L'Envol
Le soir je m’imagine
Rejoindre en plein vol
La cohorte surnaturelle
D’immenses oiseaux de paradis
Voguant à l’unisson
Sous des voûtes d’eaux placides
Qui ondoient lentement
Dans le tumulte de la nuit
Seul avec mes souvenirs si chers
L’âme enfin vibrante et libérée
Bien loin
Depuis toujours me portant peine
Pour les vestiges
D’un Ailleurs évanescent
Et pour mes rêves éveillés

We had the great pleasure of making this music video with my partner Psyche and my dear friend Cedric. The clip was shot on the night of June 21, the summer solstice, in the Broceliande forest where we live. And by coincidence of the calendar, we finished the animation on the night of December 21, at the winter solstice. Six magical months working on a work from the Other World. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it☀ Thanks to Neige for entrusting us with the creation of this film ⭐

I lost both my parents in the last year but have had a hard time grieving because they were very old and their decline was long and I spent a lot of time caring for them. When I was 9, there was a field of small white flowers on tall stems (daisy fleabane) that was filled with fireflies at twilight in the summer. The fireflies rose from the field as light faded. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. I told my parents about it and I was both happy and proud that they went to the field themselves to see the fireflies. Every time I watch this video I sob uncontrollably when the fireflies rise, because it symbolizes not only a lost time when everybody was healthy and happy but also the departure of something beautiful and fleeting. Like life.

The primary lyrical theme of Alcest is "Nostalgia", and this track embodies that concept to me better than anything since Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde. I assume she's seeing herself in her youth, and I wonder if this is Neige's attempt at putting his "Fairy Land" to images that we can see. Either way, this is profoundly beautiful, and now I can't wait for the full album.

I've been continuously playing it on repeat for over an hour, and with each replay, I discover new elements that bring a smile to my face. I believe the wonderful people here in the comment section can relate to my feelings. This summarizes the essence of Alcest. Thank you Neige and the band for sharing this exquisite piece of art with us. This will help us while patiently waiting for the entire album. ❤

Well said, dude. I'm on my 51st listen since it was released, and it is still giving me the goosebumps, especially during the section between 4:24 and 5:18... That part is, IMO, one of the best bits of music Alcest has ever released. So fuckin' glad they have returned to more complex song structures with these deep, introspective parts. This is the Alcest I fell in love with. There is no other band who can evoke quite the same emotions as Alcest... :)

My updated opinion is that this song is a fucking masterpiece. One of the best songs Alcest has ever written. It is for sure one of the most epic singles I've heard. Thanks so much, Alcest, for bringing back those drawn-out, contemplative sections that I really missed hearing in the previous two albums (which were more basic, I guess). This is the Alcest I fell in love with in 2007.

I've been a fan for 17 years (via the snippets of songs from 'Souvenirs d'un autre monde' on their MySpace before said album was released!), and 'L'envol' has to be up there with some of the best Alcest songs ever made. I wasn't so much into 'Kodama' and 'Spiritual Instinct', as I found them to be a bit too straight and simple for Alcest, but 'L'envol' has brought back the deep, contemplative and otherworldly elements that made me fall in love with the band in the first place. That part between 4:24 and 5:18 is one of the best moments Alcest has ever written, IMO. So, so, so, so happy they are writing music like this again!

Glad I waited until I could listen to this properly with headphones on, and lights dimmed full-screen, to really get immersed in it. Alcest has never disappointed me, of course I have my preferred moments and albums but from the very start it's been something truly special. So glad I was there early on when they started to tour and I got to see them at a small venue, and as an added bonus Neige was so incredibly sweet and humble hanging out outside the venue afterwards talking to everyone. One of the absolute best in my books, then and now

Then I met Danny from Anathema, surprisingly. I'm so sad they disbanded. I hope Danny gets better. Along with Alcest, The Gathering, and Devin Townsend, his music has been part of the soundtrack of my life. Much love to you all.

After a few listens to L'Envol, I feel like it is about transformation into the spiritual, ending with you soaring above this world into a new realm. I love the allusions to bird sounds throughout. I hear influences from Souvenirs with production from Kodama, but the track heads into a new textured sonic space. The drums are fantastic and dynamic, giving this song a living, breathing pulse. I can't wait to hear the full album. I feel like it will be special and I'm grateful this music exists.
