I always felt like this song was a response to criticism from some fans that, I quote : "Alestorm was better before, when they were dressed up as pirates"

Subtext aside, if you take the song at face value, I find it really funny that there's this king who's just so into pirates that he wants his privateers to look like stereotypical pirates and really wanted to see the guy's pirate ship. Just imagining him waiting eagerly at the docks for the privateer to arrive, and then he turns around to see him on a horse instead

thats kinda sad actually, and he gets shot too. all the poor guy wanted was to see some cool pirates under his command.

I feel like there is a more serious message in this one about growing tired of what people want out of you vs what you want to do. God, so called 'fans' can be the absolute worst.

It's not so much the fans that keep a band "locked" in a certain niche. It's really the record labels that say "Hey, that album made money. Now make that EXACT SAME SOUND FOREVER." Now the band needs to decide whether to continue struggling financially but get to do their own thing, or do the same thing for 5 billion albums and get paid.

@@FatGuyReviews.935 I don't entirely disagree. Metal and all it's subgenres has some of the most particular fans, and they want the same sound that they've always heard before. But fans don't pay the bills anymore. No one's buying albums anymore, and platforms like KZread and Spotify pay squat to the creators. It's the record label that pays the bills, and ultimately, it's them the band has to appease. I think fan response was a bigger deal in the days when a band's primary income came from CDs, but times have changed. Ah well, it's not like I'm an expert. I'm not in the scene. You could be entirely right.

That sort of thing is to be expected when you make the pirate theme your band's main thing and then decide to not do that. Wanting to do something else is just fine, just not as Alestorm.

@@Schecterman777 Plenty of bands make the same album over and over again, look at Motorhead and AC/DC for two older examples. I guess it ain`t for everyone but many people preefers that the band keeps the same sound that they like and is predictable. This also applies to Sabaton, lol.

One time Christopher said he doesn't like rum and now we get a song about it?

Whenever I sing along I feel like a traitor

Ensiferum vibes 101% : a collaboration with Petri on vocals would have been perfect on this song, as on the last album there was Vreth of Finntroll on "Chomp Chomp". One of the best track of the album, surely the best riff.

I really love this song but it also makes me sad cause definitely you can tell there is lots of truths in between the awesome sounds
