Alberto Mielgo - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Storyboards

Фильм және анимация

Couldn't find a high quality upload of this on KZread, and to watch the original on Vimeo you have to log in. Nevertheless, I wanted to preserve this video here as well.
Original here: vimeo.com/311716775
Vimeo description:
"As I mentioned before, I was hired to direct the animation test for the new Spiderman film.
Here you can see my original storyboards and animatics that I produced for such a test. My main intention was to explore the language of comics and cinema and merge them together. We finished only 4 of this shots. And everyone ended up pretty exhausted!!!
The shots that we produced with an incredible technical team were some of the most amazing thing Ive seen, and Im extremely proud of them and the team involved. With those shots we open a door to a pipeline and possibilities and help to estimate the overall film.
I hope Sony will allow me to share the finished shots some time in the future .
Im really happy to see that most of my shots on this early boards made it to the final film. Again I would like to congratulate the whole team that finished the final film for preserving the compositions and the original intention of these shots. It shows that everyone felt inspired and that they really cared for this particular vision.
As you can see the 3 versions are very different in tone. It was early and I was not too sure yet what would be the final mood of this film yet.
I work with pencil, photoshop, I do the comp in After FX and my edits in Premiere, with my own sounds and all bunch of crap in Audition... Did I ever say how much I love adobe?
Music on this obviously temp score just for the edit.
My pick temp track artist:
v1: SON LUX
v2: LEFTFIELD
v3: MAXIMONO"
Here's the project on Alberto's website, with more images and him explaining the early development of the movie, also the circumstances of him being fired: www.albertomielgo.com/spiderman

Why I really like Alberto Mielgo work,is that he makes his characters, real as if you can know their hesitation and intent in their action the way his characters act in such a flawed fluidity like is just so good

i'm so glad we didn't see the collider melt peter parker on screen... that visual is absolutely terrifying and sets such a different mood for the movie.

Actually if you watch the full video you realize the plan was to make the green goblin kill him like in the actual comic book, that was just a test or an alternative idea, Check until the very end where the full piece of animation gets shown

while i adore the movie that we got, this is just so splendid. i hope mielgo gets a chance to do his own spider-punk movie in the future. or even just a 20 minute short. he and robert valley truly have reshaped the way people animate.

2:45 what intrigues me is how he gets this anamorphic effect without using 3d software. Look at the lines of the building edge and how it warps as if it really was shot through a camera lens, it's incredible how he does that in Aftereffects.

I knew I wasn't just imagining remembering it. Not sure when the original video got taken down but man thanks a tonne for reuploading it. Mielgo is an inspiration and truly brilliant in every aspect of his craft. These storyboards are just absolutely incredible and I can't help but lament the fact that they weren't used in the movie in their entirety, despite the movie otherwise being great as well.

Unfortunately I didn't even know about those things up until I've read your comment. There's some footage on Reddit/Twitter I couldn't find the source of, which seemed to be nearly finished renders of the scene where Peter B Parker stands in front of the mirror. This footage is also included in the movie for split seconds, if you pause it at the right moment you can see it.

@@goatproductions6435 Thanks for those suggestions! I will def look into them. I saw "The mind electric" music animation video by lonely man's and that is also in 3D software but with blender. Its interesting to see what software professionals/ industry use tho. I didn't acc know it was that common to animate in 3d software tbf tho it makes sense, esp with those crazy camera angles you get and the high action and the backgrounds. Really mad stuff. I gotta learn it man!

I totally would start off with Blender first then Maya. However that is optional. 3d animation is a bit tricky at times, however you will be able to get the hang of it. Practice makes perfect!
