But when they meet they’re nothing but cordial and supportive of each other. I live in the Middle East and Indians & Pakistanis are friends, they hangout with each other, but they still have their differences with certain issues. That’s how we need to look at this situation. We are not going to be completely devoid of our differences, but we have to be okay with however we prefer to support each other. As long as we are supporting or appreciating each other and not hating & abusing!

I see people’s point when supporting Adnan Siddiques comment but Pakistanis are free to flaunt their being Pakistani and represent their country everywhere else in the same way Indians are. She said first south asian because that is a broader base. It includes Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and so many other nationalities so that makes it an achievement on a bigger scale. If she had simply said first pakistani it doesn’t present her in the same grandiose manner if that makes sense. South Asian simple includes a border population of people and that’s what she was trying to convey. Also, Priyanka has been a voice for all south asian talent in the west. An example of this is the Event she threw before the oscars to celebrate SOUTH ASIAN talent. It wasn’t an event just for indians. I don’t think her saying South Asian takes away from the achievement at all and every Pakistani everywhere is free to be proud of her and announce her achievement but what Priyanka posted also makes sense.
