Moving to Alaska was a 75th birthday present to my husband Frank lol. It was his dream for over 40 years. So I can surly say dreams can come true!! We sold our house in 3 days had 2 weeks to get out. We hired a moving co to pack us up and they even packed our trash. Lol and No home to go to. I went on line and found 3 but 2 were sold before we could get it so we ended up in Soldotna and we are so happy we got the best home and the best view. We have been here 6 years now and love everything about Alaska. Your friend Judy from Soldotna Alaska

My youngest daughter gets hives in the cold as well. I didn’t know the name for it though. We really do have so much in common. We are also a Dave Ramsey family. Cash is king! We have been married 22 years and we both agreed that I would be a stay at home mom, I never wanted to be nothing else. I was a latch key kid and I didn’t want that for my kids. We just made a lot of sacrifices over the years to be a single income family. My husband is like Aaron, working at work, or working at home, he isn’t a sitter. 😂

I love how when you explain how you both were able to afford this dream. Mum did the Mum things, Dad did the Dad things. Rolled it all up for years and years, valueing each others worth to the partnership. You're both blessed that you found each other. Even while you explain it, there's Dad stacking firewood. Not to take away from Mum's work, but just a perfect example of why you 2 work well together. Fire cooks food, keeps warmth. Dad make wood for fire. Mum grow's garden. harvest garden, make food. Fish together. Hunt together. Family Happy. Be blessed.

The kitchen you are describing was something my ancestors (french from Montréal Québec) were simply called a summer kitchen. You need that kind of kitchen when you cook with wood stoves. It was done at the beginning of the colony and people kept using them until the electric stove were used by the majority

Oh wow, thank you for the great QandA. I have a dishwasher but haven't used it in 10 years. It's just a wasted space in my kitchen now because I was washing my dishes before putting them in, then feeling like they came out dirty so often washing again. And, just like you said, now that I no longer use it I almost never have dirty dishes. I also loved Julia and Martha and all I ever really wanted was to be a wife and mother, which is why I feel my life has been wasted and grief that I never had a family because i was so busy working and traveling for work in my 20s and early 30s that it never happened. I stupidly didn't even realize I was running out of time until it was too late. And a lot of that was from people, especially my mother, pushing me to work and not focus on personal relationships. That's what she thought she wished she had done instead of having a family, but I can almost guarantee she wouldn't have been happy to wind up all alone in life like I have. I should have been smarter and made a plan and not run out of time, that's on me. Ir was my responsibility to figure out what I needed in my life and I didn't do that, I just kept plugging along, trying to make it from one business trip to the next, without being introspective about what is truly important. I feel like I should be making PSAs for young women 😀 basically saying don't be like me, don't put off the important things because time goes by far faster than you realize.

I’m seriously crying. I know what that like it I had a taste! When I found out # 4 was on the way I thought I would never be anything of value in life because now we could never afford fir me to “become something” I am so beyond heart broken you didn’t get to have the experience! Thank you for sharing, I’ll share this with my daughter snd her friends. I always tell them it’s ok to be a woman, a wife a mother it’s the greatest job in the world. Snd I waisted so many years being in greatful and resenting my choices. I would just kill to have those years they were little back and realize it was all a lie. I was the most important person in my kids world in the early years and didn’t treat it as such. I’m so sorry! Thank you though for trusting me with your story.

I’m so sorry you have endured so much pain. Thank you for saying something now. You should be making PSA’s! I really do pray that our society would stop denigrating and diminishing the roles that women play in the lives of our husbands, children and society as well as the importance of men’s roles. True feminism is embracing what God made us women for and being proudly feminine. I pray you find peace and joy in life regardless of your decisions. You still have so much to offer and could be a mentor to young women. God bless you and keep you!

