We came across some dinosaur tracks last summer in Wyoming at Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite by Greybull, WY. That was one of the coolest things that I have seen. To think you were standing where dinosaurs once walked millions and millions of years ago is mind blowing. Great video. Thanks for sharing!

a few miles before leaving the yukon you will come to yukon discovery campground a stop you should not miss. my favorite stop of our trip, 3 years ago. it will be on the left side of the hywy appoximatly 20 plus miles before beaver creek, yukon

i’m watching this in quarantine and it feels like i’m traveling while stuck at home!

We called it the Wacky Bennett Dam back in the 70’s (with your new knowledge about the conflict, you can guess why Premier Bennett & “his dam” was called “Wacky”). I went with my family on the tour back in the early 70’s so cool to ‘see it again’. Glad you tour the detour, it is so worth it. They didn’t remove the trees before flooding the area either. Hope the do with the new one...makes the new lake useable. Again I love watching where I had been...sorta my ‘backyard’ as I grew up in Prince George. My sister & bro-in-law have done a lot of naturalist work in that area for corporations & government. After this area I’ll be watching new areas I’ve only vicariously visited...thanks for the well made videos!

Ha! I can understand that, We didnt put the thing in about the trees, but had heard about it before when we visited the hungry horse dam in Montana. It was being built near the same time and they were leaving the trees, until they heard of what happened at WAC, lol

Great video. We drove from Texas to Alaska back in 2000. It was an incredible adventure we will never forget. The Lance is a great choice for this journey.

So interesting what fun things you can find in small out of the way places. We enjoy following your journey.

That area is one of my favorite parts of the drive. Though I initially saw it as a way to go from the Alaska Hwy to Prince George avoiding Dawson Creek. Great video....

Just found yall's youtube channel and started watching on the Go North series. I am on EP - 7 and binge watching. Yall's video style is entertaining, informative and very fluid. Excellent job ! I am a fledging youtube videographer and I understand the effort/time it takes to capture drive by scenes for just 4 seconds of video or landmark signs to show locations or food shots when your hungry and just want to eat. Your videos make me want to get out and travel. Looking forward to the rest of the Go North series.

Excellent detour. The first section of the Alcan is not that scenic - agricultural and rolling hills. The best is further north as you found out.

Yeah! Another great video and you know we loved watching you go through our old stompin grounds! Once again you are showing us and teaching us things that we did not know. I (Denise) have never been to Tumbler Ridge. We totally get the feeling of good and bad when it comes to the dams. Clean energy to support our future economy but at such a price to the land. It's a no win situation. We are so excited though that you got to see some great animals, wonderful aren't they? Hope you enjoyed Ft Nelson and we know what's coming next and can't wait to see it from your perspective. Thanks for sharing guys.

Cool! I lived in Hudson’s Hope for a year while my dad was working for BC Hydro on the dam. Round elementary school as I recall... Site C is a boondoggle, adding capacity to the system that is not needed, so that we can sell power to the Americans for less than it costs to generate it. The BC Hydro managers will get nice promotions for managing it, though, and we rate-payers will pay extra for a generation. Enjoy your trip, and stop at Liard Springs!

Canada is gorgeous and I enjoy your perspective travels. With regards to the comment on "progress" I concern myself with the natural habitat of animals that live in the region and wonder if they're going to try and accommodate them before they let the waters flood and possibly wipe out some of their habitats. Logically when you think of it it's less the price of progress and more the price of population. Safe journeys.

Tumbler Ridge also has a very good golf course and well maintained, I have been there.

I am following your Northern Quest with a LOT of interest. Not the least of which is your adaptation to a significantly smaller living space. IF possible, I would love to hear more about the workings of, and working with your RV systems. WHEN you get a moment, that is... Laugh out Loud. For What It's Worth, Caitlin's perspective on the radically different "sides" of the dam project perfectly encapsulated MANY of the deeply divisive discussions being held in Canada - TMX, pipelines in general, and not the least our National need for a cohesive approach to the coming scourge of climate change. To be candid, this Canuck does not expect that kind of reasoned perspective from my own countrymen, let alone honoured visitors from the Excited Stakes. MANY thanks...

Hoping to hear more about your experience doing this road trip with the Lance camper and Ford truck and how your experience with such a large cab over camper as the Lance is. We have been thinking about buying an RV and naturally the debate goes on whether to get a camper (what size??) or a travel trailer or 5th wheel.....etc etc........I am sure you know how this "endless" conversation goes......your feedback is looked forward to, no doubt it is coming!! Thanks :) We will cover bits and pieces in the series, but at some point we do intend to do more sharing of these ideas in separate videos or on our blog!

Dams have created a shortage of sand, sand for beaches and sand for cement. Now most people would say there is no shortage of sand. Look at deserts. But the sand in the dessert is wind blow and you can not build with wind blown sand. I say wind turbines is the way to go.

