Alfa Romeo moves into the garage!

So I agreed to house this poor old Alfa Romeo 2600 as it’s been left outside way to long. Structurally solid as a rock and mostly complete, but needs wheel arches sorted, paint, carpet, headliner engine gearbox, brakes… The same old really… would make a great Patina cruiser.
Special thanks to delivery guy.
Special thanks to Vaughn for helping out.

I'm Italian so I've seen several of them 😊. It was the development of the 1958 Alfa 2000 Berlina, which was produced in greater numbers than the 2600. Interesting cars, a little heavy compared to the engines and penalized by the great appeal and success of the Giulietta which had exceptional performance. The spiders and coupes were very successful. In Italy they were the cars of political leaders and state managers, while industrialists preferred Flaminias or FIAT 2300s. About 500 were produced with right-hand drive. The 2000 enjoyed a long second life in Brazil as FNM, where the production lines were moved. Since in Italy the bodywork of the 2600 sedan was considered too traditional, the OSI Carrozzeria put the "Alfa 2600 OSI Berlina De Luxe" into small series production, very bright and with very clean lines. But Flaminia was a Goddess...

Beautiful car. The fake vinyl roof looks to be wrinkle paint, you see it on the dashboards of MG sports cars of the era and was advertised as a 'crackle finished dashboard' feature.

Oh that's a beauty! You are correct, I have never seen one... I suspect almost zero of them were ever delivered to Canada. It is a lovely machine, for sure, but the Flaminia is still even prettier! I hope it gets saved by a generous enthusiast... I suspect the engine was appropriated to fix a coupe? Very cool to see one regardless... Cheers from me and Frankers!

It’s a interesting car, the more I look at it the more I like it! Who knows why the engine was nicked.. probably went to a coupe or special build, I have access to a Sprint engine and gearbox (triple carb setup) So at the moment I’m thinking: do the brakes, patch the floor treat and paint it. Pull out the stinky headliner, get the engine gearbox sorted and drive it as is as a shabby banger with filler and holes. Only two registered in U.K. so not many about here either… they made 7000 coupes and 2100 sedans go figure what wealthy Italians wanted.. concur the Flaminia is a more beautiful car, but the Alfa has a certain coolness to it 🇮🇹🍕🏁

As a 1962 model and only 2,000 made this is rare. How many left worldwide I wonder?Good so many things intact so can be used as patterns. Fiat made a 2600 around this era, wonder if they shared an engine/trans.? What a shame it was left out in the weather for 5 years….but not beyond saving….but as you say, a lot of work….and money required.

I think you are thinking of the Fiat 2300 sedan. Not connected at the time! It's rare and no one cares:P

Only sand-blasting down to bare metal will tell how solid it is. That's probably the only way to go, otherwise the car will continue to deteriorate underneath the paint and filler. It should probably go back to Italy where the expertise to restore it and locate parts is most likely to be. Restoration will probably cost more than the car will be worth in the end, but that is almost always the case.

Very remarkable, considering the rarity of the model abroad. I believe that in addition to Italy they only sold quite well in France, Switzerland and Belgium (later in Brazil). What country are you from?

@@studiocalder818 my father was an Architect he did work for the Italian Ambassador who had a 1961 type 102 2000. It was replaced by a 2600 for the New Ambassador Dad and the departing Ambassador became friends. Dad purchased the LHD 2000. I loved it. I even got to drive it on private roads.

Yes I have seen one before . In fact a new one of these in the Alfa Romeo show room of an Alfa dealer in Melbourne , Australia, way back in 1965. In right hand drive, and in dark green. This is just a large version of the Alfa Romeo Giulia TI of 1962, has the same side profile, and has the rear tail light assembly of the Giulia TI, just mounted vertically, instead of horizontally. The early ones like this one, had drum brakes all round, made of aluminium alloy and finned for cooling. It is mechanically similar to the Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint, with twin cam 6 cylinder engine.
