Albrecht Dürer's influence | National Gallery
Even if you don't know the name, chances are you've seen a reproduction of one of his prints. What is it about his work that has made it last?
Through paintings, drawings, prints, and letters, our exhibition 'Dürer's Journeys: Travels of a Renaissance Artist' brings to life this art history megastar and the people and places he visited.

Once again a perfect presentation from the National Gallery. Interesting, informative, entertaining; I look forward to every new offering. Keep them coming!
Durer is....there are no words. I found myself holding my breath throughout the video.
This video is so rich. Even greater the second time around, and I’ll no doubt see it again. This man was a genius, but also so deeply human and respectful of others. WAY before his time. 🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏾😊❤️❤️
Fantastic! Thank you.
I've had the pleasure of seing the "Saint Jerome" painting, which is in Lisbon's Museum (at 2:16 min), and it is really one of Durer's best and most touching works Ever! Thank you for this video!
Really great interesting video about this amazing artist.
Incredibly compelling artist!
My wife passed in 2020 and her headstone has the hands in prayer.. She loved art
I love this series so so much. Thank you
Very interesting. Thanks for posting
Fabulous thank you. I really enjoyed this piece. Love and peace. Tim
Great video. Like John Akomfrah says in the beginning, I didn’t realize how many of Dürer’s prints I was already unconsciously aware of.
beautiful
I just love seeing video essays that show how the works of previous artists have influenced new ones over the centuries. It really highlights how important it is to learn about art history. I would very much appreciate more videos constructed around themes like that.
I am very familiar with this Painting by Saint Jerome, which is at the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga in Lisbon, which was donated by Durer to a Portuguese merchant who was coordinator of a factory in Antwerp. It is a magnificent painting. Each of your videos is amazing, and particularly inspiring. thanks for a good level of information
Allegory is wonderfully depicted n many of his images, especially the one with the seated and tested angel. Wonderful works of perseverance in love of expression through art. 😎
HE'S SO BRILLIANT , HE CAN MAKE YOU SHOOT JUST BY LOOKING AT HIS WORK ! MERRY 🎄 CHRISTMAS
The painting of Saint Jerome just blew my mind off.
I hear that Felicity Fox's paintings in Fantastic Mr fox were inspired by Albrecht Durer. 😊
He is a "divine god" imo, too. Love his art.
Durer presents a bottomless wellspring of imagination, complexity, artistic beauty, and unequaled unique draftsmanship. Many artists have borrowed from him, but typically create little of new value. I found the immense woodcut by Grayson Perry shown here, which is entirely derived from Durer, to be most unpleasant to behold. It fails on so many levels that one hardly knows where to begin the long list of failures. Aside from its complete lack of draftsmanship ability, perhaps most disturbing is the gigantic personal ego of the artist Perry to not only seek to somehow equate himself with Durer, but to shove it in our faces by its immense size. A truly great artist like Durer never minded working in a small format.
Beautiful art. But a bit of a stretch to say that all those prayer hands featured were inspired by Dürer.
2:32 it's kind of putting words in Dürer's mouth, how would you know what he was thinking? Maybe he loved drawing old people
Leonardo is 1st Albrecht is No2 🤗
Projection by these people on the artist.