Listened to a podcast recently about the impact of dams (Outside or maybe REI Wild Ideas), so I totally get the "price of progress."

mmm yes, in our travles we have heard and even seen both sides. So much is lost to a dam for sure.

We always stop at visitor centers to find about local thinks.

Grest videos. Just watched the video on touring the truck, July 3rd 2017. Noticed the diff cover. Would be wise to reinstall the OEM cover with the proper level. Watch Gale Banks engineering on diff covers. Have been a auto tech for many years. Have a great time in Alaska.

Is your journey taking you over the top of the world hwy? The raft across the Yukon River at Dawson City is amazing as is the drive to Chicken. The border crossing YT to Alaska is like being on the moon. Have safe travels and FUN!!

That’s it. I’m buying an F950 dual diesel engines with a 300 gallon fuel tank and a 15,000 pound truck bed camper. Wait. Them old boys do all that with just a chain saw?!

Also forgot to add, in another 1000 miles. Keep an eye out for permafrost melt dips in the road. They can drop the entire rig 2 feet at a shot, just beating on the suspension. Springs going to the bottom out bushings. They last anywhere from 60 feet to a mile. Don’t hit them fast.. you have stock Ford springs that will be toast by the time you return. Just an example, my E350 is 13 springs thick in the pack now. If you hit them hard it might blow out the air suspension. Good thing this Ford is a lease, you don’t-want this truck after your done.

I’m not sure if you noticed where you boondocked north of Revelstoke the road under the water. It really surprised and saddened me when I realized that it was a result of the dam. I understand your angst.

Hey Karen! So nice to meet you! Just saw this after two days on top of the world.

What a difference 14 years makes in connectivity. I had a direct way 4000 satellite internet. That I had to get up on a south facing slope to pick up the birds over Texas, had to nearly point into the ground. Wash-Board roads are coming... More buses to come too, all green. Imagine putting an Eaton positraction carrier in a duly? It is available, but not ordered much. Then chain up..Could ford rivers. Your picking up places I blew right past.. much better tech than I had. .. but let’s see how you get past Wash-Board, 100’s of miles. Good luck Ford LED’s.

I’ve noticed the wheel chocks that you use for the front wheels, what kind are they and I assume you like them but why that design? I’ve also been wondering what the black pieces are at the base of the windshield (on the outside). Sorry for the questions, my wife and I are looking at buying a truck bed camper and want to do the kind of things you’ve done on this trip. We currently have a fifth wheel that we use but it’s too big for the trips we’d really like to take now.

:) we thought about that :) we can actually shoot in 6k at 30fps :) .. had a guard with us tho and i figured hearing the camera snap would be good :)

About the dam , 20 tears ago , those ppl that r forst to move sold there land to bchydro years ago. And was aloud to live there until they lold them they had to leave.

Its been averaging around 10-11mpg. although the truck does not do much better empty, maybe 14-15. I bet it depends on the truck alot since we get better mileage towing our fifth wheel that weighs more than twice as much with our truck.

Lance camper look the best on a Ford but still too much space between the cab & cab over.

What is “progress”? Thank you for attempting to address the dam building controversy with care. Perhaps we need to redefine “progress” to include the preservation of natural habitats a focus on better stewardship of our planet as the path to a better future. Thanks. A

The Dams are really interesting and I get they need more power for a growing city. Just not sure why they don’t build nuclear power stations, its safe,, clean and you don’t need to flood an entire valley.

Nuclear power plant opened in Georgia. more efficient design. Better way to increase power capacity instead of using Dams. Finland brought nuclear power plant online in April 2023 due to not able to use Russia energy anymore due to Ukraine war

Hi Tom & Caitlin, Enjoy all your work. I'm started on my Tesla build, a few snags... Dams: There is a lot going on here in California. The Oroville Dam, along with many Dams in California & Southern Oregon, as I understand, are slated for removal. Oroville Dam, if it is overflowed with water, will be a complete destruction, and is said to cause many deaths and flooding. There is talk, fact or propaganda, that the reservoirs made by dams cause seismic activity. A controversial topic is the apparent high tech deliberate cause of many of the fires in California. It is said the Dams are deliberately being neglected, not maintained. Interesting that we are hearing that Dams must be removed, while British Columbia is going forward with new Dams. There is a discussion of evidence of a forced depopulation of California, and all of the coast. I will stop there & leave further disputed facts for another forum.

Take all the damn dam pictures that you want but you are not to take any damn dam videos of the damn dam. HA HA

My wife and I enjoy your videos up to the point of you basically saying, there are good people on both sides of the environmental devastation of the Alaskan wilderness. Alaska is under environmental attack by the big oil and gas companies, strip mining, oil drilling, gas drilling, and that environmentaly devastating dam. You showed it in this video and only mentioned what you were seeing. You show renewable energy, wind turbines and solar on the roof of your Lance sponsored vehicle, but never mentioned your thoughts on renewable energy. Sadly, I guess it's easy for you guys to stay neutral on environmental devastation when sponsored adventures and corporate sponsorship money is flowing your way!
