Great trilogy to watch back to back. Volk comes into fight 1 with a game plan, nails it to take the belt. Max comes into fight 2 with all the adjustments to solve Volk's first plan, works really well. Mid fight Volk finds some answers to Max's adjustments to grab a split decision win that most people thought he should have lost. Fight 3 Max comes in with similar adjustments as last time, but this time Volk came in having expanded on the answers he found late in fight 2, shuts him out in a completely different way than fight 1.

What I love about Volk is his defensive awareness. Dude goes in for a sweet combo and unlike a lot of fighters, when he pulls away, he doesn’t let his guard down.

The way he talks about his training, he seems very meticulous in everything he does. I think it was his most recent fight with Yair that he said he hurt his arm in training and couldn’t block the high kicks in training like he was used to and that he realised it got him in a worse defensive position based on that muscle memory alone in the fight. He seems to really respect the fundamentals.

@@nozone4109this shows that you don’t even understand what you are talking about. Volkanovski didn’t lose to Topuria because he dropped his guard. That would be an insult to Topurias skill. The reality is Topuria cut off the cage so that Volkanovski had no where to circle off to and then he landed an overhand which is the kryptonite to Volk’s defense of leaning his head back. Normally fighters would not be able to execute this weakness because they don’t have the boxing to trade with Volk or they don’t have the wrestling to stop Volk from taking them down. That’s why Topuria beat Volk. Not cause Volk dropped his guard.

The fact that volk can out strike hollaway while also fighting off one of the tightest subs a jiu jitsu player can get with Ortega the get on top to beat his ass to the mat for 45 seconds just shows you how well rounded volk is. Max was fine, it was his annoying-ass fans that were the problem. Poor Volk couldn't catch a break on social media, almost every single post he made particularly on Instagram was swarmed with Max fans saying he lost the second fight and they were all the most upvoted comments. Volk putting this rivalry to bed in definitive fashion was a great way to shut them up.

The one thing in common Dustin and Alex had to offer Max was they could max his cardio but had legit striking power to fire back. Max needs to rework his training partners or gyms or something. The sport learns to quickly to stay stale.

Technique is perfect. He's always soooo dialed in it's a true treat to watch. His striking between now and his 1st fight with Holloway is a clear clear improvement! Boost them stats for UFC 4 and 5!!!!

Volk is in exceptional form and is getting better with every fight; he is the Islam of boxing. Volk could wear Islam down by beating his face around. Holloway 3, Ortega, and Zombie were his last three fights and all of them came out looking like they were in a severe motor vehicle accident. Two of the best at their styles with hearts and spirits equally big. It should be an inter-division trilogy match up for the ages.

I think Volk’s speed was a major factor in all 3 fights.

The gas tank on volkanovski is crazy, his punches and movement in the 5th round are absolutely insane especially with him throwing these crazy strong punches and fighting in those championship rounds

Max isn’t a weight bully. It’s extremely hard for him to cut weight because of how lean his muscles are. A muscular guy like Michael Chandler, who weighs 185, can cut to 155 because he’s cutting water weight from bigger muscles. GSP had the same problem as Max, he was about 185 and had trouble cutting to 170 due to how lean his muscle was. This is entirely a guess, but I think Max walks into the cage at about 160. And we know for a fact that he weighs about 178 out of the cage.
