Goddamn legend. "Or am I mis-taken on my ham and bacon?" my mother used to tease my sister in a sing-song voice. My sister hated it. I'm not sure why this comment in particular infuritated her, but probably has something to do with society's gib response to bacon-related criminal violence.

I have several relatives in the area around that prison, sometimes referred to as Cedar Junction. DeSalvo was one of the inmates who made things in the shop for sale to the public. One Christmas, my brother thought it would be a neat joke to buy our mother a necklace made by "The Boston Strangler." It wasn't a choker, but it did have a card with the autograph made by Albert DeSalvo. This is all true, and I respectfully request Dr. Grande to comment on my Brother's possible state of mind for coming up with such a jest.

@@dianeellis3925 In Titicut? I don't remember his being held there, but that would make sense. I know that Cedar Junction [a.k.a. Norfolk, a.k.a. Walpole] had a shop and I thought my brother had bought it there because he lived in the town nearby, but I doubt he'd remember if I asked. Do you remember if they were really "chokers" and whether he put "The Boston Strangler" under his name on the card? For your amusement, I got a lot of laughter if I wasn't careful about telling people about my educational history, "I graduated from Walpole before going to Bridgewater!" BSC is now BSU, fancy that!

Jay McJakome hi Jay. You’re right. It WAS Walpole. I think that he did sign his name. There’s pictures of him dancing with these older women and everybody’s smiling like it was a Saturday night dance. I went to Northeastern for a year. I understand what you’re saying about BSU. Are you still around Boston? I actually live and grew up in Nashua. Finally landed up at UNH Manchester. Those were the days though. Boston in the 60’s. Lol

My dog has committed bacon-related offenses.

Just yesterday I was thinking of suggesting you analyze the Boston Strangler case and couldn’t believe it when I saw today that you did! Great job. I read somewhere that not only did the police think that there was more than one killer due to the age range of victims and the variations in how they were killed, but also similar murders continued for a time after DeSalvo was incarcerated... maybe a copy cat or maybe he wasn’t the Strangler after all...

If we're going to discuss possible pork-related motives, we must remember that there was no scrawled message, "stop me before I grill again," which seems to weaken that argument. Seriously, after everything I've read over the years, I can't help thinking that DeSalvo was not THE Boston Strangler, if in fact there was only one. The only DNA evidence linked him to the killing of Mary Sullivan, who was believed to be the last Strangler victim, so if guilty, perhaps he was copy-catting, All in all, the Boston Strangler case will probably be a basis for lively discussion for decades to come. On a more serious note, a poster on another board I patronize said he grew up in Germany with Albert DeSalvo's kids. It was well known that his wife divorced him after he was charged with being the Boston Strangler, and relocated back to her native Germany with the kids. (They had met when he was stationed there in the Army.) The kids were preschoolers, and were told that their father had died in a car accident, and only found out the truth as young adults. Of course, they were completely traumatized.
