You guys should look up the reasons why she sang this song; Billie Joe Armstrong was supposed to perform on that very day, but he couldn't because he was going through a difficult situation regarding drugs and/oir depression, and that was her way to acknowledge him, to pay tribute to him and tell him she was there for support. And you have no idea of how thankful he was when he knew about this, so, this is an artists thing. And apparently you guys do not understand art in its different forms of expressions. No matter what version it goes, it is an awesome song, and Alanis just showed 1 more time how big she is as a spirit.

Green Day were supposed to play that night but the evening before Billie had the Las Vegas meltdown so she was asked to step in. She didn't have to sing this, she could have sung her own song to promote herself but no she did this out of respect. I think it's a nice interpretation of this song and I am a massive Green Day fan.

Everyone's talking saying this cover is bad because it doesn't sound like Green Day but I disagree. Green Day sings Basket Case in a very humorous way but if you listen to the lyrics, they're actually quite sad. They describe a man tormented by mental illness. Alanis' performance really brings that across, and it's all the more touching considering what Billie Joe was going through at the time

I love this version. BJ Armstrong wrote this about his own anxiety disorder and wrote a punkie version, which is fine. Anyone who suffers from anxiety knows that this is a fitting interpretation of the song.

Everybody can do cover version, but not anybody can do it well.This is great cover.

There are so many great things about this cover. First, the reason why she did it. Second, how she made it her own, a last but not least how she made us pay attention to the lyrics in a very deep and sad way. It's just heartbreaking.

Not even an Alanis Morissette Fan but damn, that was a good cover. And this is what a cover is all about - your own damn style, not emulating.

Great cover, beautiful voice, and put her spin on it. She wasn't trying to do better than Billy Jo, just pay tribute to him while he was in a bad place. I think that deserves many many thumbs up. Green Day + Alanis = PERFECTION

It's about an anxiety/panic disorder. The song is very fitting. Not only because BJ has several. But as someone with them, it's exactly how it is.

Stunning version of a fab song - and she gets quite emotional at the “Grasping to control” piece - and, frankly, so did I.

Perfection. This is exactly what you do when you cover a song. You make it your own version the original has already been done. This was brilliant for Billie Joe not being able to be there.

First of all the great practice second of all day enjoy that so much that they (the artist) want to replicate it. It's supposed to be a huge compliment to the previous artist. I think Alanis did that song justice. She put a new emotion into the song. Billy's version is loud action packed, Alanis version is quiet and depressing.
