Alcohol Ink birch tree painting on tile by Jewel
This is my first ever youtube video. In this demo you see how I use alcohol ink, blending solution and masking fluid to create a peaceful moonlit landscape on porcelain tile.

I'm speechless... wow! That is absolutely stunning!
I just ran across your video. I just love the tile. A real work of art. Thanks for sharing. Darlene.
Beautiful! Thanks so much for doing this Jewel. You answered so many questions I have had for over a year.
That was beautiful, you make it look so easy. Had some experience with the inks and loved it.
Your first ever?! Wow you're like a pro already at this video thing. A natural teacher. Thank you for sharing your talents!
Thanks for the questions and comments Mary and Marcie. I do not mix my own inks, I pit the larger print labels on so I can find the color I want quicker. The colors are printed so small on the bottles and I am far sighted. The only way to get a feel for the inks is to jump right in and play. If you don't like what you have on the tile, just wash it right off with alcohol and start over. I have been ink painting for almost a year. I learn more as I go.
Beautiful art
beautiful, a whole different use for alcohol inks.
Wow woman!! You are so inspiring! Thank you!
your first? Wow...love this
I can't believe you did that in 9 minutes. It would take me 9 hours but I'm going to give it a try. Thanks. I learned a lot.

Marisa Meier I have done this scene many times in my workshops with a lot of people who said the same, but they surprised themselves. Just give it a try, don't give up if it does not turn out the first time, keep playing.

Marisa Meier I am spraying compressed air, the type used for dusting out electronics. I now use a compressor in studio. The air has 2 purposes, to push the ink and blender around or to set and dry the ink and stop the flow. Learn to control the air and you will control the ink. Spray closer to move it, further back and with less force to set and dry. DO NOT shake the can!! The gases must stay settled for it to work. (Compressor is much safer, I am sure)Good luck!
Very enjoyable to watch. Thanks!
Thank you, Jewel! This video helped with many of my questions regarding working with AI.

I have been dabbling with watercolour, and have enjoyed it, but NOW I think I am in love! to create wildly colourful tiles like that!!! This is the first tutorial I have seen, and I am soo impressed! I only hope the inks and sealers are available in Australia, and not to pricey! look forward to more of your videos!

Riki, I do believe they have inks there. I have chatted with some people in the FB group Alcohol Ink Artists. There are some from Australia that belong to the group. I might be doing another video this summer once I get my vision issues cleared up.
Well done! Thank you!
Well, this is great to see a quality painting done start to finish. I like how it combines abstract and a realistic landscape. and a a Pro Tip - put large labels on all of your ink bottles so you can see them at a glance!
that is FANTASTIC!!
Thanks everyone, if you love the inks and want to learn more.... check out the Facebook group Alcohol Ink Art . A very wonderful group of ink artists, you will learn so much and see lots of amazing ink art!
I love it!

Hello Lin, how’re you doing today?
Fantastic
Beautiful!! Great vid!!
Very pretty
¡Muy bonito! Una gran artista
Wonderful video. As I was looking through the comments I notice people were looking for 4 x 4 tiles. If you have a local Habitat For Humanity Restore Store in your area, try there. I often times find white tiles of all sizes there.

yes, we have that store. A fun place to look for tiles. I like to get the 4 1/4" if I can find it. Works well for mounting on the Ikea mirror frames that I use.
Thank you so much. I really needed to see something good and I did. I love your technique and the simple way you showed us what to do with AI in a directed freestyle painting. I learned more today from your KZread Video than I did from some DVD's I bought recently.......and they were expensive. Your tile is lovely and I would really enjoy seeing more of your work on a Yupo surface. I know that I am not alone when I add....... Encore, encore, encore!

Nice comment
You see me shaking the can rather vigorously at times in the video. Since I did this first video 4 years ago, I have learned that it is not good to shake the can either before or during spraying. Now I go much slower when using the can and for the most part I use my mini compressor which is cheaper in the long run, and avoids the exposure to chemicals in the can.
wow... amazing!
This is so beautiful!
ooooHHHHH, this is such a cool style, I've never heard of it before, but I would definitely like to try it in the future.. love how you did this!
This is beautiful, thanks so much for sharing. It never occurred to me to use compressed air as a tool - I can't wait to try it out!

Thankyou, I use a compressor in studio, but when I teach I use a can to show technique as not all of us have a compressor. When blowing, it is all about the pressure you use. When you use a can, make sure to place your finger at the bottom of the trigger for the best pressure. This is best for moving ink fast. Slight pressure, (move your finger a bit higher) is better for just drying. You can use a hairdryer or you lungs too.
Thanks for sharing - it's beautiful!
