That B/D thing is a game changer. I have a narrow heel and a wide forefoot and like many people when I find a boot that fits my heel it’s crushing my toes. When I find a boot that suits my toes my heel is all over the place. I need more boot makers that use this same approach that Alden uses with a narrow heel and wider forefoot.

I have the Ottawa boots. I have always wanted the Tanker boots but I can’t justify spending $700+ on a pair of boots when I work from home full-time and I barely ever leave the house. I’ve tried on the Tanker boots for fun and imo, the Ottawa’s feel nicer to me. I love the way that the Ottawa’s look and feel. They are an underrated boot that Grant Stone makes. I will be getting more of the Ottawa boots, that’s for sure.

Great comparison videos. I have a question on Alden Indy sizing. I wear 9 for Thursday Sneakers (Could probably wear 8.5) I wear 8.5 in Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill (Chrome XL with Danite sole - the command like sole is wider it seems and I would wear an 8.0 in that sole). Looking to buy Alden Indys and was told by other youtubers to go half size smaller than other boots. I see you wear 8.5 in Alden and Grant Stone. Would you recommend to go a half size smaller than Higgins Mill?

Very nice job! It is apparent that you put a lot of effort into this review and comparison video. I find the level of detail including your assessment of the trimmed leather versus open leather helpful in understanding whether or not these differences reflect upon quality of the manufacturing process. Quick question. Do you have any concerns over the Grant Stone being assembled in China versus America? Any potential concerns regarding quality of the finished product?

hello sir, and thank you so much for your excellent remarks!! I have no concerns over the quality of the Grantstones, and if anything I feel that they're built as strong as Viberg Boots with an Alden-esque appearance. In fact the welt on the granstones seems to be extraordinarily sturdy. I've only had them for about a year at this point though so time will tell, but I am very confident in their quality yes

That Goodyear welt puzzle piece on the insole is actually the outline of a full hide of leather. That's why it reads 'Genuine Leather' inside of it. Like you I'll take speed hooks over eyelets any day. One thing to note is the Grant Stone eyelets are larger and thicker than the Aldens which gives them a more casual appearance.

4 years old and now seeing thus video , it's awesome , I see why grant stone is on par with alden boots , also I have allen edmonds higgins mill and that one is not on same level as those two , so I would like to see vidberg against grant stone or vidberg against alden Parkhurst as really great quality but it's a shame that they don't have more boots and being so quiet about there boots . I wish parkhurst can merge with another company or something .

I think sole edge doesn't always indicate formality. I know on my White's, they are a very casual boot off of silhouette alone. The colored edge add more of a color uniform, opposed to dressing them up. Alden's are pretty dressy though. Might get a pair after I get another pair of Nicks boots.

Had you ever tried the boot shoe trees from Woodlore? I have a pair of color 8 Crockett & Jones boot (sold through Brooks Brothers) and a pair of cap toe’s boots in tan from Grant Stone. The C&J were just under $1,200, but I got them on an after Christmas sale from $650. The Grant Stones were just under $400. In both cases I have found that the boot shoe trees from Woodlore keep both of my boots in perfect condition after a wearing. I would recommend them for any boots of any expense as they really do keep them beautiful and they don’t curl up at all. Give it a thought...

Work/ service boots don't generally have finished edges. Dress boots usually do. Casual boots can. It's an oversimplification, but not inaccurate. It doesn't have anything to do with "quality."

On Alden i guess the stiching sitting flush is because it's just stiching the toe box without any actual purpose such as bringing different pieces together, not an actial moc toe? Just saying, not sure though but something to consider