Love being outdoors me and my dog hike whenever possible. Love your attitude on being a mom and wife. Two things I wanted when I bought my house was a fireplace and close to town. Awesome video! I am so happy that you spoke about being a stay at home Momma and wife! It is honorable and actually quite courageous to trust God to provide for your family and choose your family first. It is the most important places to be as a Mom and a wife to me. The world needs more strong women speaking out about staying home and what a wonderful and fulfilling place it is to be. I wish more women would listen to their inner voice (God 😉) and be proud to choose to be home. Love all the things you said about protecting your children and letting them choose what to put in the videos. Great job on your homestead! You and your family are impressive! But I am taking on board a lot of your advice and adapting them to our life style here in the UK. I have a dishwasher for the first time in a decade and I love it. I just put everything in and when it's full I turn it on. It's energy efficient and water saving. The dry cycle has a sterilization option that I do use. Lol. 5 or 6 years ago I would have agreed with you about dishwashers, now my hands have gotten so bad it is literally my only option now. If not for my hands I would totally still wash my dishes by hand. Lol

Great Q&A. You have given alot of great advice. I'll have to check into different programs about PCA (personal care assistant)work. Bcuz I work with my son whose on the spectrum. I'm not ready to put him in a group home. And he wouldn't understand why mom left him behind somewhere. So if our family moved he'd have to come with. Everyone would be ok with the move. Then I'd have to check into the SSI. Bcuz he'll always have it as income, no matter what. As for buying property there, I have made friends with a couple who just bought a 20 acre property for $11,000. I wish I could find something like that. Would be ideal. They're farther inland, closer to Fairbanks. They travel back and forth from Michigan to Alaska every year. They haven't decided where'd they'd like to live more so they have a home in Michigan and are going to build a little place in Alaska. I sure envy them. And now I envy you guys. So excited to see how your living life there. I'm sure enjoying watching your vids.

I think it has to do with our social media culture -- there are some that think that just because someone is on social media (or even in the public eye as a news person, actor, etc) they give up all their rights to privacy. And even think that because a person is on social media, the rest of the family needs to be ! Lack of respect for privacy -- and asking what someone makes for a living is down right rude!

So piling wood in northern Maine but we would do is for the first row we would put the wood perpendicular like making an equal sign and then we would put the wood perpendicular to that and make a roll and then at the end of the row make it equal sign. Then we would just put the wood on the next row and make like a tic tac toe meaning going the opposite way and making it look like a bunch of ones. I hope that makes sense and then the next row we would make an equal sign and then go perpendicular all the way down and make another equal sign that just made it more stable on the ends to hold the rose I'm always about working smart enough harder. Why not fill a wheelbarrow up and dump it and then go fill a wheelbarrow up again while your son piles the wood?

Eh, interesting video, but I totally disagree with you about the dishwasher. I personally NEVER pre-wash the dishes, It isn't at all necessary if you have a decent dishwasher. I scrape the chunks off and put them in the dishwasher. I know I am a weirdo. Also, new dishwashers are very efficient with power and water. You use MORE water, and the electricity to heat it, standing at the sink running water to wash dishes yourself. And for me personally, I NEVER have a sink full of dirty dishes, or counters full of dirty dishes. I actually keep up with loading, running, and unloading the dishwasher (we also raised 4 kids, only 1 is still at home with us). But I know I am an oddball, I also never, EVER have piles of clothes, either clean or dirty, laying around. I have a laundry system of dirty baskets in each bathroom, something always in the washer and dryer, clean baskets for each person, hanging clothes are hung straight out of the dryer, etc. I like your idea about the toaster though, I agree it is always a mess :)

I love all h enameled cast iron. It’s such a funny question because ours honestly making me think hard. Yes lacreset is better. It does have and you can see a thicker enamel. And my lodge pan if you wash it snd turn it on my sink it leaves a rust mark. The two red ones I use the most are the perfect size for everyday I think. I want s round one the same size as my oval one…….. but if all I had ever had was the lodge I would of honestly been very happy and not known it could be slightly better. The lodge does stain worse too. But I don’t care because I use it almost daily.
