girl i just love seeing artists doing artsy things, don't feel pressured to always post videos of finished pieces or often, ok? for me it doesn't matter if the video is a sketchbook tour, showing silly sketches, art processes, about ten different types of painting, art vlogs, art shopping, advices, etc etc, I'm already in! all of this is really inspiring for me as someone who struggles with doubts about whether or not i want to be an artist. i love your channel, and other people who also love your content won't mind if you post at your own pace. anyway thanks for all the amazing videos, i'm a beginner with markers and watching you paint with them teaches me a lot! xoxo

Those alcohol markers were a must back in the early days of advertising and design. Just a few colors added to a black and white line drawing would really help the client visualize the final product. The good thing was, that if the client had a brand color, you could just buy that one new marker. The funny thing about commercial art and motivation is that you don't have that luxury of waiting for inspiration. You do developed ways to be creative, almost production line creativity. It wasn't uncommon to be asked to come up with several ideas about five minutes before a client came in for a presentation meeting.

Your comments are always such a joy to read! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. 💛 I think you're spot on about "production line creativity," that is exactly what it feels like sometimes!

That's crazy, I cannot create if I'm not in the mood, which is why I never pursued art as a career, instead I'm in healthcare and doodle all day at work on the phone 😂

It's not as bad as it sounds. At art school you are taught ways to be creative on demand. Mind map for example. Or going to the brief and looking up the origins of the key words in the brief. The joke was, "the answer is always in the question".@@sodaswirls

Yes. the vibe with quiet inspired relaxing spiritual art production is in no way related to the very intellectual product generation process. Each has its own pace and pleasure. I often wonder at the reason for the early cave paintings. were they a religious invocation for the next season, or a practical attempt to stop the family complaining about how dingy the living room wall looked.@@emhuesart

Thank you for your inspirational video. It makes me want to grab my markers and pencils immediately. Emily, I don’t want to scare you. But as I am stuck in the Long Covid hole for years now - please don’t overdo it right now. Give yourself time to heal, even though that’s a hard thing to do, especially when you run your own business. Take the time your body needs (and tells you !)

Yes, I want to use every medium. I got to where I was really comfortable with my watercolor and instead of staying with watercolor I’m now using gouache. I got golden open acrylics and oils. I also use pastels, markers and colored pencils. I absolutely understand what you’re saying. Art is my therapy after losing my son. I just want to make good art and learned not to compare myself with others, bcuz then art isn’t fun, it’s stressful. There’s always going to be someone better, but I don’t care. I’m an art nerd too. I have so many books and have studied art history. Wishing you the best ❤

I have also been in a studying cycle rut for the past year... i feel like i can't make anything until i've studied 'enough' and only once i'm 'good enough' can i even THINK about painting something other than studies.... i hope to soon be a bit more comfortable with the medium so i can start creating things too :)

Yes for oil painting, great idea! Less videos, more time for you to create, great idea ! Will get those brushes as soon as you annonce their availability (will they be exclusively for gouache ?) In the mean time, take care.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Always a pleasure to recieve a comment from you! The brushes I'm designing won't be exclusively for gouache, but I am designing them with gouache in mind. They're going to be synthetic brushes with medium bristle firmness- so they could be used for watercolors (with a less watery approach), acrylics, or even oils. They're also going to have short-medium handles (which I prefer for gouache paintings) 💛

  • @5eonghwas

I would absolutely buy a set of brushes designed by you! I'd even pay international shipping (although I'd cry when I hit the button). And I related to so much of what you said. I'm a proper art nerd and I've been really studying other artists, which has dramatically improved my art, but it also means I desperately want to try gouache, and watercolour, and now markers... 🙃

Voiceovers. Your guidance has helped me so much as I’m a gouache newbie. I’ve found the learning curve to be pretty steep, much more than my experience with watercolors. The gouache was supposed to help me loosen up, so your signature “chunky” strokes of color was what I wanted to explore. However, the ease of your method is deceptive! You are a master, girl!! Please keep showing us your excellent work. You are inspiring as an artist and teacher. Sorry, maybe this was TMI!!

I definitely have the urge to hop right back on my phone when I draw to read or an endless scroll for “inspiration” and then time will pass and I’ll have nothing done 😭 but I’ve been casting art KZread videos or gaming videos on my tv while I work in my sketchbook (I played this video while I sketched hehe) this way I don’t get stuck scrolling for a video to watch and I’ve been throwing my phone in my desk drawer. But the struggle is real. Also happy to hear you are recovering from covid💓✨💗

Love these portraits! I rly like the one where you started with the pink. It pops so much with the light green.. love it! I know exactly what you said about practicing, enjoying all the different medias, .. For me creating art for KZread videos also is different to the art I would paint for bigger paintings, to join exhibitions f.e... . I love creating in my sketchbooks and painting small cute pictures. Playing around with new supplies.. But my goal for this year also is to paint big paintings again. I don't know yet exactly how I will do this, but I will try to make both possible. I would love to watch you painting a bigger oil painting! No matter how long I would have to wait for a new video.. Your videos are always gems here on KZread and I'm always happy about a new one. So please do what feels right and good for you! The inner flow is the magic ✨ And I also wish you a fast recovering from nasty Covid! ❤

Thank you so much! This is a question I get asked a lot. I would love to make a video about it, I just need to figure out the best way to explain/ demonstrate it. I think a lot of it comes down to intuition from years of practicing, so I'll need to focus on my thought process more while I am creating. :)

Wow! I was just struggling with artist “fog” or overload of art inspiration. There’s so many amazing things to do and try that I often feel drowned in it. I want to express things my own unique way but immediately feel intimidated by the unquestionably talented people. I also feel sad that my art probably won’t be found in the sea of art. I often don’t know what to do or how I want to express myself. I hope to find a balance through it but it feels like an endless challenge
