Let's be honest Alfred Mahan made his assessments based what he had seen not what was actually going to happen

57:11 re: language. Interesting. I found Mahan more approachable (and relevant) than Corbett. Corbett seemed more a product of his time than Mahan. And I argue that Mahan is still incredibly relevant today in terms of global commons usage and control.

16:05 This reminds me a lot of Academics at university (I'm a PDRA in chemistry). They might do great research but some can not lecture for the life of them.

1:10 America is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mind-bogglingly big it is. You may think it's a long way to John o'Groats, but that's peanuts compared to America.

Re: Mahan's interpretation of Emma Hamilton. A 19th century American Episcopalian disapproved of a promiscuous woman? I'm shocked.

What about the existence of USS Maine (ACR-1), USS New York (ACR-2) and USS Brooklyn (ACR-3)?

As I point out they get to number 4 armoured cruiser years after they get to what was really number 11 battleship... so yes they exist, but it's a very half hearted attempt at a cruiser force.

Off-topic So I think the POD for the live tomorrow will be the Anson Sub-Class Admiral Class Battlecruiser being converted into Aircraft Carriers as that would help the RN's case against the RAF and the hulls are there so you might use them let's also be realistic with Furious halfway converted into a semi-terrible battlecarrier and the useless Fisher follies around, frankly the RN will just turn into the carriers as more hull equals far greater experience plus you can butterfly away Eagle as the British can finish it as Almirante Cochrane for Chile although if they don't want it, great convert her into Eagle The more carrier hulls the RN has the greater the knowledge base to draw come the 1930s

That doesn't work as a POD, because the POD is April Fools day 1918...

Okay I was expecting to be wrong even though I had though that if the RN was keeping the Fleet Air Arm then the RN would go with the Admiral Class carrier conversion given they are still on the stock and have not been cancelled or scrapped yet so they would be the logical choice

When was the decision by Beatty to use the Fisher Follies instead of the unfinished admiral class hulls taken?

@knight6831 about january 1919 is when they are paused... January 1920 is sort of when they are no longer an option for this, so this would have an impact on that decision, but would not necessarily alter a lot

Frankly I honestly think the Fisher Follies would have been converted into aircraft carriers as they were as they are terrible battlecruisers that Royal Navy clearly did not want after the war
